The Pennsylvania Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (PACES) has prepared this second edition of the directory to identify those colleges and universities in the state that prepare masters level Counselors eligible for licensure in the state as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). This information is designed to promote counselor preparation in Pennsylvania and to aid students, faculty, and other interested parties with questions about the preparation of LPCs in the state. Every effort was made to verify that the information in this directory is accurate. Several institutions in the state do not have detailed information about their programs in this directory so consequently, readers will need to contact those institutions to learn more about their programs. The Pennsylvania Association for Counselor Education and Supervision The Pennsylvania Association of Counselor Education & Supervision (PACES) is a division of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association (PCA) for professional counselors who engage in professional counseling teaching and research (a.k.a. "counselor education") and/or clinical supervision. It is the state division of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), which is a division of the American Counseling Association. PACES provides counselor educators and clinical supervisors opportunities to network, to participate in professional development activities, and to socialize! More specifically, PACES' purpose is... to advance counselor education and clinical supervision, in accordance with the purpose of the PCA, in order to improve counseling and student development services in all settings of society to address and promote in Pennsylvania the interests of: o Professional counselors who serve as counselor educators in institutions of higher learning; o Professional counselors who are engaged in performing the duties of a clinical supervisor of professional counselors; o Professional counseling graduate students who are preparing to become counselor educators and/or clinical supervisors. 5 Directory Format The format of this directory includes data to assist individuals in learning more about the Counselor Preparation Programs in Pennsylvania that prepare graduate students for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. Institutions are arranged in alphabetical order for the reader s convenience. Data on each institution begins with the contact information for the institution and a faculty member who can serve as a resource and provide more information about the program. Program information follows that identifies professional accreditation and program emphasis. The Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is the national accrediting body of graduate counseling programs. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) accredits Pennsylvania School Counseling Programs. The Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) is the national accrediting body of masters level psychology training programs. The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) is the national accrediting body of graduate rehabilitation counseling training programs. The program emphasis, and in some instances multiple emphases, are identified so that readers may see specific areas of education and training within each institution leading to LPC licensure. The program emphasis of Counselor Education includes the specialty areas of Community Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, College Counseling, Marriage & Family, and School Counseling. The program emphasis of Creative Arts includes the specialty areas of Music Therapy, Art Therapy, and Dance/ Movement Therapy. Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Human Services are the remaining program emphases that institutions can identify for their counselor preparation programs.

6 The next type of data provided reports each counselor preparation program that ascribes to and teaches the Ethical Codes of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), if the institution has a chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (the national honor society for Professional Counseling), the types of graduate degrees and certificates (masters degrees, post-graduate certificates, and doctoral degrees) in program emphases described earlier, and the total credits required for the degrees and postgraduate certificates. Next, programs reported which qualifying exams they prepare students to take for LPC licensure: National Counselor Examination (NCE), Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) Board Certification Exam, the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Exam, (Northamerican Association of Masters in Psychology Practice Exam of Psychological Knowledge (NAMP), Art Therapy Credentialing Board (ATCB) Certification Exam, Advanced Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Counselor Examination (AAODA) given by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Inc., and the Examination for Masters Addictions Counselors (EMAC). Finally, professional counseling affiliations of the faculty in each counselor preparation program are identified including membership in: the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), other ACA Divisions, the Pennsylvania Counseling Association (PCA), the Pennsylvania Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (PACES) and other PCA Divisions.
