1 How to Perform Data Backup for No Boot Issues? With Screenshots There are different ways to backup data when the system is not booting to OS. The most easy and successful one is by going to recovery console. This backup can be done with or without the OS disk (RCD). If RCD is present then always use the RCD first. It is a time-consuming process, so use this as a last option if customer has extremely important information. How to Open Recovery Console with or without RCD: 1. Turn off the computer and wait at least 5 seconds with the computer in a full off state. 2. Turn on the computer and press the F8 key repeatedly as the computer starts. An "Advanced Boot Options" screen opens if the system partition on the hard drive is still good. This screen will tell you if RCD is required or Not - If Advanced Boot Options shows the Option Repair Your Computer then you can continue without RCD. Select Repair My Computer and hit enter. 3 [If you have recovery console on the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F8 key after the first startup screen appears. Select Recovery Console using the arrow and Enter keys. NOTE: If using a Recovery Tools CD, select Run Microsoft Recovery Console, and follow the onscreen instructions to open the recovery console. If the Recovery Console option is not listed, select Return to OS Choices Menu to select Recovery Console] It ll start the Windows Loading screen and may take more than few minutes to show the next Windows Select Language screen (shown below). 5 It ll automatically start a startup repair process. Click Cancel. You may have to wait for few minutes to see the next screen if Cancel option is not highlighted. If cancel is highlighted then skip to Figure 9 Figure 6 If the repair process does not detect any problems starting Vista, it will display a list of available recovery tools. If it does detect a problem it will attempt to perform a Startup Repair to automatically fix these problems. The automatic repair process can take quite a while. So please be patient as Vista attempts to find and repair any problems on your computer. During this process your computer may reboot multiple times, which is normal and nothing to be worried about. Click Cancel once the repair is completed. During this process you may also be presented with a dialog box asking if you would like to restore your computer using System Restore. Click Cancel if asks to perform system restore. 4

If it does detect a problem it will attempt to perform a Startup Repair to automatically fix these problems. The automatic repair process can take quite a while.

Select the user you want, right click->copy and paste.

Select the user you want, right click->copy and paste. The mouse cursor usually disappears or shows the hour glass while copying which may take time depending on the data.
