Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) Overall Purpose of an Instructional Skills Workshop The ISW is offered within a small group setting (four to six participants) and is designed to enhance teaching effectiveness. This workshop is suitable for experienced or inexperienced educators, corporate trainers and government employees who deliver training. Project Management Certificate CNA Q s Project Management Certificate is designed to enhance the skills of project team members as well as project managers in areas such as time management, communication and scope. CNA Q is a PMI Registered Education Provider; as such, students will learn how to manage projects efficiently and effectively using industry best practices according to PMBOK methodology. Research Assistant Certificate Individuals working on research projects need to complete many tasks to ensure overall success. Often, research projects are like running a small business, and being prepared for these challenges can be overwhelming. In this program, participants will be exposed to key aspects of research fundamentals and practices while building a portfolio for future job placement. The Research Assistant Certificate program is comprised of six courses that are taught in a collaborative and integrated format to develop teamwork among participants. These courses are: Fundamentals of Research Communications for Research Assistants Math of Data Management Qualitative Research Quantitative Research Professional Research Practice Entry requirements Must possess a university degree or college diploma from a recognized institution Must meet a minimum English language skills level assessment of IELTS 5.5 Students successfully completing the course requirements will be given the option to pursue a post-diploma.* *In order to obtain a post diploma for this program, students must complete a 350-hour work placement at an approved research facility, where they will further develop their research skills. Students opting to undertake this component are responsible for securing their work placement, and will be provided with support to find suitable opportunities to complete the research hours for completion of the diploma program. Communications for Research Learners will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in communicating confidently in a variety of research situations. The development of written and oral skills that support each step of the research process from data gathering to report presentation will be emphasized. Learners will develop and report literature reviews, research proposals and laboratory documentation such as logbooks and standard operating procedures. Professional correspondence and guidelines for correctly citing sources and respecting intellectual property will also be examined. Tuesdays, September 17 February 25 Course Descriptions: Fundamentals of Research This course introduces the process of inquiry within the main branches of science: physical, biological and social. The principles, processes, methodologies, analytical tools and ethical considerations pertinent to research will be highlighted to provide students with the knowledge and how to skills expected of a competent consumer, and assistant producer, of research. The selection and arrangement of course topics are based on the premise that students have limited or no exposure to research methodologies and processes. At the end of the course, students will have an objective, comprehensive grounding in qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research methodology from problem articulation to published report. Sundays, September 15 February 23 Qualitative Research Qualitative research is an approach to inquiry that focuses on lived experience and the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem (adapted from Creswell, 2007). In this project-based course, learners complete a preliminary qualitative research project in order to examine the process of designing and conducting investigations within this field of inquiry. Five qualitative research approaches used across disciplines are explored: biography, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. Quantitative Research The focus of this hands-on course is on exploring quantitative research design and statistical analysis by use of simulation software. The underlying foundations and assumptions of quantitative methods will first be explored, followed by an examination of strategies for selecting appropriate research methods such as experimental, descriptive and correlational research. Through the formal, objective, and systematic processes of quantitative research, students will learn to utilize numerical data and statistical output to obtain information about the world. The opportunities and challenges of international procurement versus domestic procurement will be discussed. Professional Skills Seminar Descriptions: Communication and Relationship Skills Essential to the successful supply professional are the competencies of listening skills, spoken and written communication, persuasiveness and the ability to explain complex issues up and down the organization and around the supply chain. Another critical ability is building effective inter organizational supply relationships. The seminar covers how to create and deliver strong presentations and how to be professional in your spoken communications by looking at steak, sizzle and style. Non verbal communication such as appearance and body language are also explored. The seminar also offers guidance on producing clear, concise and compelling reports and written communication, and examines do s and don ts in electronic communication today.
