Hong Kong International Institute of Educational Leadership Scholarship Information on the Certificate Programme on Values Education The Certificate Programme comprises three 30-hour courses, viz., VEC 001 - Values Formation VEC 002 - Promoting Good Values in School VEC 003 - Life Skills and Their Applications in Values Education The first course aims at introducing, discussing and reflecting on the philosophical and psychological perspective of young people's values development. Following this, the second course shares practical approaches and strategies for developing and implementing suitable values-based curriculum and activities in schools. The third course, Life Skills and Their Applications in Values Education, focuses on developing life skills and the practical ways of effectively developing these in students. Teaching Strategy Introducing a set of rules or values is not appropriate. The more effective way in values education is to expose learners to different value stances and issues. Through reflection, experiencing, discussion and analysis, learners will be able to develop a more solid foundation of values and the ability to make good judgements when they need to do so. With this belief, more open teaching and learning styles will be adopted in this programme. Participants will be inducted into the field by short lectures, followed by discussions to reflect on their own values and present mode of work. Hands-on activities, simulation and small projects will be used to stimulate thinking and develop practical skills necessary for carrying out good values education. Who Should Attend Teachers, Principals, Administrators, Parents and Youth Workers will find this programme valuable. Attendance and Award The Certificate Programme which is considered as an acceptable training for the nomination for promotion from GM to SGM consists of three courses. Participants who successfully complete all three courses and the project assignment of the whole programme, as well as satisfy the 80% attendance requirement for each course will be awarded Certificate in Values Education offered by the Hong Kong International Institute of Educational Leadership in conjunction with the Lingnan University. Programme Fee The total fee of HK$4,500.00 for the Certificate Programme will be waived for scholarship recipients.
