Digital Media for Distributed Enterprise Communications Hughes has created products that can be used to accomplish the various goals and objectives of the distributed enterprise s communication programs. Each product offers a range of services by itself, and when combined into a total solution, they provide a very cost-effective way to satisfy an enterprise s media and communication requirements. These products include Hughes-developed and third-party products that Hughes has integrated into our solutions to offer the most complete suite of products on the market. This solutions guide will outline the breadth of the Hughes Digital Media offerings and show how these products offer great value as stand-alone products and even greater value when combined into broader communication services. Hughes is a leader in this market and our ability to offer these products as either a stand-alone purchase or as part of a total managed service offering sets Hughes apart. The Hughes Digital Media products are organized into three primary categories of solutions offerings MediaTraining, MediaSignage, and MediaTV. Digital Media MediaTraining MediaSignage MediaTV Learning Portal MediaGate Server HS3400 Appliance Hughes SST-1000 MediaGate Server Third-Party SCALA Player SCALA CM Cisco IEC Player Cisco IEM Server MediaGate Server SST-1000 Slingbox 350 DISH TV HughesON is a comprehensive suite of managed network and digital media solutions designed for multi-branch organizations ranging from high-capacity access, managed security, WiFi, and VoIP to digital signage and video-on-demand training.

Hughes MediaTraining Hughes understands the power and value of workforce training and certification within a distributed organization. The products Hughes offers under the MediaTraining banner are robust, powerful, and feature-rich. Hughes Learning Portal The Hughes Learning Portal is an online Software as a Service (SaaS) product that is quick to implement and easy to operate. As an SaaS offering, infrastructure costs are reduced to zero. One phone call and Hughes turns on the service. The organization immediately begins uploading content and assigning learning to its workforce. The Hughes Learning Portal is simple, fast, and cost-effective. The Hughes Learning Portal is an online doorway through which students participate in corporate learning and certification. The Hughes Learning Portal is a seventh generation tool that Hughes offers as a service to hundreds of customers with a total of more than 500,000 students. The Hughes Learning Portal is a rich environment for managing user access to training and learning content. The Hughes Learning Portal can be integrated with an existing user management directory, such as Active Directory and also with other existing systems (HR Talent Management or LMS). The Hughes Learning Portal supports Single Sign-On which means that if the customer desires, Hughes can detect the Windows Login that was used to sign into the PC and use that to automatically log the student into the Hughes Learning Portal. This removes an additional login step, if desired. By using Single Sign-On to integrate with Active Directory, the user can login with the same user name and password that they use for other network services. The Hughes Learning Portal also has APIs for connecting to other data sources. The Hughes Learning Portal is a SCORM-compliant application, which means a lot of data can be captured and reported, such as time of login, how long the user spent on certain activities, scores, and more. The Hughes Learning Portal also supports content ratings, allowing the student to give content a rating of 1-5. Those ratings are reported back to the head-end for evaluation. The Hughes Learning Portal provides moderated or unmoderated forums. This allows students the chance to talk amongst themselves or with subject matter experts. Hughes HS3400 Media Appliance The Hughes HS3400 Media Appliance is a robust tool for delivering video content to the edges of a distributed network. The HS3400 is referred to as a business DVR. It provides services, such as live stream playback, video recording and playback, video-on-demand content services, and more. The HS3400 is the onsite component for a robust media services infrastructure. With the HS3400, content can be positioned at the edge of the network so that users can access that content without impacting the broader corporate WAN. The HS3400 can act as a content delivery point as well. Video-on-Demand services are delivered through the HS3400. Users can interact directly with the HS3400 using a remote control or they can connect to the HS3400 through a standard Web browser to view the available video-on-demand assets.

