Disk Recovery on a MAXPRO NVR XE Application Note This document explains how to do a disk (image) recovery on a 16 Channel or an 8 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE unit. The procedure installs the factory image on the MAXPRO NVR XE unit. Note The NVR license file is placed on the desktop in a folder titled License File Backup to USB. Copy it onto a USB flash drive as you will need it to re-install the license after you perform the disk recovery. If the license file is not available, see Requesting a Copy of the User License on page 7. CAUTION All configuration data and video will be lost in this process. Do not perform a disk recovery unless you have exhausted all other options to restore the unit or are instructed to do so by Honeywell Technical Support. Depending on your MAXPRO NVR XE unit, there may be one or two recovery disks included in the kit. Performing a Disk Recovery Except where indicated, this procedure applies to both the 16 Channel and the 8 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE units. 1. With the MAXPRO NVR XE unit powered up, remove any flash drive from the USB port, then insert Recovery Disk 1 into the CD-ROM drive. 16 Channel NVR 8 Channel NVR 2. Restart the unit, then press F12 several times while you see the BIOS progress bar until the One time boot menu displays. Restart the unit, then go to step 4. 3. Select Onboard or USB CD-ROM drive, then press Enter to boot from the recovery DVD. Document 800-09632V1 Rev A 05/2012

You do not have to do anything at this point. 6. If you are prompted, insert Recovery Disk 2, then select OK and press Enter 7. If you are prompted, re-insert Recovery Disk 1, then select OK and press Enter. www.honeywellvideo.com

3 8. When the lost data warning message displays (similar to Figure 2), select Yes, then press Enter to continue. Figure 2 Data Loss Warning Message 9. The recovery process begins. This may take a few minutes. A progress bar shows the status. Figure 3 Restoring Image Progress. 10. If prompted, re-insert Recovery Disk 2, then click OK. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

4 Disk Recovery on a MAXPRO NVR XE App Note 11. When the message Restore completed successfully displays, remove the Recovery Disk, then click OK. 12. The message The system will now restart to allow the OS to acknowledge the change displays. Click OK to restart the system. 13. Allow Windows setup to run. 14. After the computer restarts, log on to Windows. The default Windows Administrator user name and password are: Username: Administrator Password: Password1 If the Windows login screen does not appear, you must enable it as follows: a. Access the Run command by pressing the Windows logo key + R. b. In the Run command field, type control userpasswords2. www.honeywellvideo.com

5 c. Select the option Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. d. Click OK. 15. Do not run the Wizard. When the Wizard starts, close it by clicking X in the upper right corner. Prior to running the Wizard, the storage drives must be configured (see Appendix: Solutions on page 15). 16. If the Windows message You must restart your computer to apply these changes displays: a. Press Restart Now. b. Login as before. c. Shut down the Wizard (see step 15). 17. Configure Windows Update as follows: a. Go to Start Control Panel Systems and Security Windows Update Change Settings. b. Set Important Updates to Check for updates but let me chose whether to download and install them. c. Click OK, then close the Windows Update window. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

6 Disk Recovery on a MAXPRO NVR XE App Note Configuring the Hard Drives and CD/DVD Drive The MAXPRO NVR XE unit is equipped with one DVD drive and one or two hard drives, depending on the model. During the disk recovery, the first hard drive, Disk 0, is automatically configured with two partitions. Disk 1, if equipped, will not change. After re-imaging, you may need to reset the hard drive letters to the proper letter. 1. Click Start, right click Computer, then click Manage. 2. Click Disk Management. At the end of this procedure, the hard drives and DVD drive letters assigned should be the same as shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 Disk Management Screen www.honeywellvideo.com 3. DVD RW Drive (E: or F:): The DVD drive should be (E:) if there is one hard drive or (F:) if there are two hard drives. If it is necessary to change the drive letter: a. Right click CD-ROM 0. b. Click Change Drive Letter and Path. c. Click Change. d. Select E: or F: as required, then click OK. e. When the warning message displays, click YES. 4. VideoStorage1 (D) and VideoStorage2 (E) (if equipped): If VideoStorage2 is assigned (D) then it will have to be temporarily assigned an unused drive letter (example G) and then the drives will have to be re-assigned drive letters D and E as follows: a. Right click VideoStorage2. b. Click Change Drive Letter and Path.

