Chapter1. Network Recorder Overview 1.1. Introduction The Network Recorder is a digital data recording and archiving system solution that receives video, audio and alarm log from network cameras and video servers from multiple sites in real time. 1.2. Features The Network Recorder program does not limit the number of units that can be registered. The program simultaneously records up to 32 video and audio channels. User can map 32 channels from registered units (network cameras and video servers) to 32 virtual channels of the program. Once assigned with video channels, the program runs like a regular DVR. User may configure recording parameters and schedule more flexibly than DVRs. Any sensor or relay can be assigned to any video channel. The program manages remote users and local users independently. Administrator can also assign different rights to users. The program does not limit the number the registered users. The program supports scheduling of recorded data with different parameters by days and hours of the week. Administrator can create normal and alarm recording mode with different rates, resolutions, and recording qualities. Administrator can select any or all events for sensor signal input, motion detection, and video signal loss. The program supports pre- and post-alarm for up to 60 seconds. The program records, searches and transmits data over the network. 1.3. Configuration The Network Recorder package contains the main unit and its components as specified below. When you purchase the unit, please check to ensure the components specified below are included. If any components are missing, please contact your local vendor. 6.4. Connecting NAS (Network Attach Storage) System to PC 6.4.1. ReadyNAS (NETGEAR) Installing RAIDar Utility 1. Load the CD and double-click on Setup_Win.exe file to start the installation. 2. Install RAIDar following the Wizard direction. Detecting ReadyNAS Device 1. Connect ReadyNAS to network and start the system. It takes about 2 minutes to boot up. Note When a PC accesses NAS directly over the crossover cable, PC should be assigned an IP address. ReadyNAS system uses 192.168.168.168 as default IP address. PC should be assigned an IP address on the same network. (192.168.168.xxx but not 192.168.168.168 that is already taken by ReadyNAS). After assigning an IP to PC, open IE Browser and enter https://192.168.168.168/admin 2. Execute RAIDar program by clicking RAIDar icon on the background. RAIDar program detects ReadyNAS system when it is booted and connected to network properly. 3. Select the device and click Browse to access the default share called Backup. The Backup share can be used as a big repository for your data and backups. 4. The ReadyNAS configures itself for anonymous guest access unless specified otherwise. Access to the backup share is granted to anyone but this can be changed in the security setup page of the Setup Wizard. 44

Note If your client has a static IP address, make sure it is on the same IP address subnet as the ReadyNAS device. You can do this by configuring your client to obtain its IP address via DHCP. Even if your network does not have existing DHCP service, the ReadyNAS device will assure that you will get an IP address. For more detailed information, please refer to the manual on the provided CD from Netgear Co. Adding a Network Drive to a PC 1. Click Map Network Drive from My Computer menu. 2. Click Browser button. Then it shows the entire network drives on the LAN. Select an certain drive and click OK button. 3. Click Finish button. 45

6.4.2. Iomega NAS Running Iomega NAS Discovery 1. Connect IomegaNAS device to network 2. Start your computer, wait for the operating system to load, then insert the Solutions CD. NOTE: The client computer must be on the same subnet or network segment as the Iomega NAS. 3. The registration application should open automatically. Register your Iomega NAS system by following the on-screen instructions. When the Solutions CD menu appears, select Iomega NAS Discovery Utility. Select Click to Open to run the software. NOTE: If the software doesn't run automatically, click the CD icon in My Computer, then double click the Start icon. 4. The Iomega NAS Discovery software will list all discovered Iomega NAS servers. NOTE: See Troubleshooting if Iomega NAS Discovery does not find your Iomega NAS. NOTE: By default, the Iomega NAS is set to obtain its IP address from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. Click on the IOMEGANAS-xxxxx name and then the Manage button. If your network has a DHCP server running, the Iomega NAS will obtain its IP address from the DHCP server and launch the NAS management utility. 5. If your network does not have a DHCP server, UNKNOWN will appear in the status column of the Iomega NAS Discovery utility. Click on the Manage button to enter the appropriate IP address and subnet mask. NOTE: Numbers are for example only. Please enter an IP address and subnet mask appropriate for your network 46

6. If you don't know what IP addresses to use, click on the Auto Detect button and the server will search the network for an available address for you. Enter the password, ADMIN (uppercase) is the factory default, and click the APPLY button. Note For more detailed information, please refer to the manual on the provided CD from Iomega Co. Adding a network drive to PC 1. Select a network drive in the Iomega NAS Discovery list and click Map Drive button on the top. 2. Name the drive in Map Network Drive window. 3. Click Finish button. Once added as a network drive, PC can access the drive and write data on it over the network. 47
