Questions/Concerns to be answered a) Please be sure to share updates to the overall classes in IT that are still tested via proficiency. I know some of the courses in the IT pathway are C-tag only now. Or are there any classes that are both? b) Update of contacts in the Tech Prep office. c) Any other updates, scholarship, Accuplacer testing, Tech Prep... d) I am now doing PLTW courses, is there anything we need to know in connection to Sinclair with this pathway? e) I am looking at adding proficiency testing for HTML/CSS, and possibly database management. Is there a way to get a general idea of what the proficiency test is like? For example, the CIS 1111 is 50 questions multiple choice, and a project. Can you tell me if the proficiency tests for DBMS and HTML/CSS are the same way? f) Also, is there a scope & sequence, or detailed syllabus of the systems Analysis & Design class? We have a high school level course setup by the state that is called that, and I'm curious to see if the high school course is similar to the college course.

Minutes from IT Tech Prep Summit Friday, 4-17-2015, 8AM to 11AM Sinclair Community College Attendees: Dr. Sue Merrell Daley, Bob Sherman, Patty Santoianni, Eric Renegar, Jacqueline Housel, Sinclair CC; Wendell Meyers, Bryan Jackson, MVTPC; Eric Sphahr, Stebbins HS; Ted Gladeau, Miamisburg HS; Richard Kayser, Greene County CC; Tom Thompson, Kettering Fairmont HS; James Miller, Centerville HS; Amy Sugden, Miami Valley CTC; Jennifer Conard, Springboro HS Dr. Sue Merrell Daley greeted the attendees, and attendees introduced themselves. Enrollment statistics were shared with a graph showing 20% increase in Tech Prep 9-12, with over 13,000 Students in over 60 high schools, indicating a clear path to success. The MVTPC web site was displayed, highlighting the links under the Resources tab, as well as many updates, including proficiency and articulated class syllabi, and the Tech Prep scholarship crosswalks for each pathway. The Pilot for the Multiple Measures policy was introduced. Under the pilot any tech prep student with a 3.0 is excused from the Accuplacer test for placement into Math 1270 and ENG 101. ACT and SAT benchmark scores guiding placement were also explained. A copy of the letter to parents from the Tech Prep office was included in teacher s packets, and a post card will be sent to each senior student s home. The updated Tech Prep checklist was reviewed, as was the proposed Express Registration suggested dates for Tech Prep Students beginning Wednesday, July 15, to allow for all proficiency data to be entered into the students records prior to registering for Fall classes. Patty Santoianni shared the college s plans for 2016, and shared that she would no longer be the Tech Prep Liaison for the IT department, passing the duties to Eric Renegar. There was much discussion surrounding matching the new ODE Courses with the college s courses to continue receiving proficiency credit for students. CTAG courses also received discussion related to credit availability at local colleges. The new elearn system was introduced, and Sinclair staff reported much progress in shifting content from Angel to elearn. Some issues regarding persistent Angel Shell log in as well as exam problems were shared, and the Sinclair representatives are to look in to, and resolve the issues. Train the Trainer professional development opportunities were requested, as were textbook and other resource lists. James Miller, Centerville HS, shared a web blog he created for local instructors will to utilize to share resources. Bob shared current and/or pending articulation agreements for University Parallel transfers with Wright State and UC. A proposed calendar for 2015-2016 Junior Career Exploration Days was examined, and Wendell Meyers asked for possible conflicts with the proposed date.

Bryan Jackson explained the Tech Prep Scholarship Crosswalk, and the categories color-coding for University Parallel, AAS, and certificate programs. Tim Bryant demoed logging in to the new elearn system, and stressed the importance of utilizing the training lessons available on the site, as well as the importance of performing a dry run prior to actually needing to utilize the new system. Centerville HS, and Sinclair CC Alumni Matthew J. Worthen gave a meaningful presentation about his journey through the educational system, and how the Tech Prep program in HS and the subsequent program at Sinclair changed his life, and helped him become a successful entrepreneur. Follow-up info: MVTPC is working together with ODE, OBR and Sinclair Community College leadership to clarify CC+ initiative and TP. Tech Prep as we administer it, is not CC+ in that sense that it is articulated credit, not transcripted credit. In CC+, the students are enrolled in the class while attending high school, and receive a grade at that time. In Tech Prep, they are not. They only receive credit for the course: After they graduate When they register for an actual SCC course If/When they request the credit Therefore, our Tech Prep (as currently offered) does not meet the requirements of a 15 or 30 hour pathway. The only way we could meet the requirement is if they actually signed up for the course (like CC+), were assigned a grade (no opting in or out of having the grade count) and paid $40 per credit hour (just like CC+ courses). More information will be coming forward from Sinclair Community College leadership as we move forward with CC+.