7 c. Click Change. d. Select G, then click OK. e. When the warning message displays, click YES. f. Right click VideoStorage1. g. Click Change Drive Letter and Path. h. Click Change. i. Select D, then click OK. j. When the warning message displays, click YES. k. Right click VideoStorage2. l. Click Change Drive Letter and Path. m. Click Change. n. Select E, then click OK. o. When the warning message displays, click YES. 5. Verify that the drives are configured as shown in Figure 4, then close the Disk Management screen. Reinstalling the User License The MAXPRO NVR XE unit ships complete with a user license installed. This will be either an 8-channel license for the 8 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE or a 16-channel license for the 16 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE. After an image recovery, you must re-install the license. If you have previously copied the license file to a USB flash drive, go to Installing the User License. If it is not available, go to Requesting a Copy of the User License. Requesting a Copy of the User License To request a copy of your user license from Honeywell Technical Support: 1. Make a note of the unit serial number located on the side or top of the unit, depending on how you have the unit mounted. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

Contact Honeywell Technical Support at 1.800.796.CCTV (2288) to obtain the license file. 3. Copy the license file to a USB flash drive. Installing the User License To install the license in the MAXPRO NVR software: 1. Launch MAXPRO NVR if not already running. 2. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on the NVR unit. 16 Channel NVR: front of the unit 8 Channel NVR: rear of the unit 3. In the upper right corner of the main MAXPRO NVR screen, click ADMINISTRATOR, then click About. 4. On the About dialog, click License. 5. Click the Install License symbol ( ) in the upper left of the License Management Console (see Figure 6). www.honeywellvideo.com

Click Browse to locate the license file on the USB memory stick or MAXPRO NVR XE folder. 8. Select the license, click Open, then click Next. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

Review the information on the System Configuration Changes window, then click Next. 11. On the Confirm Your New License window, click Next. www.honeywellvideo.com

11 12. On the New License Configuration Wizard dialog, click OK. 13. The License Management Console displays a License Installed message at the bottom. Click License Information and verify: License Status: Authorized License Type: Permanent 14. On the License Management Console, click General Features and verify: Maximum supported cameras: 8 for an 8 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE or 16 for a 16 Channel MAXPRO NVR XE Maximum supported clients: 5 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

Click to exit the License Management Console. Note An 8 Channel MAXPRO XE NVR shows 8 licensed channels. 16. You are returned to the About screen. Click Close. 13 17. Temporarily minimize the NVR window and create a folder on the Desktop entitled License File - Backup to USB, then save a copy of the license file in the folder. Setting the Storage Drives After you perform a disk recovery and re-install the license, please confirm that the storage drives are correctly selected. 1. Launch MAXPRO NVR if not already running. 2. 14 Disk Recovery on a MAXPRO NVR XE App Note 3. In the Select for Storage section, verify: Drive(s) D and E (if equipped) are configured and selected (check mark). These drives are reserved for video storage. Drive C: Must not be selected (no check mark). Do not record video on C: drive as this is reserved for the operating system. 4. If Drive E is equipped but is not listed on the Configurator Disk screen, add it as follows: a. Click Add Drive. b. Change Drive Name to E:\. c. Change Drive Name to Fixed. d. Set Storage Path to E:\RecordedClips. e. Select (check mark) Select for Storage. 5. Click Save if any changes have been made. Installing Updates and Patches After you have completed the disk recovery, please check for software updates and patches. 1. Check the recovery image version on the About screen (see Figure 9). 2. Check for, and if necessary, download the most current software version on the Honeywell Download Centre at http://www.honeywellsystems.com/support/download-center/index.html. 3. Re-install any software patches that are applicable to the most current software version. www.honeywellvideo.com

15 Appendix: Solutions No Video on Camera Web Client In the event you do not see video on the camera web client, perform the following task. 1. Add an Inbound Rule for Internet Explorer in the Windows Firewall: 2. Go to Start Control Panel Systems and Security Windows Firewall.On the Advanced Settings tab, select Inbound Rules and then New Rule. 3. On the Rule Type dialog, select Program, then click Next. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012

17 6. On the Profile dialog, select Domain, Private, and Public. Click Next. 7. On the Name dialog, type Internet Explorer. If desired, provide a description, then click Finish. 8. Reboot your PC to have the settings take effect. 800-09632V1 - A - 05/2012
