Using Photo Editor Photo Editor Overview HIE 5 includes Photo Editor - a powerful tool for editing images within your templates and profiles. Insert images and photos from your computer, scanner or digital camera Edit photos and images easily: rotate, crop, resize, and apply special effects Add text, shapes, masks and embellishments to your images Edit and manage images within your Profile(s) The Photo Editor has been completely overhauled for HIE 5. Apply a wide range of effects to your images, and edit them so that they compliment your emails perfectly. Launching Photo Editor Photo Editor is launched automatically in the following scenarios: Double clicking on an image socket while using the Template Editor. During the Insert Image process, when the image is selected 'My Computer'. During the Insert Link flow, if an image is selected from 'My Computer'. Whenever an image is uploaded using ReadyShare. Whenever an image is uploaded using FTP Server. When adding logo, portrait, or signature images for a Profile, if the image is selected from 'My Computer'. To summarize, whenever an image is inserted or uploaded from your computer (or camera), then Photo Editor is launched. Inserting Images 32

To insert an image into Photo Editor, from the Tools panel, click Insert Image. Alternatively, from the main menu bar, click Image Image Insert Image. Using Photo Editor Browse to locate the replacement image (JPEG, GIF, PNG formats are supported), and click Open. You can then resize, crop, move, rotate or apply effects to the image as required. Cropping Images It is often useful to crop images within templates. Cropping can perform two major functions: 1. Remove excess portions of the image that may distract from the image's main focus. 2. Trim the image so that matches the dimensions of the Photo Socket into which it is being inserted. Cropping is different from resizing. Cropping will trim an image, whereas resizing will retain all parts of the image. The Crop / Resize window is automatically opened whenever you insert or upload an image using HIE 5. To open the Crop / Resize window from within Photo Editor itself (e.g. if you are editing a pre-supplied image within a template), select an individual image (or image element), and from the Image menu, click Image Edit / Crop Image. The selected image is displayed in the window. Crop / Resize window From the Crop Options list, select either Moveable Crop or Move Crop & Image. 33

Using Photo Editor You can now use the crop box to crop the image as required. The crop box is a red rectangle with a handle at the midpoint of each of the four edges. Crop box adjusted To adjust the crop box, click and drag one of the handles. This will change the size, but not the shape, of the crop box. This ensures that your cropped image retains its original height-to-width ratio. Click OK to apply the crop and return to the standard Photo Editor window. Resize as required. Once the crop has been applied, you image will occupy less room in your template. You may now want to resize the image so that it fills the available space properly. Positioning some or all of the crop box outside the boundary of the image will result in transparent space being added to the image in that area. Resizing Images There are two ways to resize an image within a Template (or Profile): From within Photo Editor main window Click on the image (or image element) that you want to resize. You can now use the handles to resize the image as required. The handles are arranged around the image, with a handle at each corner and at the midpoint of each edge. 34

Using Photo Editor Photo Editor main window, image selected To adjust the image size, click and drag one of the handles. (To maintain the image height-to-width ratio when resizing, hold down the SHIFT key while dragging.) Using the Crop / Resize window The Crop / Resize window is automatically opened whenever you insert or upload an image using HIE 5. To open the Crop / Resize window from within Photo Editor itself (e.g. if you are editing a pre-supplied image within a template), select an individual image (or image element), and from the Image menu, click Image Edit / Crop Image. The selected image is displayed in the window. 35

Using Photo Editor Crop / Resize window From the Crop Options list, select either Moveable Image or Move Crop & Image. Click on the image to be resized. You can now use the handles to resize the image as required. The handles are arranged around the image, with a handle at each corner and at the midpoint of each edge. 36

