GRADUATE AND STUDENT PROFILES GRADUATE PROFILES COURTENAY SMITH Executive General Manager Finance, Australia, Project Management & Construction, Bovis Lend Lease Australia (Graduated BAcc 1997) The UTS Bachelor of Accounting program provided me with an excellent stepping stone in to the Corporate world. It gave me a fantastic insight into some of Australia s largest organisations while at the same time allowing me to enjoy being a university student. In addition, and in some ways most importantly, it introduced me to a great group of very talented people, a number of whom are still my closest friends. VINCENT MASTRULLO Executive General Manager Manager, Fixed Income & Currencies Macquarie Group (Graduated BAcc 1994) What was really rewarding for me were the internships: 6 months with two great firms taught me such a lot!! Because of that and what I learnt at uni, I landed a great job with one of the best known investment banks. I really enjoy my job and still meet up with the friends I made at uni. We have formed a great network. SHIHARA ZAFRULLAH Finance Analyst Unilever (Graduated BAcc 2011) A practical degree and a year s work experience at the end of three years, to me was BAcc s biggest selling point. BAcc has exposed me to a network of talented individuals and has provided me with the opportunity to work for two of Australia s premier employers. During my internships, I was able to gain invaluable knowledge about the work environment and the accounting industry. The work training assisted me to develop an understanding of business and to improve those skills that are important in the workplace, putting me in good stead to commence work as a grad. ANITA NICOLE SANCHEZ Consultant Private Clients PricewaterhouseCoopers (Graduated BAcc 2009) Being a part of the UTS Bachelor of Accounting program not only helped me excel in my university studies, but become a part of real teams in some of Australia s biggest companies through my two 6 month internships. Without BAcc, there is no way I could have ever experienced such a wide variety of work within 3 years, let alone achieved a similar level of value-add at the companies I worked for at an undergraduate level. Best of all, the BAcc course introduced me to a fantastic group of people that has developed into great friendships with whom I ve shared fantastic memories from the grounds of UTS, to the corporate lunch scene, and to travelling and studying overseas on international exchange. CHRIS THOMPSON Senior Commercial Manager Strategic Procurement CCA (Graduated BAcc 2005) BAcc provided me with valuable opportunities and set me in good stead for my career at CCA. The internships not only provide good practical work experience but allow you to learn what industry and company would suit you. After my first internship at CCA, I knew this was the place for me. To this day I remain good friends with many BAcc graduates across all different years. Although a fast tracked course, we still enjoyed the uni lifestyle and even had the opportunity to complete the course overseas. Today I am still involved with BAcc as a sponsor and I know CCA is a keen and long-term partner. 4
GRADUATE AND STUDENT PROFILES STUDENT PROFILES AELYA RIZVI (3rd year BAcc) An undergraduate degree and one years work experience in two vastly different corporations, all completed within three years, undoubtedly distinguishes the UTS Bachelor of Accounting Program and its students. From the outset I have been given the opportunity to apply what I learn in the classroom to industry, allowing me to gain practical knowledge and professional development. Moreover, one of the greatest highlights for me during my time in BAcc is the amazing group of peers, and ultimately lifelong friends that I have made, who make university fun and an invaluable experience. DAVID NGO (3rd year BAcc) The Bachelor of Accounting Program has been an incredible experience thus far. Having the opportunity to develop business skills and taste corporate culture, while studying and enjoying university life, is what makes the program so unique, esteemed, and more than just a degree. Best of all, I have a great group of peers who are an amazing source of support and friendship. LACHLAN VINEY (2nd year BAcc) The Bachelor of Accounting Program gives an unrivalled opportunity to combine the benefits of attaining a Business degree whilst also completing a full year of work experience with a number of industry leading companies. The chance to apply the knowledge learnt in the classroom to real world corporate situations allows you to gain critical practical and professional development. The flexibility of the program is also a highlight, with a year of full time study allowing you to immerse yourself in the great university life that UTS offers. Moreover, the friendships gained amongst your classmates are invaluable and make your experience at uni much more manageable and highly enjoyable. LUCY CAVALLARO (2nd year BAcc) The Bachelor of Accounting program has provided me with an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience through two 6-month internships while studying. This has allowed me to realise the diverse facets of accounting and understand its application in today s dynamic business world. The flexibility of the course also allows students to experience everything university life has to offer and explore their particular interests. One of the most rewarding aspects of the program is the close-knit friendships formed within the BAcc cohort, which has made my university experience thoroughly enjoyable. KAYLA LOMAX (2nd year BAcc) The combination of traditional university studies and one year of practical experience makes the Bachelor of Accounting Program challenging and highly rewarding. My first six month internship was integral to developing my accounting skills and career interests through exposure to interesting and varied business matters, comprehensive training and the mentoring I received from industry professionals. In this way, the internship enabled me to apply my university studies to Australian corporate life and has been vital to my professional development. The BAcc program fosters a unique camaraderie between students. This has provided me with an invaluable support network and the opportunity to make lifelong friendships.
