INTRODUCTION This introduction only provides an informal background and the Extreme 40 Class Rules proper begin on the next page. Extreme 40 hulls, hull appendages, rigs and sails are measurement/manufacturing controlled. Extreme 40 hulls, hull appendages and rigs shall only be manufactured by licensed manufacturers. Equipment is required to comply with the Building Specifications as owned by Extreme Sailing Series S.A. Extreme 40 sails shall only be produced by North Sails in the class rules referred to as licenced manufacturers. Equipment is required to comply with the Building Specifications as owned by Extreme Sailing Series S.A. Extreme 40 hulls, hull appendages, rigs and sails may, after having left the manufacturer, only be altered to the extent permitted in Section C of the class rules. Rules regulating the use of equipment during a race are contained in Section C of these class rules, in ERS Part I and in the Racing Rules of Sailing. PART I ADMINISTRATION Section A General A.1 LANGUAGE A.1.1 The official language of the class is English and in case of dispute over translation the English text shall prevail. A.1.2 The word shall is mandatory and the word may is permissive. A.1.3 Except where used in headings, when a term is printed in bold the definition in the ERS applies and when a term is printed in italics the definition in the RRS applies. A.2 ABBREVIATIONS A.2.1 ISAF International Sailing Federation MNA ISAF Member National Authority XTEC Extreme 40 Technical Committee CA Class Authority ERS Equipment Rules of Sailing RRS Racing Rules of Sailing OSR Offshore Special Regulations A.3 AUTHORITIES A.3.1 The Class Authority is Extreme Sailing Series S.A. which shall be the only body involved in these rules. A.3.2 Notwithstanding anything contained herein, the CA has the authority to withdraw a certificate and may do so upon the request of the XTEC. A.4 ADMINISTRATION OF THE CLASS A.4.1 The class shall be administered by the CA in all matters concerning these class rules, their application and certification. A.4.2 Each boat shall have a nominated Technical Representative, who shall be responsible for ensuring their contact details held by the CA are kept up to date. A.5 CLASS RULES CHANGES A.5.1 RRS 87 shall apply. A.6 CLASS RULES AMENDMENTS A.6.1 Amendments to these class rules are subject to the approval of the CA and XTEC. A.6.2 The CA may specify amendments to the build specifications. Any notice shall be posted via the class website and via email to each boat s Technical Representative. 3

A.7 CLASS RULES INTERPRETATION A.7.1 Interpretation of these class rules shall be by the XTEC in consultation with the CA. A.8 BOAT CERTIFICATION A.8.1 A certificate shall record the following information: (a) Class (b) Owner/Team details (c) Boat identification including CIN numbers (d) Builder/Manufacturers details by component (e) Date of issue of initial certificate (f) Date of issue of certificate (g) Listing of registered components certification marks (h) Certificate valid date and expiry date (i) Details of the Measurer and Measurement date (Location) A.9 ANNUAL BOAT CERTIFICATION A.9.1 For an annual certificate to be issued to a Boat; (a) Certification control shall be carried out by the XTEC or its representatives who shall complete the appropriate documentation. (b) The documentation and certification fee of 2500 shall be sent to the CA (c) Upon receipt of a satisfactorily completed documentation and certification fee the CA shall issue a certificate. A.10 VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATE A.10.1 A Boat certificate becomes invalid upon: (a) the change to any items recorded on the Boat certificate as required under A.8 (b) the date of expiry, (c) withdrawal by the CA, or (d) the issue of a new certificate. A.11 BOAT RE-CERTIFICATION A.11.1 The CA may issue a certificate to a previously certified Boat: (a) when it is invalidated under A.10.1 (b) after receipt of the certification fee if required. (b) when it is invalidated under A.10.1 (a) or (c), at its discretion, after receipt of the certification fee if required (c) in other cases, by application of the procedure in A.9. A.12 RETENTION OF CERTIFICATION DOCUMENTATION A.12.1 The CA shall: (a) retain the original documentation upon which the current certificate is based. 4

Section B Boat Eligibility For a boat to be eligible for racing, it shall comply with the rules in this section. B.1 CLASS RULES AND CERTIFICATION B.1.1 The boat shall: (a) be in compliance with the class rules. (b) have a valid boat certificate. (c) have valid certification marks as required (d) Certification marks shall remain undamaged, clearly legible and shall not be moved. B.2 CLASS ASSOCIATION MARKINGS B.2.1 Sails shall carry a Class Association Sail Label as supplied by the manufacturer. B.3 CREW REGISTRATION B.3.1 All crew should be registered to a boat via the Organising Authority. B.4 EVENT INSPECTION B.4.1 In the event of a dispute alleging non-compliance with these class rules, where specific dimensions are not stated, the following procedure may be followed; A sample dimension(s) for the disputed item shall be obtained by using the identical measurement technique from 3 boats or items of equipment which are not subject to the dispute. If any of the dimensions obtained from the disputed boat or item of equipment lie outside of the corresponding range of dimensions found on the sample, the matter shall be referred to the XTEC and CA. B.4.2 The CA or XTEC may inspect or measure any boat or its equipment at any time. B.5 COMPONENT RE-WEIGHING B.5.1 The Technical Representative of the boat is responsible for requesting reweighing of components by application to the XTEC. B.5.2 Notwithstanding B.5.1, the XTEC reserve the right to re-weigh any component at any time. 5

