What Do You Know About UNM-Gallup? We are an open admissions institution for all persons age 17 or over who have completed high school or GED or 24 transferable college credits or ACT composite of 29. We offer 19 certificate programs, 12 Associate of Applied Science (AAS), 4 Associate of Science (AS), 8 Associate of Arts (AA) degrees. We have a north campus which houses the ABE/GED programs and a branch campus in Zuni. We are home to Middle College High School, a unique partnership with UNM- Gallup that allows a seamless college transition for students. Total Enrollment for Fall 2014 is 2,266 with an average of 78% comprised of Native American students.

Common Challenges Preparation Remedial, non-college credit courses More remedial courses = more semesters & money Lack of communication Asking for assistance too little or too late Low academic performance Lack of support, work/family commitments, childcare, transportation Students may encounter barriers with financial aid Maximum credit hours reached prematurely; petitions are required thereafter

Some Unique Challenges Students are not familiar with the college enrollment process; process may be intimidating and daunting. Distance Students may travel 1+ hours, few online courses Inclement Weather Non-Traditional Student Body Students are parents and have family obligations Misconceptions Unaware that most programs will take more than 2 years to complete; unprepared for academic rigor and high expectations Retention Students stop-out mid-degree=low completion rate

Students are selected utilizing a points system after completion of the entrance exam. Kaplan Students who score 5 points or higher are considered for admission into the program. Students are allowed only three attempts to take the entrance exam.

Outcomes and Success 2011-2013 Average 90.27% NMBON, NCSBN (National Council State Board of Nursing) Students complete a Kaplan test every quarter/ semester and take the predictor at the end of 4th semester to prepare for NCLEX. As of August 2014, ACEN accredited! RN to BSN and beyond Now: Students who are licensed or pending licensure have the opportunity to continue with the RN/BSN program offered online through UNM main campus. Future Initiatives: NMNEC (New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium) Curriculum Students in the near future will have the choice to pursue a ADN or BSN degree track.
