(Principal), Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center RESEARCH CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS Hagstrom, Kathy A, Kroll, Tobias, Veesart, Amanda T, Pasupathy, Rubini, Newton, Kyle, Johnson, Brandon K, Interprofessional conflict resolution: a simulated exercise in teamworking, (On-Going) We are proposing to investigate whether a brief instruction and exercise in interprofessional conflict resolution helps students feel better prepared to deal with interprofessional conflict. Three classes will participate: AHSL 4320, N4800 (both classes are taught at TTUHSC) and N4381 (an online class). In the former two, the activity in question is mandatory part of the curriculum but participation in the study is voluntary; in the latter, both activity and participation are voluntary. Participants will fill out a brief questionnaire on how confident they feel using a variety of techniques to resolve conflict in the workplace. All students will then watch a brief lecture on conflict resolution based on the TeamSTEPPS approach. It will include two scenarios, acted out by TTU acting students. Both scenarios will deal with an interprofessional conflict. In one case, both actors will remain professional, in the other case, the conflict will get personal. Students will be asked to draft a resolution for each scenario based on the lecture. Students on site at the HSC will work in groups; online students may work alone. N4381 students will then watch recorded resolution scenarios and fill out the same questionnaire. Students on site at HSC will act out their resolutions in the SimLife center with the actor from the videos. One student from each group will be randomly designated to act out the resolution. After this activity, all on-site participants will fill out the same questionnaire. The goal is to establish whether there is an increase in confidence from before the training, and how the groups differ on the individual items of the questionnaire.
