Traces The Pays Beaunois contains many traces of its past in the famous monuments of the past that we can visit and the remains preserved by Man. History leaves its traces The Hôtel Dieu and the ramparts are reminders of 15th Century Beaune. In the surrounding area, the Middle Ages can be seen in our fortresses and abbeys. The centuries roll on, their story told by the wine châteaux, manor houses, etc. Major events Les Chemins de Lumières à Beaune (Light Trails) in Beaune (April, July, August, wine auction and December) Reminders of a cultural heritage This heritage may be found in a meurger (pile of stones) or a cabotte (stone hut); the past comes to life in the walls of the old Burgundy houses, the follies, wash-houses and cellars: you ll find plenty of surprises on your walks. Local people Wine, gastronomy and other delights There are many events throughout the year, from the famous Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction and Saint-Vincent Tournante to more modest happenings. The winegrowers come together for the occasion, private cellars and major wine houses open their doors, walks are arranged, the brotherhoods organise banquets and there s plenty of activity and entertainment for children and adults alike. Cultural diary The Pays Beaunois has always been closely linked to wine, but it s also a great supporter of the Arts, hosting music, film and sculpture festivals and much more besides Anne Blanchard My family roots and my love of music prompted me to set up a Baroque Opera Festival in one of the finest architectural sites: the Hospices de Beaune.
