PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES PLANNING EC-DIGISOIL PROJECT KOM Paris, Sept 25-26 th, 2008
Galileo Avionica - Space & Electro-Optics B.U. INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY STARTING FAR AWAY Since 1864 G. Battista Amici, astronomer in Florence, establishes the first laboratory of optical manufacturing in Italy, TODAY Electro-Optical technology installed on board of satellites, airplanes, ship, surface vehicles, for observation and target identification (objects, physical elements) in all wheather and day/night conditions. GALILEO Avionica, a Finmeccanica Company, is operating in the avionic and space sectors since the early sixties, developing products for research and application Programmes.

SIM.GA Avionic Hyperspectral Imager MODULARITY SIM.GA is a Suite of sensors to be configured depending on application and platform: VNIR hyper-spectral sensor (0.4 1.0 micron) SWIR hyper-spectral sensor (1.0-2.5 micron) Panchromatic camera MIR multi-spectral sensor TIR multi-spectral sensor FLEXIBILITY SIM.GA can be accommodated on board of different platforms: Airplanes (manned or unmanned) Ground based tripod. (GPS/INS integrated on the optical head avoids the need of stabilised platform). APPLICABILITY SIM.GA is intended to serve several applications: Environment (geology, water quality, pollution, fires ) Homeland Security Military (automatic reconnaissance, targeting)
Status of Development Two prototypes available, including: VNIR hyper-spectral channel SWIR hyper-spectral channel Panchromatic camera GPS/INS Onboard electronics Electronics rack including power distribution, computer, memory mass Optical head mounted on platform for stand-off use

SIM.GA HYPER First Flight SIM.GA 1st flight 15 Dec. 2005 The system was embarked on a CASA 212 plane and flown over Tuscany coastal area. Contemporary on-ground reference measurements were carried out for data validation and calibration. SIM.GA 2nd flight July-August 2006 The system was embarked on a Light Aircraft Allegro 2000 and flown on Lazio and Tuscany summer wildfires. The campaign was carried out under the ESA- AIRFIRE program). SIM.GA April-September 2007 The system was embarked on a CASA 212-220 plane and flown over Spain and Boredeaux (F) areas. The campaign was carried out under the ESA- CEFLES2 program).
