Upgrading from MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 Installation and Configuration Introduction This document will walk you step by step in removing MSDE and the setup and configuring Microsoft SQL Express. This is to be performed on the same server as MSDE. Otherwise you will need the Migrating document if going to a new server. This document begins by removing MSDE so that SQL Express can take over its JURIS instance and prevent reports from having to be re-linked. A list of system requirements from Microsoft can be seen at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/sysreqs.mspx Important Note: A current Juris database backup is required in these instructions. Be sure to create a Juris Management Console Backup prior to continuing with these instructions. LexisNexis/Juris will not be held responsible for loss of data. Removal of MSDE Performed on the SQL server where the Juris Database is hosted. 1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs 2. Uninstall Juris MSDE and Microsoft Server Desktop Environment (JURIS) 3. Reboot the server. 4. Go to Start > Run and type in regedit and click ok 5. Locate the following keys and delete them. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQL HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SQLRedist 6. Delete the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder **Note: Make sure the backup isn t stored in the Microsoft SQL Server Folder before deleting it** 7. Reboot the server.
Accept all defaults unless otherwise noted in these instructions. Installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 Note: After installing, SQL may require a system reboot. 8. Install Microsoft.NET 2.0 Framework from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (If not already installed) 9. Click the following link to download SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=65109 10. Click Save at the File Download popup window. 11. At the Save As window click Desktop on the left hand side then click Save. 12. After the download has completed, double click SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE on the Windows Desktop. 13. Click Run to begin the setup process. 14. At the End User License Agreement screen, check I accept the licensing terms and conditions and click Next. 15. Click Install on the Installing Prerequisites screen. 16. When the install is finished click Next. Setup will perform a quick System Configuration Check. Review the details of any warnings or errors and correct them to ensure optimal product performance. 17. After reviewing the configuration check, click Next. 18. At the Registration Information screen, verify the Name and Company is correct and uncheck Hide advanced configuration options. 19. Click Next to continue. 20. On the Feature Selection screen, click Connectivity Components and click Will be installed on hard drive. 21. Then click Management Studio Express and click Will be installed on hard drive. 22. Click Next to continue. 23. For the Instance Name screen, select the Named instance radio button and type JURIS for the Named Instance. 24. Click next. 25. For the Service Account screen, make sure Use the built-in System account is selected and choose Local system from the drop down menu. 26. Check SQL Browser and make sure SQL Server is check as well. 27. Click Next. 28. On the Authentication Mode screen select Mixed Mode and specify the sa logon password.
Be sure to make note of this password as it will be used in future steps of these instructions. 29. Click Next to continue. 30. Click Next on the Collation Settings screen. 31. Make sure Enable User Instances is check and click Next. 32. Click Next on the Error and Usage Report Settings screen. 33. Click Install on the Ready to install screen. 34. When setup is complete click Next. 35. Click Finish 36. Reboot the Server Juris Blank Database Construction Since this is a new install of SQL essentially, a blank Juris Database has to be created first to allow the AthensDBO login to be created. 1. Click Start>Programs> Juris> Administrative Utilities> Database Constructor The Juris Server setup will now construct your initial database. 2. Check the Client Name you specified earlier in the Registration Information Screen and click Run. 3. Select the SQL Server name you will be connecting to or manually enter the server name if it is not specified and click Connect. (i.e. yourservername\juris ) 4. As the database is being constructed, if you receive the error Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int. Click OK. (this is normal for SQL 2005 and SQL 2005 Express) 5. Click Finish on the Maintenance Complete screen. Configuration of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 1. Click Start> All Programs (or Programs)> Microsoft SQL Server 2005> SQL Server Management Studio Express. 2. At the Connect to Server window select SQL Server Authentication from the Authentication dropdown. 3. Type sa for the login and type in your password. (set earlier in this installation) 4. Check Remember Password and click Connect. 5. In the Object Explorer pane on the left side, click the plus next to Databases. You will notice there are two (or more) databases that say (Restricted User). 6. Right click JurisXXXXXXX (Restricted User) (where X s denote your client code) 7. Click Properties.
