Berkeley Vale Private Hospital Hospital Description Located within the Wyong Shire, Berkeley Vale Private Hospital is the newest private hospital on the Central Coast, being opened in August 1990. A member of Ramsay Health Care Limited since July 2001, the hospital is located approximately a one hour drive north from Sydney and south from Newcastle, and is within thirty (30) minutes of both major public hospitals on the Central Coast Gosford and Wyong Public. It is a seventy five (75) bed hospital and it was the first private hospital on the Central Coast to establish a comprehensive rehabilitation program, approved by all the health funds, insurance companies, Workcover and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Although traditionally an older population, a shift continues to occur to a younger patient case mix. The Wyong shire continues to accommodate the largest cohort of Department of Veteran Affairs patients in NSW. Rotations offered at Berkeley Vale Private Medical/Rehabilitation Surgical Theatre/Anaesthetic/Recovery Clinical placement details Prior to your clinical placement you will need to get in touch via email or telephone with the coordinator at the hospital. Their details can be found on the last page of this document. They will then advise you of your roster for your clinical placement. A morning shift usually commences at 7am and finishes at 3.30pm, and an afternoon shift usually commences at 1.30pm and finishes at 10pm. However this can
vary between wards, therefore it s important to confirm these times with your Coordinator before you start. On your first day Arrival Your first day will commence at 8am in the conference room of the hospital. You should present at the main reception of the hospital and let the receptionist know that you have arrived. The orientation is intended to provide you with background information about the hospital, Ramsay Health Care, essential safety considerations and procedures, and an introduction to the ward area in which you will complete your first placement. Documentation Ensure that you bring all the required documentation as noted below (evidence of elearning, police check and vaccination record) and your clinical record book. Dress Standard Members of the public will see you as a representative of this hospital and you are expected to adhere to the same dress standards as our staff. These include wearing of uniform with closed in shoes, name badge, minimal jewellery (wedding band is the only acceptable ring to be worn and only one pair of sleepers or stud earrings). Long hair (below shoulder length) must be tied back and the wearing of makeup should be kept to a minimum. Food and Beverages Morning and afternoon teas are supplied. There is a kiosk in the hospital which provides soups, sandwiches etc. at a discounted staff rate (includes students). You may prefer to bring your own meals which can be stored in the fridge in the staff room. Parking and Transport Free parking available on site. Public transport is available E-learning, Vaccinations and CRC All students must complete mandatory e-learning prior to their first clinical placement. Your coordinator will contact you prior to your first placement with details on how to complete these modules. You must also have a current vaccination record and a current criminal record clearance. You must present these documents on your first day of clinical placement. Orientation Program Students will be offered orientation at the commencement of each rotation. You will be given tools to assist you with your orientation which will guide you and your preceptor to ensure you have a comprehensive orientation.