Resized image Using Photo Editor To adjust the image size, click and drag one of the handles, or drag the Size slider. Drag the slider to the left to reduce the size of the image, or drag the slider to the right to increase the size of the image. Size slider To maintain the image height-to-width ratio when resizing, hold down the SHIFT key while dragging. Click OK to resize the image and return to the standard Photo Editor window. Resize to Fit. By default, you cannot drag the handles to increase the size of the image beyond its original size. If you do want to increase the size beyond this, then increase the size of the crop box, then click Resize to Fit. The image expands to fill the entire crop box. Resizing is different from cropping. Resizing retains all parts of the image, whereas cropping will trim it. Moving / Rotating Images Moving Images To move an image (or image element), click and drag to the new position. Alternatively, click the image and use the arrow keys to move the image to the desired position. You can only click and drag an image if its layer is unlocked. See Locking / Unlocking Layers for more information. Rotating Images There are two ways to rotate an image within a Template (or Profile): Using the rotate handle Click on the image (or image element) to be rotated. The rotate handle is visible. 37

Using Photo Editor Rotate handle (highlighted) Drag the rotate handle on the image in the direction you want to rotate it. Click outside the image to set the rotation. Rotated image Using the Tools panel / Image menu Select the image (or image element) to be rotated. From either the Tools panel or the Image menu, click Rotate and select one of the following options: 90º clockwise Rotate by 180º Rotate by 90º counter-clockwise Rotate by Angle If Rotate by Angle is selected, adjust the Angle in the Rotate box, then click OK. 38

Using Photo Editor Replacing / Deleting Images Replacing an Image There are two ways to replace an image within a template: From the Photo Editor main window Select the image to be replaced, then from the Image menu, click Image Change / Replace Image. Browse to locate the replacement image (JPEG, GIF, PNG formats are supported), and click Open. From the Crop / Resize window Click Change Image. Browse to locate the replacement image (JPEG, GIF, PNG formats are supported), and click Open. Deleting an Image There are three ways to delete an image within a template: Select the image within Photo Editor, then press the DELETE key. Select the image within Photo Editor, then click the Cut icon. Right-click the image layer in the Objects / Layers window, and click Delete. Applying Effects HIE 5's Photo Editor enables you to apply a wide range of special effects to images. To apply an effect, first select the image (or image element) to which the effect will be applied. Then, select an effect from the Tools panel's Effects menu, or the Effects menu on the main menu bar. The following effects can be applied: Blur Two different Blur effects are available: 39

Motion Blur Using Photo Editor Gives a similar effect to taking a picture of a moving object with a fixed exposure time. From the Motion Blur box, select a dimension value (3-255). The higher the number, the greater the blurring effect. Original image (detail) Motion Blur effect (Dimension = 50) Gaussian Blur Gives hazy effect to the selected image. From the Gaussian Blur box, select a value (1-255). The higher the number, the greater the blurring effect. Gaussian Blur effect (Value = 5) Noise Four different Noise effects are available: Median Noise Reduces noise in an image, by searching for pixels that differ too much from adjacent pixels. These 'noisy' pixels are replaced with the median color value of the surrounding pixels. Useful for reducing unwanted motion effects. From the Median Noise box, select a Filter Size value (1-100). The higher the value, the greater the size of the median filter. 40

Add Noise Using Photo Editor Simulates effect of shooting a picture on high-speed film by adding random pixels to the image. From the Add Noise box, select an amount value (1-2000) and the channel or channels to be affected. The higher the value, the greater the noise effect. Original image (detail) Add Noise (Value = 1000) Max Pixelates the image by adjusting each color value to the maximum value under the filter (i.e. brighten the colors). From the Max box, select the filter size value. The higher the value, the more pronounced the pixilation. Max Noise (Filter Size = 5) Min Pixelates the image by adjusting each color value to the minimum value under the filter (i.e. darken the colors). From the Min box, select the filter size value. The higher the value, the more pronounced the pixilation. 41

Using Photo Editor Min Noise (Filter Size = 5) Sharpen Two different Sharpen effects are available: Unsharp Mask Sharpens an image by increasing contrast along the edges - lighter pixels get lighter, darker pixels get darker. From the Unsharp Mask box, select an amount value (1-500) and threshold value (1-255). The higher the amount, the greater the sharpening effect. The lower the threshold. the greater the contrast applied. Sharpen Focuses an image to improve its clarity. Useful to correct blurry images. From the Sharpen box, select an amount value (1-500), intensity value (1-100) and the channel or channels to be affected. The higher the amount and intensity, the greater the sharpen effect. Edge Detect Two different Edge Detect effects are available: Edge Detect Identifies and emphasizes edges within an image. From the Edge Detect box, select an intensity value, type (gradient, laplacian, or Prewitt), direction (top, bottom, left, or right) and the channel or channels to be affected. The higher the intensity, the greater the effect. Original image (detail) 42

