PHYSIOTHERAPISTS BOARD Guidelines for Consideration of Quotable Qualifications The List of Quotable Qualifications ( the List ) is maintained by the Physiotherapists Board. Qualifications for inclusion in the List are approved by the Board on the recommendation of the Board Registration Committee. These guidelines are set out to facilitate the processing of applications for inclusion in the List. Objectives of quotable qualifications 1. The objectives of quotable qualifications are:- (a) (b) (c) (d) To give recognition to the basic physiotherapy education required for registration as a physiotherapist in Hong Kong. To give recognition to further training which significantly enhances the professional expertise of physiotherapists. To provide information to the public as to the additional physiotherapy training of significance received by physiotherapists. To provide information to physiotherapists as to additional physiotherapy training of significance received by other physiotherapists to facilitate decisions on referral of patients. Factors to be considered for quotable qualifications 2. The following factors are basic requirements which must be fulfilled before a qualification is considered for inclusion in the List:- (a) A qualification should satisfy fully the spirit of the provisions of the Code of Practice regarding communication in professional practice. (b) A basic physiotherapy qualification recognized for registration is quotable.
(c) The programme leading to a quotable post-graduate qualification should be:- (i) (ii) (iii) directly related to physiotherapy practice; of a standard accepted by the Board; and of at least 6 months of full-time structured and supervised training or study (part-time or distance learning courses may be accepted if in the opinion of the Board the duration and quality of training are equivalent to a 6 month full-time course). (d) The qualification should be acquired after formal assessment by a recognized physiotherapy body. Alternatively, the qualification should be independently vetted (e.g. by external examiners) by a recognized physiotherapy body. 3. For the purposes of these guidelines, a recognized physiotherapy body means a tertiary education institution which provides physiotherapy education recognized by the Board to be of an equivalent standard to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 4. An application for inclusion of a qualification in the List will not be considered before the completion of the programme leading to the qualification. 5. Honorary higher physiotherapy qualifications conferred by a recognized physiotherapy body will generally be accepted for inclusion in the List. Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or doctoral degrees which are directly relevant to the physiotherapy profession as conferred by a recognized academic institution are quotable. No prior approval from the Board is required. 6. Registration with a registration body or membership of a professional association in respect of the physiotherapy profession in a country which is a member of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy is quotable. 7.
