ICC-ES Legacy Report BOCA-21-86.01 Reissued September 2016 This report is subject to renewal September 2017. www.icc-es.org (800) 423-6587 (562) 699-0543 A Subsidiary of the International Code Council Legacy report on the BOCA National Building Code/1999 DIVISION: 06 WOOD AND PLASTICS Section: 060523 WOOD, PLASTIC, AND COMPOSITE FASTENINGS HOLDER: EDMAR MANUFACTURING INC. 526 EAST 64 TH STREET HOLLAND, MICHIGAN 49423 www.edmarmfg.com EVALUATION SUBJECT: EMI 14 INCH AND 22 INCH ANCHOR STRAPS 1.0 EVALUATION SCOPE Compliance with the following code: BOCA National Building Code/1999 Section 106.4 Alternative materials and equipment Section 1604.0 Design safe load Section 2305.17 Foundation anchorage 2.0 DESCRIPTION EMI Anchor Straps are alternatives to 1 / 2 -inch-diameter (12.7 mm) anchor bolts used to anchor nominal 2-by-4-inch and 2-by-6-inch (51 102 mm and 51 152 mm) wood sill plates to cast-in-place concrete and grouted concrete masonry unit foundations. The anchor straps are split at one end, into two lengths, to enable the straps to be secured to opposite sides of a wood sill plate. These two lengths are pre-punched with two rows of 0.136-inchdiameter (3.5 mm) holes. The other end contains a 90 degree bend which is embedded into the concrete or concrete masonry unit foundation. EMI Anchor Straps are manufactured from 18 gauge, 0.045-inch-thick (1.1 mm) CRS 1008/1010 steel complying with SAE J403, with a minimum yield strength of 35.4 ksi (244 MPa) and a tensile strength of 51.6 ksi (356 MPa), and are coated with a minimum of G60 galvanizing complying with ASTM A924. The straps are 1 1 / 4 -inch-wide (32 mm), with lengths of 13.64 inches (347 mm) or 21.5 inches (546 mm). The 13.64-inch-long (347 mm) anchor strap is used in cast-in-place concrete, and the 21.5-inchlong (546 mm) anchor strap is used in grouted masonry. Nominal embedment depth of the 13.64-inch-long (347 mm) anchor straps, in cast-in-place concrete, is 9 inches (229 mm). Nominal embedment depth of the 21.5-inch-long (546 mm) anchor straps, in grouted masonry, is 17 inches (432 mm). A minimum of (3) 8d sinker nails shall be installed in each length of the anchor to fasten it to the wood sill plate. For each length of the two strap legs, two of the nails shall be placed in the side of the sill plate and one nail shall be placed in the top of the sill plate. See Figures 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b and 2c of this report for installation diagrams of the anchor straps. See Tables 1 and 2 of this report for allowable design loads and spacing requirements for the strap anchors. 3.0 CONDITIONS OF USE This report is limited to the applications and products as stated in this report. The ICC-ES Subcommittee on National Codes intends that the report be used by the code official to determine that the report subject complies with the code requirements specifically addressed, provided that this product is installed in accordance with the following conditions: Edmar Manufacturing Inc. EMI 14 and 22 inch (356 and 559 mm) Anchor Straps shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer s published installation instructions and this report. The manufacturer s published installation instructions shall be available at all times on the jobsite during installation. The manufacturer s published installation instructions shall be available to the building department upon request. Where the manufacturer s published installation instructions differ from this report, this report shall be null and void. EMI 14 inch (356 mm) anchor straps shall be limited to use in cast-in-place concrete and shall have a nominal embedment length of 9 inches (229 mm). EMI 22 inch (559 mm) anchor straps shall be limited to use in grouted masonry and shall have a nominal embedment length of 17 inches (432 mm). Allowable design loads for the EMI 14 inch and 22 inch (356 and 559 mm) Anchor Straps shall not exceed those given in Table 1 of this report. Maximum anchor spacing shall be consistent with Table 2 of this report. Design values indicated in this report are based on solid sawn wood sill plates with a minimum specific gravity of 0.42 and a maximum moisture content of 19%. Design of the wood sill plate and building foundation is outside the scope of this report ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are not to be construed as representing aesthetics or any other attributes not specifically addressed, nor are they to be construed as an endorsement of the subject of the report or a recommendation for its use.
