Mac Client Installation Notes Important Note Please note that Java no longer ships with MAC OS X 10.7 (Lion) and you will need to download and install Java before installing the Attix5 Pro MAC Backup Client or if you are upgrading you will be prompted to download Java. Please see the following technical note for more details Attix5 Pro V6 6.1.x on Mac OS X Lion V10.7. Installation Firstly, download the Mac OS X Backup client from the Downloads page, then double click the downloaded file and you will see this package installer window: Double click the Attix5 Pro.pkg icon to launch the installer: Click Continue, to continue the installation: B 3 Mac Quick Step Backup Software Installation Guide Page 1
You may change the installation folder if you are an advanced user, however most users will just click "Install". You may be prompted to enter your password to confirm you are allowed to install new software on your Mac. Once you have done so, the installation will take about 1 minute, before displaying the following success screen: The installation has completed successfully. Click Close to exit the installer. Running Attix5 Pro for the First Time Open your Applications folder and double click the "Attix5 Pro" icon to run the backup client. On this first run, you will need to enter some configuration information to either connect to an existing account or create a new one: Storage Platform Address: accountserver.disk2cloud.co.nz Group Name: The Group Name and path will be supplied by your Reseller and in this example it is R\Pivot\NZFP\Desktops Group Create Key: your reseller will supply this key which is exclusive to your Group(s) Click Next. Here you choose to either create a new backup account or connect to an existing backup account. Your reseller will let you know which option to choose. Connecting to an Existing Backup Account If you are connecting to an existing Account then you need to enter the Backup Account Name, Account Password and Encryption key. When reconnecting to an existing backup account, you will receive this warning: If you have multiple computers to backup, each one needs its own backup account, otherwise data will be lost. Creating a New Backup Account Enter a new Backup Account name, Account password and Encryption key. Note that the default Account Name is the name of your PC: Please read the warning in red carefully. If you lose your encryption key, you will lose access to your backups. For example if your Mac is stolen, you won't be able to reconnect your new Mac to your existing backup account without the encryption key. This means you won't be able to restore your files. Record your encryption key somewhere safe, but not on the computer itself! Click Next to continue. Common Instructions The following instructions are common, irrespective of whether you are connecting to an existing account, or if you created a new backup account. If you use a proxy server to access the internet you may configure it here. Most people do not use a proxy server, however if you are unsure ask your IT support people. Here you may configure the times of the day that your Mac runs a backup. By default a daily automatic will start no earlier than 7pm. In fact it may run anytime between 7pm and 6am the following day. If you Mac is off overnight, it will backup first thing in the morning when it is turned back on. You may reconfigure these settings later. Click Next to continue. These working folders contain the necessary data to perform your backups, and the default values should be fine for most people. These folders can be changed later if necessary. Click Next to continue. A summary screen of your configured preferences is displayed. Click Next to continue. The backup client will connect to the Storage Platform and either create your new backup account, or verify your existing backup account name, password, etc. You should see a "success dialog" similar to the following. Lastly we configure the client and perform your first backup... Performing Your First Backup It is now time to perform you first backup. If you prefer to watch a video to explain how to perform your first backup, please view the Installation and First Backup video, picking up at 2 minutes and 35 seconds, right after the Windows installation procedure. We need to select the files and folders to backup. In this example, right click on the Documents folder and select "Include Folder". Next we should check how big our backup selection is. Do this by clicking the Size button near the top left of the Attix5 Pro window. In this example we have: When we are happy with our selection, we can either wait for the overnight backup to run, or click the "Backup" button. When the backup is complete you receive a confirmation window similar to this: Congratulations, you have successfully run your first backup. Please view the tutorial videos to get the most from your backup client. They include advanced file selection techniques, restoring your data, advanced options and accessing your backups via a web browser. These videos were filmed using a Windows client; however they apply equally to the Mac client. Just skip over the Windows installation section of the first video. Enjoy!
