3 SOUTHWEST TECHNOLOGY CENTER 711 West Tamarack Altus, OK THERAPEUTIC PATHWAY Adult Only PROGRAM DESCRIPTION This 12 month Practical Nursing training program, beginning in February each year, will prepare students to work as a highly skilled member of the health care team. Upon successfully writing the licensure exam, students can work under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed physician to provide nursing care to selected patients. CERTIFICATIONS/EMPLOYMENT Students may complete the Level I curriculum and obtain their Certified Nursing Assistant, CNA, certification through the Oklahoma Department of Health. Upon successfully completing the Level II curriculum students may obtain their Advanced Unlicensed Assistant, AUA, through the Board of Nursing. After at least six months of employment as a CNA, students may obtain their Certified Medication Aide, CMA, certification. After successful completion of the practical nursing program, students are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination, NCLEX. Employment opportunities are exceptional throughout the state of Oklahoma. 4 CHANGING LIVES ONE CAREER AT A TIME ATTENDANCE High priority is placed on attendance. Reliability in the work place is the single most valued employee trait in today's job market. The attendance rule will apply to all students enrolled in the PN program. Attendance will be calculated and applied to each nine-week grading period. Students will be required to be in attendance 95% of the time. ASSESSMENT Test: TABE and PSB Cost: $10.00 TABE / $20.00 PSB ENROLLMENT OPTIONS Adult students Only Full-time: 8:00 to 3:00 PROGRAM CALENDAR Length: 12 month program Start Date: February End Date: February CLINICALS All students entering the practical nursing program must meet health and safety requirements. Documentation of all immunizations including Hepatitis B, proof of immunity, and documentation of a current tuberculosis (TB) skin test prior to starting clinical. Clinical facility may require current drug test and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, OSBI, background check. Facility computer training, safety training will also re required. COLLEGE CREDIT Students can receive up to 18 credit hours at WOSC or 30 credit hours at OU. Upon completion of the practical nursing program, students will have to be admitted to the respective college or university in the nursing program in order to finish their degree. Other state universities may offer advanced standing credit upon completion and licensing.