8. Click Options on the Select a Page left hand pane. 9. In the list on the right hand side, locate the Restrict Access option under State. 10. Change the option from RESTRICTED_USER to MULTI_USER by selecting it from the drop down menu. Then Click OK. 11. Click Yes to the Open Connections prompt. 12. Going back to the Object Explorer pane on the left side, Right click JBillsXXXXXXX (Restricted User) (where X s denote your client code) 13. Click Properties. 14. Click Options on the Select a Page left hand pane. 15. In the list on the right hand side, locate the Restrict Access option under State. 16. Change the option from RESTRICTED_USER to MULTI_USER by selecting it from the drop down menu. Then Click OK. 17. Click Yes to the Open Connection prompt. 18. In the Object Explorer pane on the left side, click the plus next to Security and then single click on Logins to select it. 19. Double click the icon next to the AthensDBO username to open the properties of it. 20. Change the Default database to JurisXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). Then click OK. Now we need to create two logins called JurisRPT and JurisRPT2 21. In the Object Explorer pane on the left, right click Logins and click New Login 22. Type in JurisRPT in for Login Name field. 23. Change to SQL Server authentication and leave the password fields blank. 24. Uncheck Enforce password policy 25. Change the Default database to JurisXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). 26. Click OK. 27. You will be prompted about the blank password, click Yes to continue. 28. In the Object Explorer pane on the left, right click Logins and click New Login 29. Type in JurisRPT2 in for Login Name field. 30. Change to SQL Server authentication and set the password to the same as the Login Name. 31. Uncheck Enforce password policy 32. Change the Default database to JurisXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). 33. Click OK. Now we need to restore the two databases. 34. Going back to the Object Explorer pane on the left side, Right click JBillsXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). 35. Arrow down to Tasks> Restore> and click Database 36. Under the Source for restore section, select From device: and click the ellipse * +
37. In the Specify Back screen, click Add. 38. Browse to the location where you have a current copy of a Juris database backup. Click OK. 39. Click OK again. 40. Check the restore option that has the database named JBillsXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). 41. Click on Options in the Select a Page pane on the left. 42. Check Overwrite the existing database 43. Click OK The restoration of the JBillsXXXXXXX database is now processing and may take a few minutes. 44. Click OK at the completed screen. 45. Going back to the Object Explorer pane on the left side, Right click JurisXXXXXXX (where X s denote your client code). 46. Arrow down to Tasks> Restore> and click Database 47. Under the Source for restore section, select From device: and click the ellipse * + 48. In the Specify Back screen, click Add. 49. Browse to the location where you have a current copy of a Juris database backup. Click OK. 50. Click OK again. 51. Close the SQL Server Management Studio Express. 57. Click Start> All Programs (or Programs)> Microsoft SQL Server 2005> Configuration Tools> and Click SQL Server Configuration Manager. 58. On the left hand pane, click the plus next to SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration and single click Protocols for JURIS. 59. Right click Named Pipes and click Enable. (if not already set to Enabled). 60. After enabling click OK to the restart prompt. 61. Right click TCP/IP and click Enable. (if not already set to Enabled) 62. After enabling click OK to the restart prompt.
63. On the left hand pane, click the plus next to SQL Server 2005 Native Client Configuration and single click Client Protocols. 64. Right click Named Pipes and click Enable. (if not already set to Enabled) 65. After enabling click OK to the restart prompt. 66. Right click TCP/IP and click Enable. (if not already set to Enabled) 67. After enabling click OK to the restart prompt. 68. On the left hand pane, single click on SQL Server 2005 Services 69. Right click SQL Server (JURIS) and click restart. 70. Close out of SQL Server Configuration Manager. Log into Juris to ensure functionality
