Course Selections by Major Guide The purpose of this guide is to provide you with the courses and number of credits that are already pre-scheduled for your major and to help you determine how many more credits are needed to complete your fall schedule request. Students that are listed as fully scheduled do not participate in the online survey, unless otherwise noted. Please find your major that is listed below. Review your major s pre-scheduled course selections and credits needed to complete your schedule. Make sure you review your GCC Major Status Sheet, Course Selection Tips, and the New Student Guides link for more resource information. All students are pre-scheduled for either Huma 102: Biblical Revelations or Writ 101: Foundations of Writing Discourse for 3 credits and Phye 101 or 111: Men s or Women s Fitwell for 1 credit. (1 credit = 1 hour). You are permitted a maximum of 18 credit hours for the fall semester of your freshman year. The 18 th credit will be assessed an additional charge (see Tuition and Expenses). There are also additional fees for art classes and music lessons. Major Course Selections Accounting majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 9 credits of major-required courses). The major-required courses include: Acct 201; either Busa 203 or Busa 204; and either Econ 101 or Econ 102. Accounting majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or a general education, general elective, or a major-required course. Tip: Busa 201, Math 141, or Foundations courses are possible choices. Accounting/Finance majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 9 credits of major-required courses). The major-required courses include: Acct 201; either Busa 203 or Busa 204; and either Econ 101 or Econ 102. Accounting majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or a general education, general elective, or a major-required course. The major-required courses include: Biol 101 with lab and Chem 101 with lab. Tip: If you are ready for Math 161: Calculus I, please mark your choice under the Quantitative Section of the survey. Math 111: Precalculus is a preparatory course for Calculus I. 1

Biblical & Religious Studies majors are pre-scheduled for 7 credits (3 credits of Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, and one major-required course: Reli 211). Biblical Studies majors typically add another religion course for 3 credits, leaving around 6-7 more credits to schedule. Students in the major will fill the remaining part of their schedule with a language (if needed) and a mixture of general education and/or general elective credits. Business Economics majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, and 9 credits of major-required courses). The major-required courses include: Acct 201; either Busa 203 or Busa 204; and either Econ 101 or Econ 102. Business Economics majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed), general education, general elective courses, or a major-required course. Tip: Busa 201: Business Statistics, Math 141: Business Calculus are possible choices. Communication Studies majors typically fill the remaining 5-7 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or general education, general elective courses. Computer Information Systems majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 9 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Comp 102, Comp 155, and Econ 101. Computer Information Systems majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or general education, general elective courses. Computer Science majors are fully scheduled at 16 credits and do not participate in the online survey (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 12 hours of major-required courses). The major-required courses include: Comp 155, Phys 101: General Physics I with lab and Math 161: Calculus I. 2

Economics majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 9 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Econ 101 or Econ 102, Econ 120 and Phil 161. Economics majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or general education, general elective courses. Tip: Busa 201: Business Statistics, Math 141: Business Calculus, are possible choices. Electrical Engineering majors are fully scheduled at 17 credits and do not participate in the online survey (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 13 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Comp 141: Computer Programming I, Engineering 156: Introduction to Engineering, Math 161: Calculus I, and Phys 101: General Physics I with lab. English majors are pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 hours of major-required courses). The major-required courses are Engl 201 and another 3 credit English course. English majors typically fill remaining 6 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or general education, general elective courses. English Sec. Ed or English Comm. Sec. Ed majors are pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 hours of major-required courses). Major-required courses include Engl 201 and either Hist 204 or Educ 202. English majors typically fill remaining 6 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) another major-required course, or a general education course. Entrepreneurship majors are pre-scheduled for 14 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 10 hours of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Entr 101; Entr 102; Busa 204, and Econ 101. Entrepreneur majors typically fill the remaining 3 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or Acct 201: Principles of Accounting I. Foundations courses and general education/general elective courses are also good choices. Exercise Science majors are pre-scheduled for 8 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 4 credits of major-required courses). The major-required courses are: 4 credits of Biol 101 with lab. Exer 101 may be taken in the fall or spring. A statistics course is a recommendation: Math 201 or Busa 201. Additional courses may include a language (if needed) or general education/general elective courses. Exercise Science Health Professions Option) majors are pre-scheduled for 14 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 10 credits of major-required courses). The majorrequired courses are: Exer 101 and Biol 101 with lab. Health profession students may wish to take Phys 121: College Physics if ready to do so. Additional courses may include a language (if needed) or general education/general elective courses. Tip: You may want to stay at 14 credits for the fall term. Finance majors are fully scheduled for 16 credits but will also participate in the online survey (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 12 credits of major-required courses). The major-required courses include: Acct 201; Busa 203 or Busa 204; Econ 101 or Econ 102; and Busa 211: Finance majors may delay Busa 211 if an intermediate language level is needed. The introductory language level may wait until the sophomore year. 3