Using Photo Editor Image with Laplacian Edge Detection applied (detail) Edge Detection types. Gradient edge detection is an effective detector for sharp edges where the pixel color levels change over space very rapidly. However, Laplacian edge detection may be more suitable for images where the color variation is more gradual (e.g. most photographs).. Canny Edge Detect Identifies and emphasizes edges within an image using the Canny algorithm. Useful for creating 'color-by-numbers' style images. From the Canny Edge Detect box, select the low hysteresis value, high hysteresis value, and sigma value. Original image (detail) Image with Canny Edge Detection applied (detail) Low hysteresis = 10, High hysteresis = 50, Sigma = 1 Oilify Gives an oil-painting effect to the image. From the Oilify box, select the dimension value (1-500) and max density value (1-255). The higher the dimension value, the less detailed the image. 43

Using Photo Editor Original image (detail) Image with Oilify effect (detail) Dimension = 500, Max Density = 10 Image with Oilify effect (detail) Dimension = 3, Max Density = 255 Emboss Makes a image appear 'raised' or 'stamped' by tracing the edges with a darker color. From the Emboss box, select an angle, depth value (to recess the edges) and elevation value (to raise the surface). It may be necessary to experiment to get the desired effect - use the Undo button if required. Original image (detail) 44

Using Photo Editor Emboss effect (Angle = 5, Depth = 20, Height = 80) Emboss effect (Angle = 5, Depth = 80, Height = 20) Mosaic Clumps pixels into square blocks, giving a pixilation effect resembling a mosaic. All pixels within a single block are the same color. From the Mosaic box, entire a tile size (in pixels). The higher the value, the larger the individual blocks. Original image (detail) Mosaic effect (Tile Size = 10 pixels) Shear 45

Using Photo Editor Distorts an image at an angle, giving a slanting effect. From the Shear box, select the shearing angle (1-45º), background color, and direction (horizontal or vertical). The higher the angle, the greater the shear effect. 45º horizontal shear, blue background Using Layers Photo Editor uses 'Layers' to manage the different elements and objects that make up a composite image. Every image, mask, shape, or text object is assigned to a layer. For example, the image below is made up of three photos, a mask layer (the filmstrip), and three 'play button' images. Photo Editor with image open 46

Using Photo Editor Composite image (detail) The individual Layers are listed in the Objects / Layers window. Layers are listed in reverse order, i.e. layers towards the back of the composite image are shown at the top of the list, whereas layers towards the front of the image are shown at the bottom. In this example, the photos are further back and the 'play buttons' are towards the front. Objects / Layers Window Adjusting the order of Layers To move a layer forwards (i.e. to move it towards the front of the layer stack), click the layer in the Objects / Layers window and drag it towards the bottom of the list. Alternatively, click on the image or object to be moved forwards, and on the Tool panel's Layers menu, click Bring Forward or Bring to Front. To move a layer backwards (i.e. to move it towards the rear of the layer stack), click the layer in the Objects / Layers window and drag it towards the top of the list. Alternatively, click on the image or object to be moved backwards, and on the Tool panel's Layers menu, click Send Backward or Send to Back. Deleting Layers To delete a layer, right-click the layer on the Objects / Layers window and click Delete. Alternatively, click on the image or object to be deleted, and click the Cut icon or press the DELETE key. Locking / Unlocking Layers 47

Using Photo Editor Each layer can be either 'locked' or 'unlocked'. A locked layer cannot be moved or rotated, whereas an unlocked layer can. To toggle locking for a layer, click the Lock icon next to the layer in the Objects / Layers window. Working with Text Photo Editor enables you to add (or edit) text appearing along with your images.
