SALEM FIRST CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS CHURCH CUSTODIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION Ability to take direction and instruction from supervisors. Report to work on time. Have transportation to and from work. Possess a general knowledge of basic electric and plumbing skills. Some squatting, kneeling involved and able to lift 100 pounds. Pass a state background check as required by our Day Care licensing as well as one required by our Child Protection Policy. Able to communicate with a Christlike heart and be willing to see one s work as a ministry and service to the local church and God. Able to deal with heights and ladders. Keep a daily time sheet. Keep a daily work log of jobs completed. It is important that we as a church give a good visual impression when both guests and our regular church attenders come to our services. A. Duties: 1. Vacuum all carpeted areas daily. Exception: Sanctuary prior to Sunday Services. It is also important that the following duties and responsibilities be carried out to the best of one s ability. 2. Empty all wastebaskets daily. 3. Clean restrooms: a. Sweep and mop floors b. Clean sinks and stools c. See that soap, towel and tissue dispensers are filled. 4. Clean all windows and door glass once a week. (Entrances, halls, sanctuary, offices, and classrooms.) (Day Care entrance door and classroom door glass twice a week. Check to see if needed more often.) Check for cobwebs. 5. Dust all windowsills, base-heat units, sanctuary furniture, classrooms, offices, and library once a week. Wash tables if needed. (Do not use furniture polish on organ or piano.) Check for cobwebs on sanctuary lights. 7. Pick up classrooms and halls. Dust furniture and floors prior to Wednesday and Sunday Services. Sweep and mop floors when necessary. 6. Clean drinking fountains, clear hymnal racks of all trash, old bulletins, and papers.
8. Keep storage closet s custodial room neat and clean. A clear path to panels is required. 9. After Sunday services, spot-clean nursery and pick up trash. 10. Cleaning in the day care area may start Monday-Friday beginning at 5:30 pm in unoccupied rooms. 11. The custodian shall be available to help the day care staff when needed. i.e. help teachers and aides. Example: 1) Clean up after a child is ill. 2) Stools overflow. 12. Keep all custodial closets clean and neat: Mops hung up, pails emptied, a clear path into the closet. 13. Clean the front office daily. Vacuuming and emptying of trash daily and dusting weekly. 1. Change lightbulbs when necessary. MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES 2. Wipe cold and warm air return registers at least once a week. 3. Wipe handprints from walls weekly. (halls, classrooms, etc.) When needed, wipe restroom stalls of stains. 4. Set up for Sunday School/Midweek classes as required. 5. Secure entire church facility (interior and exterior doors). 6. There may be a few times that you are asked to adjust your work schedule per church activities. 7. Clean all sidewalks and entrances of snow and ice. 8. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. B. Accountability: The church custodian is an employee of the church, hired by the church board upon recommendation of the pastoral office. The supervision of the custodian is jointly held by the facility manager, the Executive Pastor, and the Senior Pastor. C. Pay: Starting pay is $ 9.50 an hour with increases based upon performance. You will be paid monthly on the last business day of every month.
