INTRODUCTION Your Lenovo network storage device includes a default home page. You can create a custom home page for your Lenovo network storage device to include html pages and client-side scripting, such as JavaScript. In addition, there are applications available on http://www.lifelineapps.com that can enhance your home page content. This paper describes how to create a custom home page for your storage device. AUDIENCE Information contained in this paper is intended for Lenovo customers, partners, and service personnel involved in planning, deploying, or administering a Lenovo network storage device. TERMINOLOGY MySQL: an open source relational database management system (RDBMS). Web server: the hardware or software that helps to deliver web content that can be accessed through the Internet. ENABLING A CUSTOM HOME PAGE You add your custom html content to a Share on your Lenovo storage device and then specify its location on the Home Page Settings page. Note: This procedure assumes that you have already created a Share and added html content to that Share. 1. Click the Home Page Settings feature on your storage device management console. 2. On the Home Page Settings page, be sure the home page feature is turned on. 3. Select Customized home page settings. 1
4. In the Home Page Name field, enter the name of the start page of your custom page. By default, the name is index.html. 5. Specify the destination Share where the start page and your html content exist on your storage device by clicking and navigating to the Share. 6. Click Apply. 7. Click View Home page to open the new home page for your storage device. 2
ADDING WEBMYSQLSERVER TO YOUR STORAGE DEVICE The WebMySQLServer application is a software bundle consisting of MySQL Server and PHP that you can use for developing web applications that run on a Lenovo network storage device. It is available for download from www.lifelineapps.com. 1. After downloading WebMySQLServer to your Lenovo storage device, you upload it to your device using Application Manager. In the management console of your Lenovo network storage device, access the Application Manager feature. 2. On the Application Manager page, click Add application and in the Add Application dialog box, browse to the location of the WebMySQLServer file you downloaded. The file has a.tgz extension. Click Upload in the Add Application dialog box. WebMySQLServer uploads to your storage device. 3
DEPLOYING DYNAMIC WEBSITES ON YOUR STORAGE DEVICE If you want to add interactive or dynamic components to your home page, you can use both PHP and the MySQL Server database that are included in the WebMySQLServer application. To display a dynamic web site on your storage device: Develop web content with PHP and MySQL. On the Home Page Settings page, select Customized home page settings Select Customized home page settings. In the Home Page Name field, enter the name of the start page of your php/mysql-based web site. By default, the name is index.html. Click View Home page or type the IP address of your storage device in your browser to open the new custom home page. 4
MANAGING MYSQL SERVER ON YOUR STORAGE DEVICE 1. Open the MySQL Server feature page. The MySQL Database Configuration page allows users various options with configuring a MySQL data base: Start Server Start the SQL server. Stop Server Stops the SQL server. Restart Server Restarts the server. Reset MySQL root user password Resets root password to mysql. MySQL Data Directory Sets the Share to store MySQL database info. 5