PART II REQUIREMENTS AND LIMITATIONS The crew and the boat shall comply with the rules in Part II when racing. In case of conflict Section C shall prevail. The rules in Part II are closed class rules. Certification control and equipment inspection shall be carried out in accordance with the ERS except where varied in this Part. Section C Conditions for Racing C.1 GENERAL C.1.1 RULES (a) RRS 50.4 shall not apply. (b) RRS 42 shall apply as amended below: (i) A boats crew may pump the mainsail repeatedly to release one or more battens. (ii) A boat may be sculled if the sculling does not propel the boat. (c) RRS 43.1(b) shall apply as amended below: (i) A competitors clothing and equipment shall not weigh more than 10.00 kilograms and shall not include clothing worn only below the knee. (d) The ERS Part I Use of Equipment shall apply except that B.7.1 and B.9.1 shall not apply (e) RRS 49.1 shall apply with the amendment that the use of running rigging and standing rigging for the purposes of hiking normally is permitted. (See Appendix J) C.2 CREW C.2.1 LIMITATIONS (a) The crew shall consist of 4 persons except in the case of an all female crew in which case the crew shall consist of a maximum of 5 persons or at the discretion of the race committee as per C.2.1(c). The Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions for an event may amend this rule. (b) No crew member shall be substituted during an event unless agreed with the written permission of the Race Committee. (c) An additional participating or non-participating crew member may be required to be carried whilst racing at the discretion of the Race Committee. C.3 PERSONAL EQUIPMENT C.3.1 MANDATORY (a) The boat shall be equipped with a personal floatation device for each crew member to the minimum standard ISO 12402-5 (CE 50 Newtons). 6

C.3.2 (b) Each crew member shall carry a personal knife at all times whilst racing. It is each crew members responsibility to ensure that any knife carried is adequate to carry out safety functions on board. OPTIONAL (a) Personal equipment is optional. C.4 ADVERTISING C.4.1 LIMITATIONS Advertising shall only be displayed in accordance with the ISAF Advertising Code. (See ISAF Regulation 20) C.5 PORTABLE EQUIPMENT Portable equipment may be obtained from any supplier unless otherwise stated. C.5.1 C.5.2 MANDATORY (a) FOR USE (1) Two portable, waterproof VHF Radios with access to channels as specified in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions for an event. (2) Four safety knives. Two safety knives shall be accessible on top of the trampoline and two safety knives shall be accessible underneath the trampoline. One knife shall be fastened to the aft side of the dolphin striker on the centreline of the boat. (b) NOT FOR USE (1) Two righting lines. These shall be installed at each forward beam/hull intersection on both port and starboard hulls. These shall be made from Dyneema and shall have a minimum length of 7.0m including loops/splicing and a minimum core diameter of 8mm. One end shall be spliced and cow hitched to the outer ends of the forward beam. The free end shall have an opening splice with a minimum 500mm tail bury. The righting line shall be secured along the underside of the front beam and shall be secured such that the free end is located at the opposite side of the boat to which it is attached. OPTIONAL (a) FOR USE (1) Electronic compass, mechanical timing devices or a combination of both provided that information displayed or collected only relates to a boats heading and current or elapsed time respectively. If detachable, shall be excluded from boat weight. (2) Storage bags other than those listed in D.3.1 (3) A maximum of two wind indicators (included in boat weight) (4) Winch handles (supplier optional) and pump handles (excluded from boat weight) (5) A maximum of one spare tiller extension (6) Tools for maintenance or repair of hull fittings 7

C.6 BOAT C.6.1 (b) NOT FOR USE (1) Mobile Telephone MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (a) Unless otherwise permitted by these class rules, any maintenance, replacement, modification or repair of any part of equipment shall require the written approval of the XTEC. (b) Repairs to the boat involving laminate and/or resin, shall not be considered minor and unless otherwise permitted by these class rules shall require the prior written approval of the XTEC. (c) Repairs to the boat or replacement of equipment during an event shall be reported to the XTEC at the first available opportunity at the end of that days racing. (d) For C.6.1(a) (b) and (c), applications and notifications must be provided to the XTEC during an event using the form provided and shall contain all of the requested details. (See Section I) (e) The use of additional cleats, winch override blocks, plastic or stainless steel rings, bobbles, flexible adhesive tape, Velcro or shock cord is optional. If used they shall not; (1) Modify the intended purpose, design or action of any part of the boat. (2) Be used on the hull or hull appendages below the designed waterline. (3) If adding a cleat, it shall only be mounted directly onto an existing surface of the boat. (f) The XTEC may specify building specifications upgrades or modifications. C.6.2 WEIGHT (a) Boat weight shall be calculated as the sum of components when individually weighed. The components used in calculating boat weight may be adjusted at the discretion of the XTEC. (b) The boat weight of a boat registering more than one jib or gennaker shall use the mean average weight of each sail. (c) Event standard weight shall be set by the XTEC. C.6.3 CORRECTOR WEIGHTS (a) Corrector weights shall be calculated as (Event standard weight boat weight) (b) Corrector weights shall be supplied by the CA and shall be standard lead diving weights. (c) Corrector weights shall be equally divided, clearly visible and permanently fastened within 200mm of the front and aft beams. When the corrector weight is an odd number, the division shall be in kilos only with the heavier division being allocated to the front beam. 8

