II. METHODOLOGY 6
Research objectives Analyzing the mobility of tourists with GPS-technology 1 GPS-tracking Integration of GPS-data in the survey 2 tablet-based interviews Receive information about the number and types of POI visits the tourist s spending habits, their demographic characteristics, travel behavior and needs 3 novel application Analysis of the survey data, including filter criterion to represent the context of the user (travel patterns and behavior, POI visits) 4 SPSS, GIS 7

IV. OUTLOOK 30
Outlook Second survey from May to June 2013 Research objective: measure the mobility behavior of hikers (tourists and inhabitants) in the Harz mountains identify gaps in the hiking trail network give recommendations for future hiking projects in the Harz region find out, which components influence the attractiveness of a hiking trail natural elements (e.g., scenic view of a rolling landscape) or staged elements (structured experience-zone). suggestions for improving the design of hiking trails (e.g. signage) Location: a staged hiking trail ( Liebesbankweg ) in the Harz mountains a natural trail ( Brocken mountain) in the Harz mountains 31
