Looking Ahead with ACCA A Message from 2012 ACCA President, Mike Krause In my term as President, I would like to lower taxes and decrease unemployment... Oh wait, that's the wrong speech and the wrong presidency! All joking aside, I am honored to serve as your 2012 President of the ACCA-Texas Board of Directors. In 2012, with the help of the ACCA-Texas Board and staff, we will lead ACCA-Texas through a structured and efficient "change" to our business model to strengthen our voice of the HVAC industry and engage participation from members. I opened my own HVAC business in North Texas in 2003, but my passion for HVAC originated in high school after taking a two-year vocational course. I later attended the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Houston, Texas to learn more of the trade before launching my career working for a contractor in Plano, Texas for 13 years. Times have changed, technology has changed, but the need for experienced, educated and qualified HVAC contractors in Texas has not changed. I believe in the importance of attracting younger HVAC personnel to our thriving industry for a livelihood to recharge the profession. Recently, I was asked to give a piece of advice to fellow contractors: "Join ACCA and get to know your fellow competitors." The shared knowledge of senior business owners has proven invaluable to my own contracting business. Experienced contractors have a wealth of knowledge and the time and effort you put into ACCA will bring value as a useful "tool" for everyday business. All of this to say, I enjoy the networking opportunities and the "bellytime" at local chapter events and feel the information I receive from local and state chapters facilitates better business. As a new member of the ComPac Trust, I am impressed with the level of service and professionalism that this Worker's Compensation alternative offers our members. Over the past two years, more than 1.4 million dollars in dividends has returned to the members of the Trust. This member-only benefit is only one of the many advantages of membership in ACCA. ACCA unites the HVAC industry, focusing on issues that will impact all of our businesses and contracting. ACCA serves you by considering how upcoming legislative issues affect HVAC businesses, such as technician licensing and a Contractor trades board. Personally, I would like to see ACCA get behind licensing air duct cleaners. In addition, while all of us have key issues affecting our businesses, ACCA works to promote professionalism and contracting standards. During my free time, I enjoy more hobbies than I can handle: golf, mountain biking, dirt biking, R/C cars and more. My wife and I also support many children's charities in North Texas, and participate in activities at Children's Medical Center. Additionally, we have been busy remodeling the bathrooms in our home, which has been quite challenging. While I have many interests, the truth is this: I am very passionate about the HVAC business and enjoy everything about it. Support, strengthen and ensure the future of ACCA and our industry by getting involved today!
