INSITE 8.0.0 LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Significant changes are coming to our licensing requirements later this year when INSITE 8.0.0 is released. Some highlights of the changes include: Users will be required to connect to the Internet at least once every 90 days to validate the licenses on the machine. Users will be required to connect to the Internet to correct corrupt and backdated licenses. Transfers can be performed from the License Configuration Tool (Internet Connection Required). Users will have to relinquish the tool off the former PC before putting on the new PC. Users will be able to repair invalid PC date and time errors. No need for a password to clear this error. More information and training will be provided as the launch date gets closer. CUMMINS INC. UPDATE MANAGER ISSUE The Cummins Inc. Update Manager timer uses the last selected update source to check for updates. This presents issues when update sources other than Update From Internet is selected. Therefore, users who use Update From CD/DVD or Other sources will no longer be able to get updates from the Internet nor will they get an error prompt describing the issue. This problem is currently under investigation. But for the time being, users will need to manually select the appropriate update source to obtain updates. Reference TSB #130038 3
INSITE SIMULATOR CHANGES To provide better customer support by making the INSITE simulator more responsive and simpler to display, as of INSITE 7.6.2, we will be changing the architecture of the simulator to be a single integrated simulator for all 2007 and newer engines. This change is the first step in implementing highly requested future functionality changes for Diagnostic Tests and Special Features to run in Simulator Mode. This first step will allow the display of all features without having to search for a particular engine to display a desired feature and will be a complete representation of INSITE functionality across all 2007 and newer engine platforms. As of the INSITE 7.6.0 release, the features displayed for a particular product were driven by what is defined in the calibration, not by what INSITE determined should be displayed. This architecture change provided great benefit by allowing a quicker response to requested changes but also meant that our simulator would quickly become out of alignment with the actual engine product. So, to reduce the confusion of users seeing differences in the product on the engine calibration and the simulator, we have gone to a single integrated simulator solution. These advances are the result of our desire to create a better diagnostic tool that exceeds the needs of our users. As always, Cummins requests and welcomes your feedback on this and any other topics of interest via the information at the bottom of the newsletter. 4
TECH TIPS Windows XP Issues Our INSITE Tech support team is receiving help requests related to PCs running Windows XP. To increase the likelihood of INSITE working correctly on Windows XP machines and save time with Tech support, please have the following before calling for support: Windows XP Service Pack 3 All the latest Security and Hot fixes available from Windows Update Please note that Support for Windows XP/Vista is phasing out. Plans to update to Windows 7 or 8 should begin now. INSITE Fails to Launch and Error 10003 When encountered with INSITE 7.6 and greater, our INSITE Tech support team has determined troubleshooting steps to follow prior to calling the help desk. Users should reinstall INSITE, both.net 4 packages (Extended and Client), Access DB 2007 Engine, and VC++2005 SP1 package. Just repairing these packages doesn t always fix the problem. It is highly recommended you uninstall all packages before reinstalling them. Be sure INSITE is the last package you reinstall in this process. All packages stated are available from the Microsoft download site. 5

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) ECM Security Greenhouse Gas - Idle Shutdown and Greenhouse Gas - Vehicle Speed Limiter are two new ECM Security settings designed to allow OEMs to configure engine settings to meet the requirements of the GHG Rules which allows the OEM to claim GHG emissions credits. The OEM will program the features and lock the values with an ECM password. These programmed parameters can only be changed when the password has been provided by the OEM. The Greenhouse Gas ECM passwords are controlled by the OEM, and ECM Password Removal will not function on parameters locked with Greenhouse Gas ECM Security. Fuel Level Sensor 2 Multiplexing This feature allows customers to configure the ECM to accept the Fuel Level Sensor 2 input via the datalink instead of a physical ECM input. Accelerator Brake Override This feature provides the ability to limit the accelerator when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pressed for a period of time. This will allow the operator to move the vehicle to a safe position when conditions such as a stuck accelerator pedal or lever occurs. Battery Power Required Lamp This feature informs the user when it is safe to remove power after key off. This allows all data to be saved to the flash, perform any Key OFF tasks and for the ECM to safely shut down. Once the lamp goes OFF, it indicates it is safe to remove power. Coolant Level Sensor This feature provides the necessary parameters to interface with the Engine Coolant Level Sensor 2. Electric Fuel Lift Pump This feature provides the ability to configure the Electric Fuel Lift Pump. Fuel Level Sensor 2 This feature provides the capability to enable the Fuel Level Sensor 2. 6
