CAREER PROGRAMS MTC offers more than 100 careerfocused programs of study in the areas of Business and Public Service, Engineering Technologies and Engineering Transfer, Health Sciences, Industrial Technologies, Information Systems Technology, and Nursing. TRANSFER OPPORTUNITIES With careful planning, MTC s two-year Associate in Arts or Associate in Science can enable a student to enter four-year colleges and universities as a junior prepared to complete work toward a bachelor s degree in a number of majors. Colleges and universities throughout the nation accept transfer credit from MTC. See What Courses Transfer The South Carolina Transfer and Articulation Center (SC TRAC) is a helpful resource that lists course equivalencies among colleges and universities throughout the state. Search online sctrac.org. Bridge Programs Midlands Technical College offers Bridge Programs that provide enhanced opportunities for transfer to selected four-year colleges and universities. Currently, Bridge Programs exist between MTC and Benedict College, Claflin University, College of Charleston, Columbia College, Lander University, Newberry College, and the University of South Carolina. ENROLLING AT MTC 1 How to Apply 4 Financial Aid and Scholarships Complete the Admissions Application at midlandstech.edu/apply. Take the MTC Placement Assessment. Submit high school transcript or GED. Submit qualifying ACT, SAT, and/or previous college transcript. Submit proof of lawful presence in the United States. (For information, visit midlandstech.edu/citizenship.) A wide variety of tuition assistance programs are available at MTC, including Pell Grants, State Need-Based Grants, SC LIFE Scholarships, Lottery Tuition Assistance Grants, SEOG, Stafford Loans, MTC Foundation scholarships and Federal Work Study. Be sure to add MTC s school code, 003993. 2 Admissions Requirements 5 Orientation All applicants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent or must be at least 18 years old to be considered for admission into curriculum programs and courses offered by the college. Graduates of South Carolina high schools who have received a certificate, not a diploma, are strongly urged to return to their high school district to complete the diploma or GED. Certificate recipients who meet minimum scores on the college s placement exam will be admitted to the college. All applicants are required to participate in placement testing; see below for more information. 3 Placement Testing All applicants are required to participate in placement testing (assessment) prior to being accepted by the college, unless the student has college-level math and English with a grade of a C or higher. View test schedules at midlandstech.edu/compass. At Orientation, students will get acquainted with the outstanding services and resources MTC offers. Information regarding signup will be sent to the student s MTC email account after he or she applies to MTC. Orientation is required for all first-time college students. midlandstech.edu/new 6 Earn College Credit While in High School MTC s Early College and Dual Enrollment programs provide high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to get a head start on their college educations before graduating from high school. Both programs allow students to earn credits that may be applied toward high school and college graduation and can be transferred to other colleges and universities. With Early College, students who take at least six MTC credit hours (or two classes) a semester may be eligible to receive Lottery Tuition Assistance, which can significantly reduce the amount of tuition they owe. Early College students take courses on one of MTC s campuses. Dual Enrollment is ideal for students who wish to take one to two MTC classes per semester, either on an MTC campus or at their high school. Student Life MTC Student Life brings to campus a well-rounded schedule of college-sponsored lectures, seminars and workshops, as well as performances by local artists, mini-concerts, films and special programs. Student Life also publishes the Pony Express, MTC s online student newspaper, and gives students a voice in college governance through the Student Advisory Board. midlandstech.edu/studentlife Clubs and Organizations MTC offers more than 20 student clubs and organizations, and opportunities to apply for several honors organizations.
