Human Anatomy and Physiology Grades 10-12 1 credit
The course is offered for students interested in a career in the field of health and medicine. The student will learn the basics of anatomy and physiology, infection control, medical terminology, disease process and prevention. This course provides the core instruction for all health occupation programs. This course meets Michigan Standards for Science credit and online experience which is required for graduation. Medical Occupations I Grades 11-12 1 credit Prerequisite: Must have had a C or better in Human Anatomy and Physiology Classroom work and lab practice are combined to provide instruction in basic health care skills such as vital signs, body mechanics, medical terminology, infection control and certification by the American Heart Association in CPR. This class includes actual work experience at a local hospital in nursing, x-ray, laboratory, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, oncology, emergency room, and other specialty areas. This course meets Michigan Standards for Science credit. Advanced Medical Occupations Grades 12 1 credit Prerequisite: Must have had a C or better in both Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Occupations I. This class is designed for the student who is serious about a career in health care. Students will be placed in independent work experience sites in the community in such areas as physical therapy, doctors offices, dental offices, chiropractic care, medical laboratories or veterinary offices. Students will also be required to complete a number of independent projects related to their area of career interest. This course meets Michigan Standards for Science credit. Co-operative Work Experience Grade 12 1/2-1 credit Students who find employment in the health care field may receive co-operative work experience credit. To qualify, a student must be enrolled in one of the Medical Occupations classes and be a senior in good standing for graduation.
