What is the HITT Program? The Tampa Bay Hi-Tech Training (HITT) Program, funded with a $3.8 million grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), provides paid tuition, books and fees for certification training in the Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications fields. The program was created by the USDOL to train IT professionals who have been long-term unemployed so they can upgrade their technical skills.
What is the HITT Program? The Hi-Tech Training (HITT) program is an excellent opportunity to help cover the cost of your training to earn the necessary certifications employers require before hiring. As a career pathway program, the Tampa Bay HITT initiative will build a solid foundation for qualified IT and telecommunications workers to employ across the region.
What is the HITT Program? The USDOL Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the computer service industry occupations in the U.S. are expected to increase 16% percent by the year 2021. The fastest growing occupations will be computer support specialists (14%), systems analysts (20%), computer engineers (32%) and database administrators (20%). Comparatively, IT occupations across Florida and the Tampa Bay Region will grow at a much higher pace over the next 10 years (22% and 20%, respectively). The median hourly wage for the industry in this region was $29.55 in 2011.
What training is available?
Training Providers CareerSource Tampa Bay has partnered with St. Petersburg College and Hillsborough Community College to provide training for non-credit and credit courses. Non-Credit Courses are the courses offered through the Corporate Training Department. Credit Courses are the courses offered through the Academic Program.
St. Petersburg College Corporate Training
St. Petersburg College Corporate Training SPC Corporate Training offers the following noncredit courses that take between 4 to 16 weeks to complete: 1. CompTIA A+ Helpdesk 2. CompTIA Network+ 3. CompTIA Security+ 4. Java Web Programming 5. SharePoint Administrator 6. CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician Please Note: All prospective students must pass the TABE and Suitability Assessments. All programs will begin with a class in Agile Development to fulfill the IT Gap concern.
St. Petersburg College Corporate Training 1. CompTIA A+ Helpdesk Program- The CompTIA A+ certification is the starting point for a career in IT. The exam covers maintenance of PCs, mobile devices, laptops, operating systems and printers. Candidate job roles include technical support specialist, field service technician, IT support technician, IT support administrator, and IT support specialist. 2. CompTIA Network+ Program- The CompTIA Network+ certification is the sign of a qualified networking professional. The exam covers network technologies, installation and configuration, media and topologies, management, and security. Candidate job roles include network administrator, network technician, network installer, help desk technician and IT cable installer. 3. CompTIA Security+ Program- CompTIA Security+ certification designates knowledgeable professionals in the field of security, one of the fastest-growing fields in IT. Candidate job roles include security architect, security engineer, security consultant/specialist, information assurance technician, security administrator, systems administrator, and network administrator.
St. Petersburg College Corporate Training 4. Java Web Programming - In this course, you gain extensive experience writing, compiling and executing Java programs and building robust applications using Java's object-oriented features. 5. SharePoint Administrator - This course will teach you the essential features of SharePoint 2010, and you ll walk away able to install and configure a SharePoint environment, manage authentication, accounts and user roles and operational settings, deploy web applications, site collections and SharePoint solutions, and maintain SharePoint, from backup and restore to performance monitoring and optimization. 6. CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician Program- The CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician certification covers the knowledge and skills required to implement, deploy, and support healthcare IT systems in various clinical settings.
St. Petersburg College Academic Program
St. Petersburg College Academic Program St. Petersburg College will offer the following academic program: CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate- Those who attend the certification course will learn fundamental computer networking concepts and apply them as they configure a LAN/WAN network using Cisco routers and Catalyst switches. This new curriculum includes the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP),Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 ( RIPv2), VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs). Includes four courses. Please Note: Students must meet all SPC admission requirements. All prospective students must pass the TABE and Suitability Assessments.
Hillsborough Community College - Corporate Training
Hillsborough Community College Corporate Training HCC Corporate Training offers the following noncredit courses below that take between five to eight weeks to complete: 1. CompTIA A+ Certification Program 2. CompTIA Security+ Program 3. Querying for SQL Server 2012 4. CompTIA Network+ 5. CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) 6. Java 7SE (OCAJ) Please Note: All prospective students must pass the TABE and Suitability Assessments.
Hillsborough Community College Corporate Training 1. CompTIA A+ Certification Program - This well recognized certification prepares students for an IT career in Technical Support, Customer Service, Helpdesk and Field Service Technician by covering topics such as PC installation and maintenance, hardware configuration and troubleshooting. 2. CompTIA Security+ Program - Prepares students for one of the fastestgrowing fields in IT: security. Topics include security concepts, tools and procedures as well as access control and cryptography. 3. Querying for SQL Server 2012 - Prepares you for Exam 70-461 and provides students with the technical skills required to write basic Transact-SQL queries for Microsoft SQL Server 2012. This course is the foundation for all SQL Serverrelated disciplines; namely, Database Administration, Database Development and Business Intelligence.
