1 DEMS Deployment Scenarios Standalone DEMS is running on a single computer. Media files can be stored either on this computer or on external storage. - Does not require technical expertise - Minimal maintenance required - No network connectivity required - A maximum of 18 cameras can be connected and uploading to DEMS at any point - Evidence cannot be viewed on other computers (but DVD copies can easily be made) - Evidence is not held at a remote & secure location - Windows 8 - None Required Pre-Installed Software (comes with DEMS): - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express - RS3 codecs for Windows XP - IMAPI Service for Windows XP

2 Workgroup DEMS is running on 2 or 3 computers. These computers are connected to each other through a mini network with one acting as the server. This scenario is suitable for relatively small deployments on a network (normally within the same building). - Installation requires only basic technical skills - Minimal maintenance required - Evidence can be viewed over the network on each computer - The number of cameras able to upload at any point is limited by the number of computers in the workgroup, where every computer can have a maximum of 18 cameras connected at any point - Evidence is not held at a remote & secure location - Windows 8 - Multiple Ethernet cables with a hub or a router connecting the computers Required Pre-Installed Software (comes with DEMS): - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express - RS3 codecs for Windows XP - IMAPI Service for Windows XP

3 Enterprise DEMS is running on multiple client computers connected to a server over a wide area network. - Central control, reporting and audit of all evidence, users and cameras - View any videos anywhere - Upload any camera at any location - No practical limit on number of cameras to be managed - Active directory support allows single sign-on - All evidence held centrally - The installation process requires IT skills - IT skills needed to maintain the system and to carry out future upgrades - Files need to be transferred over the corporate network. Sufficient bandwidth must be available. - Windows 2008 R2 Server SE For Client computers: - Windows 8 Enterprise - Windows server 2003 R2 family (except Web Edition) and above For Client computers: - Through the organization s existing network infrastructure Required Pre-Installed Software: - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Studio - Microsoft IIS For Client Computers:

4 - IMAPI service for Windows XP computers - RS3 codecs for Windows XP computers

5 Hybrid Similar to the enterprise scenario where all database information is held centrally. In this case the videos themselves are held at the location which they were uploaded to avoid the need to transfer them over the network; this scenario delivers many of the advantages of the Enterprise scenario without utilising significant bandwidth. - Central control, reporting and audit of all evidence, users and cameras. - View any videos anywhere (if view low resolution files facility is enabled) - Upload any camera at any location - No practical limit on number of cameras to be managed - Active directory support allows single sign-on - The installation process requires IT skills - IT skills needed to maintain the system and to carry out future upgrades - Files need to be transferred over the corporate network if low resolution playback is used. Sufficient bandwidth must be available. - Evidence is not held at a remote & secure location - Windows 2008 R2 Server SE For Gateway and Client computers: - Windows 8 Enterprise - Windows server 2003 R2 family (except Web Edition) and above

6 For Gateway and Client computers: - The central server is connected to the different sites through the organization s existing network infrastructure. We recommend you set the internal connection within the sites to be using a dedicated mini network.
