Chapter1.Introduction Introduction Notice: The features discussed in this document are planned for release in June 2012 and are currently available in the beta version of Portlock Storage Manager Client. This beta version is available from our FTP server at: http://www.portlock.com:88/public/download/beta/storagemanager PortlockStorageManagerClient Portlock Storage Manager Client provides an extensive set of commands for managing Novell NetWare servers. These features include commands for imaging and virtualizing Novell NetWare. Portlock Storage Manager Client also supports accessing partitions and file systems stored within VMware virtual disks. The types of supported file systems include: FAT12 FAT16 FAT32 NTFS NetWare Traditional Volumes NetWare 5.x NSS Volumes NetWare 6.x NSS Pools Portlock Storage Manager Client supports virtual disks created by Veeam Backup & Replication. These virtual disks have the same format as created by VMware. Portlock Storage Manager Client supports the following types of features when working with virtual disks: Display and browse the file systems. Extract entire file system to local storage. Extract individual directories and files to local storage. VeeamBackupReplication Veeam Backup & Replication is built specifically for virtual environments to provide fast backup and recovery for virtual machines running on both VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V. With a single license, from a unified console, you can support your entire virtual infrastructure with industry leading features such as instant file level recovery and streamlined VM recovery, scalability, 2-in-1 backup & replication, built-in de-duplication, centralized management and much more. InstantFileLevelRecovery Veeam supports instant file level recovery directly from Veeam backup images for NTFS and FAT file systems. Veeam does not support NetWare file systems with this feature. To recover individual files for NetWare systems from Veeam backups, you will first need to extract the Veeam backup to a VMware virtual disk. Portlock Storage Manager Client can then process the virtual disks as normal file systems for file and directory restore. Copyright 2000-2012 Portlock Corporation Page 4 of 13
