5 0 Environmental Commitment Being only eight kilometres from the Sydney CBD, and located on the shores of one of our most significant waterways - Botany Bay; Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) recognises its responsibility to manage Sydney Airport in a sustainable manner for the benefit of people in Sydney, NSW and Australia. SACL is committed to reducing or eliminating its negative environmental impacts. The signing of the Global Aviation Industry Commitment to Action on Climate Change in April 2008 is an important demonstration of SACL s commitment. SACL s current management practices include reducing Sydney Airport s carbon footprint achieved by technological improvements in areas such as energy efficiency, waste treatment, water management and the like. One recent project is the Sydney Airport water treatment plant located at the southern end of the International Terminal. The water recycling plant takes sewage from the International Terminal and treats it for recycling for toilet flushing and in cooling towers for the air-conditioning systems. The new commercial building, The Central Terrace Building, will use this treated water towards achieving its 5 Green Star rating.