French majors are pre-scheduled for 3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111. French majors should review the French guidelines at the new student web link, determine the level of their French experience, and note the appropriate course(s). You are encouraged to contact the French resource professor as listed at the New Student link. French majors typically fill remaining 12-13 credits of their schedule with major-required courses or general education, general elective courses. French Sec. Ed majors are pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include either Hist 204 or Educ 202; Psyc 102 or Comp 204. French majors should review the French guidelines at the new student website, determine the level of their French experience, and note the appropriate course(s). You are encouraged to contact the French resource professor as listed at the New Student link. French majors typically fill remaining 6-7 credits of their schedule with major-required courses or general education, general elective courses. History majors are pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Hist 143 and another 3 credit history course. History majors typically fill the remaining 5-6 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) or general education, general elective courses. History Sec. Ed majors are pre-scheduled for 13 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 9 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Hist 143, another 3 credit history course, plus either Hist 204 or Educ 202. Hist Sec. Ed majors typically fill remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) and another major-required course. Industrial Management majors are fully scheduled at 16 credits and do not participate in the online survey (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 12 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Math 161, Phys 101 with lab, and Chem 105. International Business majors typically fill the remaining 3-4 credits of their schedule with either major-required or general education courses: Tip: Busa 201 or Math 141 are possible choices. Marketing Management majors are pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Busa 204 and either Econ 101 or Econ 102. Marketing Management majors typically fill the remaining 6-7 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) and major-required, general education or general elective courses. Tip: Busa 201 or Math 141 are possible choices. 4

Mathematics majors are pre-scheduled for 11 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 7 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Comp 141; Math 161, Math 162, or Math 261. (Calc II or III are dependent on AP/CLEP, transfer course scores). Mathematics majors typically fill the remaining 5-6 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) and major-required, general education or general elective courses. Mathematics Sec. Ed majors are pre-scheduled for 11 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 7 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Hist 204 or Educ 202; and Math 161, Math 162, or Math 261. (Calc II or III are dependent on AP/CLEP, transfer course scores). Mathematics Sec. Ed majors typically fill the remaining 5-6 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) and major-required, general education or general elective courses. Mathematics with Concentration in Actuarial Science majors are pre-scheduled for 14 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 10 credits of major-required courses). Actuarial Science majors typically fill the remaining 2-3 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed) and major-required, general education or general elective courses. Psychology (BA & BS) majors are pre-scheduled for 7 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 3 credits of major-required course). The major-required course is Psyc 101. Psychology majors typically fill the remaining 9-10 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed), general education or general elective courses. Tip: Sociology courses are popular with Psychology majors. BA majors may request Scic 202 with lab or Biol 101 with lab in their freshman year. BS majors may request Biol 101 with lab in their freshman year. Sociology majors pre-scheduled for 10 credits (3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111, plus 6 credits of major-required courses). Major-required courses include: Soci 101 plus another 3 credit sociology course. Sociology majors typically fill the remaining 6-7 credits of their schedule with a language (if needed), general education or general elective courses. Spanish majors are pre-scheduled for 3 credits of Huma 102 or Writ 101, 1 credit of Phye 101 or 111.
