Merchants would find NETS wireless terminals suitable because: Provides payment at the consumer s convenience Lower fees as compared to other payment modes Reduces costs and risks of cash management Access to our huge customer base (NETS) Innovative and exciting way to pay 2. What is the difference between a wireless terminal and normal NETS LAN-based terminal? Wireless terminals use GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) to communicate. Normal NETS terminals communicate with NETS backend using normal telephone landlines. As GPRS is a mobile technology, it means that NETS terminals can now be used anywhere that there is a GPRS network. 3. What is GPRS? GPRS, or General Packet Radio Service, is a radio technology for GSM networks that adds packet-switching protocols, shorter set-up time for ISP connections, and offer the possibility to charge by amount of data sent rather than connect time. GPRS promises to support flexible data transmission rates typically up to 20 or 30 Kbps (with a theoretical maximum of 171.2 Kbps), as well as continuous connection to the network. A 2.5G enhancement to GSM, GPRS is the most significant step towards 3G, needing similar business model, and service and network architectures. 4. Is NETS transaction on a wireless terminal same as the LANbased terminals that I see in retail shops? 5. Is a power supply required? The consumer experience is exactly the same (card swipe + PIN entry). Merchants with this service can now accept NETS payments from consumers anywhere they wish without being literally teetered to a telephone line. NETS wireless terminals are meant to be fully portable when charged. Depending on the merchant s business requirements, there are different terminal models available. The battery of the terminal functions similarly to a mobile phone, with X hours of standby time and Y hours of usage time. If full portability is not required, a 3-pin power plug can be plugged in to ensure uninterrupted power supply. 6. Is a land-based telephone line required? 7. Can the NETS CashCard and other services be used? No, a land-based telephone line is not required. NETS CashCard is accepted on all wireless terminals. We are currently upgrading the wireless terminals software to accept NETS FlashPay. In addition, value-added services such as China UnionPay etc can be loaded into the terminals.
8. Is there a cost to the consumer for using NETS services on the No, there is no charge to consumers for using the NETS Services on the wireless terminals. 9. Is there a cost to the merchant for using 10. What do merchants have to pay? What are the Subscription and Transaction Fee? Merchants who wish to provide the convenience of NETS payments to consumers anytime, anywhere would need to pay a monthly subscription fee and a variable transaction fee. Daily rentals for temporary terminals are also available. The following fees and charges for permanent and temporary terminal(s) are applicable. Permanent Terminal Monthly Subscription Fee of $38 per terminal. Monthly Transaction Fee calculated in accordance with the rates as shown in the table below. Consolidated NETS Debit, NETS CashCard and NETS FlashPay transactions on a monthly basis Transaction Fee (as a Percentage of monthly Turnover) On the first S$20,000 0.80% On the next S$30,000 0.75% On the next S$50,000 0.70% On the next S$150,000 0.65% On the amount exceeding S$250,000 0.60% Monthly Subscription Fee of $10 per Sim Card. Temporary Terminal Daily Subscription Fee of $10 per terminal or Monthly Subscription fee of $120 per terminal Daily / Monthly Transaction Fee calculated in accordance with the rates as shown in the table above. Subscription Fee of $30 per Sim Card. (One-Time Charge) One-time Terminal Installation / Retrieval Charges. (Refer to Point 11 for more details) GPRS Charges Permanent Terminal $10 Monthly Subscription Fee per Sim Card Temporary Terminal $30 Subscription fee per Sim Card (One-Time Charge) 5MB (5,120Kb) of data is approximately 10,000 transactions per month or 333 transactions per day. If auto-roaming is required, NETS will enable on a case-by-case basis. Auto-roaming charges are fully borne by merchants. 11. What is the one-time terminal installation charge? There is a one-time terminal installation charge based on the table below: Transportation per trip $30 Service charge per terminal $10 A charge of S$30 is payable if installation is unsuccessful when the cause is due to unreadiness of the power-point/outlet. 12. What is the deposit for permanent / temporary terminal? New NETS merchants would need to put up a refundable deposit of $200 for the terminal(s). A crossed cheque for the deposit should be made payable to NETS and is to be submitted with application. The deposit is refundable upon termination. An administration fee of S$10 will be charged if the cheque cannot be cleared. Existing merchants (who already has a deposit with NETS) when applying for additional terminal(s) will not need to put up this deposit. 13. What do merchants need to submit during application? New merchants will need to submit the following documents at the point of application: Signed Application Form Service Provider Agreement Direct Debit Authorisation (DDA) Form Crossed cheque of $200 made payable to NETS as a deposit for the terminals. Existing merchants will need to submit the signed Application Form.
14. How do merchants pay the monthly fees? Merchants need to have a company bank account with DBS, UOB or OCBC. The Direct Debit Authorisation (DDA) Form will allow NETS to process the monthly fees automatically on the 20th of the following month upon the installation of the terminal(s). 15. When will merchants receive the transaction amounts for the day? 16. Will NETS apply for the GPRS service on my behalf? 17. Can merchants use their consumer GSM or GPRS SIM cards? All transaction amounts will be credited to the designated bank account on the next working day. Yes, NETS will apply for the GPRS service on your company s behalf. No, the consumer GSM or GPRS SIM card cannot be used in any NETS wireless terminals. NETS wireless terminals can only work with NETSsupplied GPRS SIM cards. NETS has ensured that the security and quality of service is a priority for our wireless terminals, and has worked with the telecommunications companies to ensure this. 18. How long will merchants applications take? For new application, the process will take approximately 10 working days which include sending the relevant documents for banks approval. Upon approval of the verified documents, NETS will install the new terminal(s) in 7 working days. For existing NETS merchant applying for new terminal(s), upon receiving the relevant documents, NETS will install the new terminal(s) in 3 working days. 19. How do merchants pay the monthly fees to the teleco companies? 20. Will training be provided on how to use the terminal? 21. Are there any fees if merchants cancel the application or terminate the service? NETS will provide a single-invoice billing for the convenience of our merchants. Yes, NETS has scheduled training session(s) if you require them. Training is conducted at NETS office. Yes, a fee of $30 per terminal will be imposed if the application is withdrawn or cancelled before the terminal(s) is installed or for permanent terminals termination of service is made before the expiry of six months from the date of approval of the application. Retrieval charges for terminals are also applicable: Transportation per trip $30 Service charge per terminal $10 There will be a service charge of $10 per terminal for self-returned terminals. NETS will also terminate the merchant s GPRS service.
22. Are the charges subject to GST? With the exception of the deposit, all the above charges are subject to GST. 23. Will NETS provide receipt paper rolls? Yes, 3 rolls of receipt paper per terminal will be provided free during the installation of the terminal(s). Subsequent receipt paper can be procured at your own cost via NETS authorized suppliers. 24. Where can I get more information?
