Glimpses from the Sports Field ANNUAL SPORTS MEET (2015-16) The DAV Public School, East of Loni Road gives completeness to education with sports, as sports renders the child s personality a holistic development, complementing academic achievements and excellence as it strengthens & rejuvenates the body & the mind, the two important assets of a student. In keeping with this essential need of the learner, the DAV Public School, East Of Loni Road, as every year, celebrated its Annual Sports Meet for the session 2015-16 from 27 January to 30 January, 2016, during which a number of sports events & cultural programs were organized that bore evidence to the healthy opportunity provided to the students of the school for a complete participation & exploration of their capabilities in sports. The occasion was also an ideal platform to take up the theme of a clean & healthy India ( ; ), as cleanliness is synonymous to fitness & health & so is as important a limb of education as sports is to academics. 27 January,2016 marked the opening ceremony of the sports meet. Gracing the occasion were the chief guest IPS, ACP North East & a proud DAV ALUMNI, Shri Sanjeev Lamba & his colleague SHO Jyoti Nagar Mr.Ramesh whose presence was encouraging and enlightened, inspired & blessed our sports enthusiasts..

The ceremony began with the auspicious DAV Gaan & lightening of the lamp by the chief guest & other eminent guests. The March Past followed with the Arravali, Himgiri, Nilgiri, & Vindhyachal houses offering their salute to the chief guest, with the accompaniment of the school band that boosted up the spirits of the marchers. After the march past, our madam principal & manager of the school Shri Nanak Chand offered a warm welcome to the chief guest & other eminent guests with potted plants & shawls, as tokens of our respect. This was followed by a patriotic song by tiny tots Yeh Desh Hamara Hai The other programmes included self defense & the races of various classes.

The proud winners of the sports events were given away the prizes by the chief guest.28 th and 29 th were full of some more sports events such as Balloon obstacle race for Pre school, Rabbit run for Pre -primary, Balloon break for class I, Hurdle race for classes II,III & IV, Relay race for classes V & VI, Basketball & Kho- Kho match for senior classes. 30 th January, 2016 being the grand finale to the ceremony of the Annual sports Meet, 2015-16,the programme began with the DAV Gaan that enlivened the souls of the listeners with a zest & zeal to achieve something new & wonderous for the nation. The school took inspiration from the song to take up the challenge of a Swacch Bharat, as propounded by the father of the nation Gandhiji, who said, Be the change you want to see in the world around you as is also the target of the modern and newly awakened India. Gracing the occasion on this day were the chief guest Regional Director of Education East Zone Ms Usha Kumari, DDE - Zone VI Mr. Kaushik and principals of DAV sister schools and manager of our school Mr. Nanak Chand.

They were extended a warm welcome by madam principal & manager sir with potted plants, which are as rightly said, The first temples of God. This was followed by a dance by tiny tots- Khelein. Through the various games that they played on the spot, on the tunes and rhythm of the song, they depicted the concept of a true sportsman taking life as seriously and as joyfully as a game.winning or losing does not matter, what matters is to outrun ourselves and to overcome our shortcomings. Then moving with music, in rhythm with a spirit of joy & celebration of all that is healthy & positive, moving in pace with the changing times to meet the challenges of life fearlessly & confidently, determined & focused on their dreams & goals were the students performing aerobics.

Nothing is now impossible said the students, after this, as they danced to the tunes of the song Aashaien. They filled their audience with the blessings, divinity, rejuvenation & strength in the magical elixir of hope. This was followed by the performance of yogic asanas, the worship of those movements, in the temple of the body, that are life giving, healing, energizing and cheering, miraculous in their impact on our life.

Self Defense is not far from a design of nature itself which provides a self-defense mechanism within a system. Defending oneself in today s challenging scenario is imperative for complete protection & self- sufficiency. The girls presented with enthusiasm & vigour the steps of self- defense as trained by the Delhi Police. With this, madam principal Mrs. Sameeksha Sharma shared a few words of wisdom & also thanked the eminent guests for devoting their precious time to bless & encourage our students & staff. In her vibrant speech, which followed, the chief guest was highly appreciative of the performance of the school & its team efforts in particular.

Performance of the Rajasthani folk dance came up next, with relay races for girls & boys of various classes, after which there was prize distribution. The Best House Award went to Himgiri House for the Year. The proud winners of matches at the District,State & National Levels for the year were also rewarded with track suits and cash prizes. The coaches for self defense from Delhi Police Mr. Rakesh & Mr. Ramesh were also appreciated for their sincere efforts & guidance. The event was a grand success as all the visitors, our chief guest & other eminent guests, parents & well wishers, whose appreciation & encouragement really matter, had only words of praise for all the enthusiasm, spirit & confidence that was on display. Finally, the message that came across to everyone was, The foundation of disciplines is rooted in the discipline & cleanliness of the body, mind & surroundings. The ceremony came to a close with the national anthem.
