Eaton Hybrid Programs Electric Hybrids ( HEV ) Hydraulic Hybrids ( HHV ) Eaton has concentrated on building parallel hybrid electric systems, as they provide the best balance between costs and benefits with this technology. FedEx Express has incorporated the Eaton HEV into their fleet. We are also working with UPS, Coca Cola, and others. Eaton has active programs on both Parallel and Series hydraulic hybrid systems. Demonstrating the performance and reliability of HHV parallel systems is the first step toward market acceptance of series hydraulic hybrids.
Eaton Hybrid Programs Eaton has hybrid electric and hybrid hydraulic systems. There are significant worldwide market opportunities for both.
What is the Eaton HLA System? Parallel hydraulic regenerative braking system. Fluid Reservoir N 2 High-pressure Accumulator Hydraulic Pum p/motor = Energy Flow
Why Use Hydraulics? Captures most available energy Immediately. Rapid & controllable energy transfer rate.
Why Use Hydraulics? High power to size / weight density. Installation & Packaging options
Why Use Hydraulics? Low maintenance system. long life pump/motor design. NO major lifetime replacements.
Why Use Hydraulics? Leverage Globally Proven technologies.
Why Now? Significant Developments by Eaton in key areas: Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).
Why Now? Significant Developments by Eaton in key areas: Reduction of External leakage Paths.
Why Now? Significant Developments by Eaton in key areas: Pump, Motor and System Efficiency
Why Now? Significant Developments by Eaton in key areas: Electronics and Electro-hydraulic controls
Market Drivers Energy capture: Hydraulic hybrids can capture upto 70% of kinetic energy Driveline torque: ~20% faster acceleration Fuel economy: improvements 20-30%. Emissions reduction: ~20% CO 2 and 17% NO x. Maintenance costs: More than doubles vehicle brake life.
