Figure Introduction In this document you will find information about the SSDC-4W, see figure. The SSDC-4Wis an RS- to RS-45 interface converter with the following features:?? The RS- side is isolated from the RS-45 side?? Maximum data rate is 5 Kbit/sec.?? The RS-45 side can be configured to operate in -wire (half-duplex) or 4-wire (full-duplex) mode?? Termination resistors for the RS-45 interface can be activated by installing jumpers?? The RS-45 interface is equipped with surge protectors?? Wide supply voltage range ( to 0 VDC)?? Diagnostic LED s show the status of Rx, Tx and power supply voltage?? The converter will work in -wire mode without the need of switching the RTS signal. Connector Layout 9-Pole Sub-D (RS-) On the SSDC-4Wyou will find a female 9-pole Sub-D connector for the RS- interface. The SSDC-4Wacts as a DCE so a one-to-one cable is needed if the converter is to be connected to a PC. The connector layout is as follows: Pin Number Signal Name Remark Direction Not used RxD Data received by the converter (from the RS-45 interface) To the computer TxD Data to be transmitted by the converter (to the RS-45 interface) From the computer 4 DTR Internally connected to pin From the computer 5 Signal Ground DSR Internally connected to pin 4 To the computer RTS Internally connected to pin From the computer CTS Internally connected to pin To the computer 9 Not used Connector Layout RS-45 Side Pin Number Signal Name Remark -way 4-way Tx+ Rx+ Tx- Rx- Tx+ 4 Tx- 5 RS-45 side +VCC Supply voltage -0 VDC Ground Ground power supply Pin is located nearest the Red and Green LED. Configuring the SSDC-4W Depending on the type of connection and number of converters, the unit needs to be configured. This is done by placing jumpers which are located inside the converter. To get access to these jumpers you have to open the unit by removing 4 screws on the RS- side of the converter. See figure. This also makes it possible to remove the mounting brackets if you don t need them. Figure Location of the jumpers. Figure Figure 4 shows the function for the various jumpers. In the converters located at the end of the network terminator resistors must be activated. Default Jumper Setting The converter is shipped with the jumpers placed as shown in figure 5. This means configured for operating in a -wire mode and the terminator resistor activated. Figure 5 User Manual SSDC-4W Page 4 of 4 Release.
