NOVARTIS Swiss health insurance exclusively for NOVARTIS associates FOR THE BEST MEDICINE. TODAY AND TOMORROW.
Basic healthcare insurance Compulsory health insurance in Switzerland. People resident in Switzerland are required by law to be insured with a Swiss insurer against the risk of illhealth. This compulsory health care insurance (basic insurance) provides cover against the financial risks of ill-health, maternity and also depending on the employment situation against accidents. Within the canton of residence, people are free to choose from any doctor covered by the basic insurance (which applies to the vast majority of doctors) and free also to choose from any public hospital. Under special insurance plans, very substantial reductions in the premium are often possible. SWICA, the health insurance partner of NOVARTIS, offers various attractive plans. With FAVORIT MEDICA, for example, insured members are free to choose their doctor from a comprehensive list of primary care providers and specialists. FAVORIT TELMED is another alternative SWICA plan. The insured person must be willing to call the sante24 hotline before visiting a doctor or a hospital. Sante24 and the insured member will determine the next steps under consideration of the individual situation. Insured members can change their basic insurance without having to pass a medical examination with the new insurer. The basic insurance is currently offered by just over 80 different health insurance companies. The scope of services is laid down by law and therefore the same throughout Switzerland. However, there is a difference in the quality of service between the various companies, which is sometimes noticeable. SWICA provides services of proven high quality. Premiums. The premiums for the basic insurance are graded according to the age of the insured person and the person s place of residence. A move within Switzerland can therefore have an influence on the premium. Children and juveniles, young adults aged 19 or older and adults from the age of 26 years fall into separate age groups. Health insurers have to charge standardized premiums within a given premium region and within a given age group. But there may be considerable differences between the various companies.

NOVARTIS has reached an agreement with SWICA according to which a package of supplementary insurance plans may be concluded without a medical examination at an attractive price. This package comprises the insurance plans COMPLETA TOP, COMPLETA PRAEVENTA, HOSPITA GENERAL and the global private patient plan INFORTUNA, which provides insurance cover in case of accidents.
Selectable cost sharing options In the basic insurance, insured members share in their treatment costs. This cost sharing is governed by law and is made up of an annual franchise and the excess: Adults pay the first CHF 300 of their treatment costs in a given calendar year the legally stipulated annual franchise themselves. It is possible to pay a greater share of the treatment costs by choosing one of the optional annual franchises. The optional annual franchises which adults can choose from are currently CHF 500, CHF 1 000, CHF 1 500, CHF 2 000 or CHF 2 500. Insured members pay the legally stipulated excess amounting to 10 % of the costs not covered by the franchise. This so-called excess amounts to a maximum of CHF 700 for adults and a maximum of CHF 350 per year for children. Insured members who opt to select a higher annual franchise receive very high premium discounts. Cost sharing in the supplementary insurance plans differs from one insurer to another. At SWICA the optional excess sums that can be selected for hospital insurance amount to CHF 1 000 (15 % discount), CHF 2 000 (25 %) and CHF 5 000 (50 %). Exclusive SWICA advantage: transparent and favorable cost sharing. SWICA is the only health insurer to count all costs shared by its members in both the basic insurance plan and in top-up insurance plans together. As a result, the excess costs are much lower than with other insurers.