When the HS3400 is used as a corporate DVR, the organization has the ability to control recordings and other functions at the remote site or centrally. With live broadcasts, the HS3400 can be automatically tuned to the proper channel and play the content. Local site users can be prevented from changing the channel during the broadcast. The organization can also centrally control whether or not a program is recorded or allowed to record and control which programs are available to which remote sites. This powerful edge device is a core component of the Hughes MediaTraining solutions. Hughes MediaGate Server The Hughes MediaGate Server (MGS) is the central management and control server for the MediaTraining solutions. Using the MGS, content can be distributed to any or all of the HS3400 units in the network. The MGS also serves as a reporting engine, gathering the information from the various devices on the network and bringing it all together in one central location. Video-on-Demand content is managed from the MGS. The organization can organize the content into categories, assign thumbnails and manage the delivery of content to the various remote sites all from a simple Web-based administration console. Hughes MediaSignage The Hughes MediaSignage products are divided into two categories. Hughes has products that are the result of Hughes intellectual property, developed and built by Hughes, and third-party products used to enhance Hughes ability to meet customers requirements. Hughes MediaGate Server The Hughes MediaGate Server (MGS), the same one used in the Hughes MediaTraining solutions, is the management console for the Hughes MediaSignage solutions. The MGS includes the content management, content scheduling, and content distribution services necessary to create a robust, distributed signage network. That signage network may include internal and external facing communication and may include images and video along with text and other data sources. The MGS has the ability to assign certain functions to users within the workflow. The MGS allows an organization to group signage players in multiple ways and have the content distributed according to the requirements of the various groups. Hughes SST-1000 Media Player The Hughes SST-1000 is an advanced, high-definition 1080p media player optimized for rich-media playback and large LCD/LED video displays. The Hughes SST-1000 is based on the Apple Mac Mini and includes the latest version of the Hughes MediaSignage client software preinstalled. When used with a Hughes MediaSignage server (or hosted environment), each Hughes SST-1000 device can deliver unique content, giving the user complete control over what and when content is displayed.

SCALA Digital Signage Player With more than two decades of experience in the digital signage software business, SCALA is a recognized leader in digital signage software development. Hughes has worked closely with SCALA engineers for several years to build solutions that meet the demanding needs for customization and integration in an enterprise communication solution. The result is a complete solution that combines SCALAcertified software with the Hughes content delivery technology and managed services. Combining the respective strengths of Hughes and SCALA provides a powerful and flexible solution. SCALA Content Manager When the customer requirements include multichannel or robust advertising management services, Hughes includes the SCALA content manager as part of the offering. Working with Hughes, SCALA has created a multi-tiered distribution method that allows the administrator to manage their content and resources within the SCALA content manager tool and then have the system automatically take those assets and the scheduling information and deliver them to the remote sites. When a remote site has multiple customer experiences or channels, it is important to carefully manage the content delivery traffic on the Wide Area Network (WAN). Hughes has built a solution that allows the multicast distribution of content to the remote sites, and then unicast delivery of content within the site to the various signage players. This combination of services improves the delivering timing and results in a far more robust and reliable delivery of content to the edge. Cisco Interactive Experience Client The Cisco Interactive Experience Client (IEC) is an enterprise-grade, configurable, and manageable Web client designed to deliver interactive multimedia services for public venues, including high-definition digital displays and kiosks. This managed kiosk platform includes integration components to work with a wide range of Web-compatible applications and includes integrations for Cisco call manager. The client hardware is designed for highly reliable, embedded kiosk applications. The Cisco IEC supports touchscreens and other externally connected devices. Hughes has collaborated with Cisco to create solutions that take full advantage of the benefits of the IEC. The collaboration has integrated the IEC into the Hughes MediaSignage solution as an additional player type that can be used with the MediaGate server infrastructure. This allows the enterprise to manage content and playlists for multiple player types from a single Web-based management interface. Cisco IEM Server The Cisco IEC appliance is managed through a profile management server. The server was developed by Cisco and is provided through Hughes to customers who require the profile management capabilities.

Hughes MediaTV Hughes sees the value in mixing live television into a rich-media communications platform. Hughes has taken industry-leading technologies and integrated them to create a robust platform for delivering communications and infotainment to the edge of the network. Hughes MediaGate Server As discussed above, the MGS is the central management console for all of the Hughes media solutions. In the MediaTV segment it offers content management and scheduling services. Hughes SST-1000 Media Player As discussed previously, the SST-1000 is a robust media player. It allows Hughes to integrate live television into a conventional digital signage layout. Slingbox 350 The Slingbox 350 from SLING Media gives Hughes the flexibility to integrate with any commercial television service. The SLINGBOX 350 is connected between the digital television receiver and the SST-1000. DISH TV Although Hughes can work with any digital television source, Hughes recommends the DISH TV service and has developed offerings that include the DISH Commercial TV packages. Summary All the Hughes Digital Media are available as stand-alone products or as part of a HughesON managed solutions service. As a global service provider, Hughes is uniquely qualified to provide a fully managed, turnkey messaging and media communications offering to enterprise customers. Whatever your communication requirements are, Hughes has the products and services to give you a complete solution.
