ESBI Carbon Solutions Partnering with Countries to Achieve their Full Carbon Credit Potential

ESB International ESB International (ESBI) is a growing international energy company and one of Europe s leading engineering and consultancy organisations.

ESBI Carbon Solutions Electricity Supply Board (ESB) As Ireland s premier integrated utility in operation since 1927 ESB is the owner, developer and operator of over 4000MW of generation capacity in Ireland, as well as significant capacity overseas. ESB s generating stations include gas-fired conventional and combined cycle, coalfired, oil-fired, peat-fired, as well as wind, biomass and hydro/pumped storage. ESB employs approximately 8,000 employees with revenue totalling 3.5 billion. ESB International (ESBI) ESBI is wholly owned by ESB. We are part of its nonregulated business and operate across a wide area of the energy industry. ESBI invests in, develops, owns, operates and maintains power stations both nationally and internationally and also trades electricity in competitive European energy markets. To date, ESBI has completed projects in over 115 countries. The extensive experience gained in our 80 year history has been the basis for the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and engineering services provided to clients worldwide in the power utility business. Operating in Western Europe, South East Asia, Southern Africa and the Middle East ESBI s major markets are Western Europe (UK and Spain), Southern Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East. As well as our capabilities in the development and management of power generation assets, ESBI also delivers high quality consulting services to clients in the areas of strategic planning, environmental services and sustainability. In 2008, ESB announced a Strategic Framework to 2020, embarking on a 22 billion capital investment programme that will see the company deliver one-third of its electricity from renewable generation, including over 1,400MW of wind as well as wave, tidal and biomass. The strategy will also see the company halve its carbon emissions within 12 years and achieve carbon net-zero by 2035. In order to achieve these aims, ESBI is participating in projects related to the latest energy and carbon technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and solar photovoltaic (PV/Thermal) as well as adding to its renewables portfolio; increasing energy efficiency within its existing portfolio and investing in carbon credit emission reduction projects via ESBI Carbon Solutions. We are pioneers in combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology with a world-renowned reputation for unrivalled engineering excellence. ESBI offers a full range of engineering and O&M solutions as well as consultancy services to the global energy market. Employing approximately 1,200 professional staff between our offices in Ireland and abroad, we have active operations in over 20 countries, including strategic operation and maintenance contracts totalling over 5,500MW. In addition to investments in over 2,300MW of installed capacity and a similar amount in development, ESBI has approximately 300MW of renewable wind energy plant installed and under construction and a further pipeline of 740MW planned for Ireland, UK and Spain.

ESBI Carbon Solutions Project Development and Financing

ESBI Carbon Solutions To asset owners in developing countries, we offer an integrated carbon credit generation service as we operate in each element of the energy value chain. This includes: Equity We can be an equity partner in the project. Carbon We can manage the project through the UNFCCC carbon registration process from PIN to CER issuance. Project Execution We can be a partner in project execution including: pre-feasibility study, feasibility study, engineering design, project management, construction and commissioning. Operations & Maintenance We can provide O&M services. ESB is an EU based compliance buyer of credits/ allowances and we offer, through our strong credit rating, significant reduction in counterparty risk for asset owners. Our skilled team will assess the feasibility of your project under the CDM. Extensive experience in developing a broad portfolio of assets, coupled with 25 plus years as utility engineering consultants, ensures ESBI Carbon Solutions can add value to projects in developing countries.

ESBI Carbon Solutions Offering ESBI Carbon Solutions has an integrated offering which includes carbon and engineering expertise plus equity investment and we are interested in both early and advanced stage projects.

ESBI Carbon Solutions As well as providing equity finance for suitable projects, we can also do the carbon registration process at risk for a percentage share of the carbon credits generated {Carbon Services Agreement (CSA)}. ESBI Carbon Solutions is currently working on CSAs for a number of projects. We will manage the CDM process for each project from start to finish. This process requires extensive supervision to ensure that each project produces the optimum number of CERs. We work with our partners to offer flexible structures around equity financing including arranging forward purchase of CERs. We add value to the project through mobilising business development, financial, carbon and engineering expertise. With regard to project development and investment we focus on activities in the following technologies: Renewables, Energy Efficiency and Methane to Energy. We can also provide the following services: Carbon Footprint Studies Carbon Portfolio Scan Energy Efficiency Audits
