COURSE REGISTRATIONS It is strongly recommended that students give priority to the following courses in order not to extend their period of graduation. Required courses previously failed ( F / U ) Required courses previously withdrawn ( W ) Previous semesters courses not taken Current semester courses (by giving priority to courses that are the pre-requisites of a higher number of required courses) Students enrolled to graduate Engineering programs (excluding Financial Engineering), PhD in Business Administration program will personally complete their course registration for courses via the Student Information Services (SIS). For students of Private and Public Law, MBA, EMBA, Entrepreneurship and Financial Engineering programs, Student Services will complete the course registrations of required courses, while students are expected to enroll personally to the elective courses via SIS. Should the thesis project require more than one advisor due to its nature, a second thesis advisor may be assigned. Advisors are changed pursuant to the consent of the current advisor and approval of the Graduate School Executive Board. In master s degree programs without thesis, each student is assigned with an instructor who will provide guidance on the term project at the latest by the end of the first semester as per the resolution of the Graduate School Executive Board. Registration to thesis, seminar and project courses is completed by Registrar s Office. SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES in COURSE REGISTRATIONS Registration to Courses with Pre-Requisites Courses with pre-requisites can be taken provided that pre-requisite courses are completed with passing grades (at least a grade C or S ). In certain cases, the pre-requisite to a course may not require completion of another course but attainment of a specific status. Pre-requisites are not applicable for repeated courses. Students, who do not meet the pre-requisite, are not allowed to register on courses. Registration to Courses with Co-Requisites Courses with co-requisites can only be taken along with the courses set as co-requisites. Co-requisites of a course are generally courses which include non-graded course hours like laboratory sessions, discussions (i.e. BUS 101 Introduction to Business Administration I and BUS 101L Business Administration I Lab. etc). However, in some cases, two courses can be defined as each other s co-requisite. In such a case, provided that the co-requisite is previously completed with a passing grade (at least a grade C or S ), the course can be taken alone. 2012 2013 Spring Semester Graduate Course Registrations 5
COURSE REPEATS Students may repeat the courses which they had previously taken as per the following terms and conditions. Students who wish to repeat a course register in the relevant course via SIS. Only the last grades obtained in the repeated courses are used in the calculation of the CGPA; however all registered courses by the student are shown on the transcript. Students who wish to repeat a course can register the equivalent course via SIS. Course Repeat via Course Substitution: In the case that the courses to be repeated are electives or courses which have been subsequently excluded from the program; in lieu of such courses, students can take equivalent courses approved by their advisors. This is called Course Substitution. Course substitution forms can be obtained from Student Services. Students must state the course that they want to register in and the course they wish to substitute on the form and must obtain the approval of their academic advisor. Approved requests for course substitution are processed by Student Services. ADD DROPS Add-drops begin in the second week following the beginning of classes and last till the last business day of the third week. During this period, students can change their registered courses (new course registration, dropping a registered course, section changes in a registered course). Add-drop is completed via SIS. Students who previously failed to complete their course registration within the posted dates can complete their course registrations during the add-drop period. Course registrations are not allowed after this date. WITHDRAWALS Graduate students are allowed to withdraw from their registered courses pursuant to the consent of the relevant instructor and approval of the advisor at the latest by the last business day of the 8th week following the start of the classes. Students of MBA and EMBA programs are allowed to withdraw at the latest by the last business day of the 4th week following the start of the classes. Withdrawal forms can be obtained from Student Services. Withdrawal requests of students who obtained an approval are processed by Student Services. In case of a withdrawal: Withdrawn courses are shown with W on students transcripts. Students cannot withdraw from a course they are required to repeat. In unavoidable cases, students may be granted a right to withdraw upon the consent of the relevant advisor and the approval of the Dean/Director of the Institute in which the student is registered. A student may withdraw from at most 2 courses throughout his/her period of study. In the Summer Term, withdrawals by the last business day of the 4th week following the start of classes are considered course cancellation. COURSE LOAD Course load refers to the total credits of the courses taken by a student in any given semester. There is no minimum nor maximum credit limits of course load for graduate students. Students who fail to pay their tuition are not allowed to complete their course registrations, add drops or withdrawals or to take a leave of absence or withdraw from the university.
