Ed2go Student Support Services Registered Students ONLY... 12 Ed2go 2013-2014 Course Calendar... 13 Student Questions How do the classes work? Do they follow the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development Term schedule? A new section of each course starts monthly on the third Wednesday of every month, year-round. All courses run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. Students have access to all lessons until the course ends. We strongly recommend that students complete each lesson within two weeks of its release. The final exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the final exam has been released, students will have two weeks to complete all course work, including the final exam. What does an online classroom look like? Can I see a lesson preview? Visit www.ed2go.com. In the blue shaded Take a Course box on the right side, click the Learn More button. At the next screen, click the orange Demo Lesson button on the right side. Click View Demo button for the lesson that you d like to preview. OR Visit http://www.ed2go.com/coursedemolessonpreview.aspx Click View Demo button for the lesson that you d like to preview. Where can I find detailed information about a course? To view classes, syllabi, and requirements, visit http://greatoaks.augusoft.net From the blue menu bar on the left, click Courses to Browse all courses OR use the SEARCH box in the top right to look for a specific course. Our Ed2go online classes are integrated into the columns with our classroom-based classes. The Ed2go logo appears before each online class. Where can I find out about the instructor qualifications? If a student follows the instructions above to view course information, the instructor name appears after the description, near the bottom of the page. Click on the blue instructor name to view the instructor biography. Is it possible to communicate with the instructor before a class begins? If a prospective student has specific questions about course content that aren t answered in course description, Great Oaks staff can email questions to Partner Help Desk partnerhelpdesk@cengage.com. This is for staff only. Ed2go Partner Help Desk will not respond directly to students. November 7, 2014 Page 2 of 14

Students can visit www.ed2go.com/greatoaks, click Help on the colored horizontal bar. Click Help Topics on Black Bar at left. Click Instructor Contact and complete the form. Are there quizzes, tests, or assignments? Each lesson will be accompanied by a short, multiple-choice quiz, and some lessons may also include a hands-on assignment. Students should try to complete each quiz and assignment within two weeks from a lesson release. However, once a quiz is released, it is available for the duration of the course. The course will conclude with a final exam. Students will have two weeks from the day the last lesson and final exam are released to complete studies and submit the final exam for evaluation. Who established the curriculum for the online courses? Great Oaks has partnered with Ed2go, a provider of turnkey Online Courses. Ed2go, a division of Cengage Learning, has helped more than 1,800 leading colleges, universities, and other organizations tap into this new and fast-growing online adult continuing education market. Their satisfaction and completion rates are among the highest in the online learning industry, with more than 95% of students indicating that they'd like to take another ed2go online course. They ve served 750,000 students over the last eight years-- more than anyone else in the turnkey online learning industry. Some other local institutions who are Ed2go partners for non-credit adult continuing education are: Cincinnati State Workforce Development, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, and Warren County Career Center. By partnering with ed2go, we bypass the development costs associated with creating and delivering new Online Courses. Great Oaks is able to pick and choose from more than 300 Ed2go courses. Courses are staffed with highly qualified instructors, many of whom are wellknown authors with a body of work that may be familiar to students. Do I get credit and a certificate for the class? If a student earns at least a 65% on the final exam, the student is eligible for a Certificate of Completion. The final exam can be submitted only once. The first submission will be the student's final grade. If the student did not receive a passing score, he or she will not receive a Certificate of Completion. The Certificate of Completion for online classes awards Continuing Education Units (CEUs). For the standard 24 hour online class, 2.4 CEUs are awarded. A CEU is defined as ten hours of participation in a recognized continuing education program, with qualified instruction and sponsorship. CEUs are widely used and recognized by employers as evidence of successful completion of continuing education. Many licensed professions require CEUs in order for the professional to maintain the license. Examples of people who need CEUs include architects, engineers, educators, nurses, mental health professionals, and social workers. Once students complete the final exam, it is their responsibility to print the online completion letter before the classroom closes. To access the online completion letter, students should log in to the classroom, and then click Completion at the top or bottom of any page. From there, they can click Get Completion and print the certificate on their own printer. November 7, 2014 Page 3 of 14

What if I need a grade for tuition reimbursement purposes? If a student successfully completes an online class based on the above criteria, we will be able to provide a letter on Great Oaks letterhead that says that the student has successfully completed the class, based on having attained a score of at least 65% on the final exam. We will also include the student s final exam score on the letter. The letter will bear the signature of Mr. Harry Snyder, Adult Workforce Development Director. How do I register? If a student has a valid credit/debit card, the easiest way to register is: 1. Go to http://greatoaks.augusoft.net 2. Click the Sign In link on the blue left side of the screen. 3. If a student already has a Student Profile, enter User Name and password. If a student doesn t have a Student Profile, click Create New Student Profile. The student profile needs to be created only one time. 4. To display a class: Browse through the catalog by clicking the Course link on the left menu bar OR use Search Box. 5. Add class(es) to the shopping cart and proceed to checkout. If a student doesn t have a valid credit/debit card, he/she can register in person at Scarlet Oaks from 8:00 am until 7:30pm Monday through Thursday OR from 7:30am to 5:00pm on Friday. Is there a deadline for registration? Registration closes two weeks after the class start date. We don t want to encourage you to join the class after it has begun, but it is possible. Are there any discounts available? Classes are very affordably priced at $99. There are no senior or employee discounts available. What is the cancel/refund policy? Refunds less a $15 withdrawal fee will be made for online classes if a student withdraws by 5pm on the Wednesday immediately following the class start date. No refund is available after this time. The refund will be processed by Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development campus registration staff. Will I get confirmation of my registration? Upon completion of registration, a student will receive an email with instruction for classroom login as well as information about class completion requirements and refund policies. November 7, 2014 Page 4 of 14

How do I login to my Classroom? At the time of registration, instructions for classroom login are displayed on screen and emailed to the student. Registered students cannot enter the classroom until the class Start Date. To enter the classroom, enrolled students go to http://greatoaks.augusoft.net. After entering username and password, the registered student will click on Current Registrations on the blue bar on the left. Any current registrations for online classes will appear with a Go to Class link. Clicking the Go to Class link brings the student to the classroom. See screen shots below. Current Registrations Go To Class Link November 7, 2014 Page 5 of 14

Enter Classroom Link What happens if I'm called away during class and fall behind? There's a 10-day Student Extension built into each of the classes. An additional extension is NOT available - the classroom closes after the 10-day extension. But remind students they can save or print all lessons (see next question for details on this.) On the day of the last lesson release, the final exam is also released. All students will be granted two full weeks from this day to complete their studies and the final exam. In addition, all students receive an automatic 10 day extension after this two week period. Can I save the lessons to review later? Yes - Each lesson has a link on its first screen that says Download Printer-Friendly version of Lesson xx. Students can use this link to print and/or save a lesson as an htm file that is accessible off-line when the class is closed. An htm file opens with a Web browser (Explorer, Safari, etc) What happens if I have a question during class? Each lesson is accompanied by an interactive discussion area. When a student needs help with a lesson, he or she should post the question or inquiry in the appropriate course discussion area, where the instructor, his or her teaching assistant, or one of the other students will respond. Will I get a chance to evaluate the class and the instructor? After your final lesson becomes available, students will be able to access the course evaluation form. To access the course evaluation form, log in to the classroom and select the Completion tab at the top or bottom of any page in the classroom. The first section under Completion is the course evaluation. November 7, 2014 Page 6 of 14