Hillsborough Community College Corporate Training 4. CompTIA Network+ - The CompTIA Network+ certification is the sign of a qualified networking professional. The exam covers network technologies, installation and configuration, media and topologies, management, and security. Candidate job roles include network administrator, network technician, network installer, help desk technician, and IT cable installer. 7. CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) - This acclaimed industry certification covers the essentials of networking including LAN/WAN, routers and switches on Cisco based networks. Students are prepared for a career as a network administrator, network engineer and network support specialist among others. 6. Java 7SE (OCAJ) - The Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer certification provides entry into application development or software project management using Java technologies. You will obtain basic knowledge of Object-Oriented Concepts, UML representation of OO concepts, the Java programming language, and general knowledge of Java Platforms and Technologies.
Who is eligible for HITT?
Eligibility Requirements In order to be eligible for the HITT program, you must meet and document the following general eligibility requirements below: You are 18 years or older. You are a Hillsborough or Pinellas County Resident. You have a High School Diploma or GED. You have a current resume (IT employment background is highly preferred). You meet U.S. Citizen requirements or hold a Permanent Alien Resident Card in the U.S. You meet one of the four long-term unemployed USDOL definitions (see next page).
HITT Long Term Unemployed To be eligible for the HITT program you must fall under one of the below USDOL long-term unemployed criteria: You have been without a job for 27 weeks or more and want and are available to work and are able to provide documentation of Unemployment Insurance eligibility. OR You have lost your job during the recent recession (commencing January 1, 2008 forward) and have exhausted unemployment benefits. OR You have not yet reconnected with a job that provides comparable responsibility and pay (underemployment) OR You are working a part-time job(s) when you want a full-time job, or have been discouraged and have stopped looking for a job.
Priority of Service Priority of Service is given to eligible Veterans and spouses of certain Veterans. DD-214 is required for eligibility All eligibility criteria will require supporting documentation as outlined in Federal Guidelines. Funding can only be provided to individuals who meet the eligibility guidelines.

Suitability for Training
Suitability for Training HITT is not an entitlement program. In addition to eligibility, individuals applying for the HITT program must also be found SUITABLE for training to ensure a successful outcome for the student. The goal of the HITT program is to successfully complete training, attain an industry credential and become employed in the IT field.
Suitability for Training Items used in determining suitability for the HITT program include: Current resume (with IT experience highly recommended) Interest in IT career after program completion Interest in gaining IT industry certification College interview by IT Instructor to confirm suitable for IT training College assessment testing to confirm suitable for IT training
Participant Commitment to the HITT Program
Participant Agreement If you are accepted into the program, you will have to accept certain responsibilities to become a CareerSource Tampa Bay HITT participant: The training provided is to assist you to acquire the skills needed to gain meaningful employment. You will be responsible to follow the participant agreement terms during the program.
Participant Commitment to the HITT Program You must be able to commit to at least 20 hours of weekly study time outside of classroom training. You will be expected to attend all classroom training. You will be expected to maintain at least a C. You must maintain contact with the college (SPC or HCC) and CareerSource Tampa Bay. You must attend job assistance appointments.
Participant Obligations While in Training Contact your CareerSource Tampa Bay or CareerSource Pinellas Business Recruiter at least once a month. This may be done through email. If you fail a course, you will not be able to retake the course at no cost. Provide a copy of your IT industry credential after training completion.
Participant Obligations After in Training Once you complete training and begin working: Continue to stay in touch: periodic contacts are required after CareerSource Tampa Bay closes your training case for a period of 12 months by the Federal guidelines for all funds used under this program. Verify employment information and follow-up information on your job status quarterly for 12 months after your case is closed.
Participant Success in the HITT Program FOR YOU TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS, THIS PROGRAM MUST BE CONSIDERED A TOP PRIORITY.
Career Development and Employability Skills
CareerSource Tampa Bay Recruiter Assistance You will be required to meet with a CareerSource Tampa Bay or CareerSouce Pinellas recruiter throughout the HITT program to begin your employment search and build your employability skills to include interviewing skills, mock interviews, interview preparation, job referrals, one-stop seminars, and job fairs. You will be required to register in Employ Florida and upload your resume to www.employflorida.com during the application process.
College Career Development You will be required to meet with the College s Career Development staff throughout the HITT program to build your career development plan to include resume development, personality assessments, interest skills assessments, career skills assessments, and use of college career development centers.
