Graduate Degrees Granted Report Degrees Earned 2013 14 January 2015 The annually reports degrees earned by students attending a Minnesota college or university. This report focuses on graduate degrees earned by sector. Here are key highlights: Total Graduate Degrees Earned In Minnesota, 13,646 doctorate and master s degrees were earned in 2013 14. o Doctorate and master s degrees make up 28% of all degrees (bachelor s or higher) earned from Minnesota institutions (doctorate 6%, master s 22%). (MPCC) member institutions awarded 37% of all graduate degrees in the state. o This is compared to 13% by MnSCU 4 Year institutions and 39% for the Minnesota. Master s Degrees Earned 10,582 master s degrees were earned in 2013 14. MPCC members awarded 42% of master s degrees compared to 33% from the Minnesota and 17% from MnSCU 4 Year institutions. Of master s degrees earned by students of color, 44% earned theirs from MPCC institutions, while 30% were earned from the Minnesota and 14% from MnSCU 4 Year. Of master s degrees earned from MPCC members, 14% were earned by students of color compared to 14% of master s earned from the Minnesota and 11% from MnSCU 4 Year institutions. Doctorate Degrees 3,064 doctorate degrees were earned in Minnesota in 2013 14. o 59% were earned from the Minnesota, 20% from MPCC institutions, 19% from other nonprofits and 1% from MnSCU 4 Year institutions and for profits. o Doctorate degrees include: research (e.g. scholarly degrees such as Ph.D. or Ed.D. requiring advanced work beyond the master s level) and professional practice (e.g. Dentistry, Law and Medicine).
