MRA Educational Foundation Co-Branded 2015 Scholarship Application Follow our Recipe for a chance to receive up to $5,000, and you can reapply during college! This spring, the MRA Educational Foundation (MRAEF) in partnership with the NRA Educational Foundation (NRAEF) will be awarding scholarships in amounts up to $5,000. Candidates must be ProStart students, high school seniors, college undergraduates or GED credential holders who meet the following criteria. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 1. Acceptance to, or enrollment in, an accredited restaurant or foodservice-related, post-secondary program, either full-time or substantial part-time (minimum 9 credit hours). 2. Must be a Massachusetts resident. 3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.65 on a 4.0 scale, or GED test results of 470 or more. To apply for the MRAEF/NRAEF Co-Branded Scholarships, the following items are required: A Completed Application, which includes an official current school transcript with cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) or GED transcript with test scores. The GPA must be at least 2.65 on a 4.0 scale (GED scores must be 470 or more). You must have Guidance translate GPA to a 4.0 scale, circle GPA, and sign the transcript. Completed required essay question(s). A signed letter of recommendation on letterhead from a current or previous employer which must be dated within the last six months. Unless you are an undergraduate, include a copy of your college acceptance letter. With respect to our Scholarship Committee, we will not be able to accept incomplete, illegible or applications submitted after April 3, 2015. Answer every question and supply every requested document. Mark N/A on a question if it does not apply to you. Applications must be typed. JUDGES WILL SCORE ON THE FOLLOWING: o Presentation of Application (includes spelling, punctuation, legibility and neatness). o Grade point average or GED Score. o Restaurant/Foodservice-related work experience. o Strength of the letter of recommendation. o Response to essay question(s): well-written and within required word count. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION SUBMISSION: Applications will be accepted beginning January 1, 2015 through April 3, 2015. All Applications must be postmarked no later than April 3, 2015. Award recipients will be notified by U.S. mail on or before May 15, 2015. Award winners must maintain a 2.65 GPA while in college to receive the full scholarship. Submission of any materials other than those requested will be discarded. Please include only what has been requested. Please, do not staple or fold the application. Paper clips are acceptable. ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES In addition to the MRAEF/NRAEF co-branded awards, there are $2,000 matching scholarships available to eligible students enrolling at the following institutions: Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, NY, for up to 5 students (freshmen only) Newbury College, Brookline, MA, for up to 3 students (freshmen only) New England Culinary Institute, Montpelier, VT, for up to 5 students (freshmen & undergraduates)

SECTION 5 - ESSAY TOPICS High School Seniors All high school seniors and GED credential holders must complete one essay using the following questions. (Word Count: 300-500 words) Create a metaphor for yourself using something you would find in your kitchen or restaurant. List as many similarities or relationships between yourself and this object as you can think of, then elaborate on this comparison in an essay. Why is this object a good representation of you? Undergraduates Undergraduates must complete the following TWO essay questions. (Word Count: 300-500 words per essay) First experiences can be defining. Cite a first experience that you had that is related to the hospitality or foodservice industry. Explain its impact on you and why. Pick a current issue that affects the restaurant industry. Briefly discuss how the issue affects the industry. Provide specific examples of what you would do to address the issue and try to solve it. SECTION 6 INTERESTS Essay 200-300 words Please answer this question: What area of the restaurant/foodservice industry do you plan on entering after college graduation and what is your ultimate goal in the industry? SECTION 7 HELP US GET TO KNOW YOU Choose two short answer questions (100 words max.) What person in your life most influenced your interest in the foodservice and hospitality field? Explain how that person made a difference and helped to put you on your career path. How has your post-secondary education fine-tuned your career goals? Tell us about your best teacher and why they re the best. SECTION 8 - HONORS AND ACHIEVEMENTS (OPTIONAL) List all honors and achievements. Include honors and achievements during high school and/or college. List academic honors, offices, or leadership positions (date, organization, position) awards you ve won, and other extracurricular activities in which you participated.