(d) The method of attaching the corrector weights to the boat is optional. The method of attachment used shall allow for corrector weight adjustment if required and shall not be included in the weight of the corrector weights. 9

C.7 PLATFORM C.7.1 C.7.2 MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (a) The hulls and beams may be polished and may be lightly sanded over a localised area provided the shape, profile and weight is not affected or altered. (b) Repairs to minor paint scratches and minor damage to vinyl/hull branding are permitted. (c) Compression tubes may be added inside either front or rear beam. Any added tubes shall be no more than 150mm from the outer ends of the beam. If added, the beam bolts shall pass through the added tube axially and it shall be made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic with a wall thickness of no more than 5mm. (d) The padeye on the centre of the rear beam is optional. If removed, it shall not be replaced with any other fitting. (e) Each cockpit compartment shall have a drainage hole whose diameter is a maximum of 55mm. (f) The drainage hole in the aft bulkhead shall be filled. The aft compartment shall be empty of personal equipment and portable equipment at all times whilst afloat and shall not be ballasted to change the weight distribution of the hull. (g) The winch platform may be modified to suit the winch drum diameter. In order to do so an additional laminate moulding may be applied. Any laminate added shall not alter the original position of the winch. The laminate specification and schedule shall be as obtained from the CA. (h) Maintenance and servicing of deck fittings, mechanical components and hydraulic systems is permitted. Replacement parts shall only be sourced from the CA. (i) Material may be added to the daggerboard slots. Added material shall be permanently fixed within 70mm of the upper and lower edges of the daggerboard slots. (j) Non slip material may be added to the hulls. (k) A cover of unspecified construction or material may be added to the jib sheet block linking the jib sheet to winch to the jib sheet to sail. (l) A device may be added surrounding the base of each traveller and primary winch. Each device shall extend no more than 40mm vertically from deck level, and shall weigh no more than 200g. (m) Lines of maximum diameter and maximum length 6.5m, may be added on each hull, installed between the forward pole bridle tang and the front beam. FITTINGS (a) Inspection hatch covers and drainage plugs shall be kept in place at all times. (b) A rubber bumper may be placed on each end of the mainsheet traveller track. Any fitted bumper shall not be more than 50mm in any direction 10

(c) Additional grip may be added to the hydraulic release valves and selector valves. Any added grip shall be directly attached and shall not enable the system to be remotely operated. (d) Toe straps as supplied by the Class Authority may be fitted. A maximum of 6 may be fitted in total. (e) The pump handle fitting is optional but shall be supplied by the CA. C.8 HULL APPENDAGES C.8.1 C.8.2 C.8.3 MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (a) Refinishing, sanding and polishing of daggerboards and rudders is permitted provided that the overall shape shall not vary from the original master. (b) Two breather holes of a maximum diameter of 2mm are permitted in the top of the daggerboard. Breather holes, if added, shall be securely closed at all times whilst afloat. (c) Additional carbon laminate may be used to reinforce the bond between the upper and lower rudder gudgeons and the rudder case. A maximum of two layers of permitted additional laminate may be used and shall lap no more than 100mm onto the rudder case. LIMITATIONS (a) Daggerboards built prior to 1 st November 2010 are permitted provided that the minimum weight requirement of C.8.3(a) is met. The recorded weight of daggerboards used under this provision shall not be altered without the prior written consent of the XTEC. DAGGERBOARD (a) Weight minimum maximum Daggerboard weight including control lines 26.0kg 28.0kg C.8.4 (b) USE (1) The angle of incidence, attack or rake of a daggerboard shall not be adjusted or altered whilst racing. (2) The top edge of the daggerboard shall not project lower than the top edge of the daggerboard slot. (3) Daggerboards shall be securely fastened to the hull. RUDDER (a) Weight Assembled rudder weight minimum 13.0kg 11

C.9 RIG C.9.1 (b) USE (1) The position and rake of the rudders relative to the hull shall not be altered beyond the existing fine tune limitations. (2) Tiller extensions and their fittings are optional. (3) A permanent non-metalic fender-pad may be used at the forward lower inner edge of each rudder head. Such fender-pad shall be uniform in thickness of not less than 6mm. Any fender-pad shall be clearly discernible from the rudder head. (3) The rudder head and the rudder stock may be shimmed with any removable material to ensure a good fit. Class Rule C.6.1(e)(2) shall apply. (4) An additional hole passing continuously through the rudder blade and rudderstock is permitted. If present a securing pin shall be used through both the rudder blade and rudderstock. The maximum diameter of the hole shall be 9mm. (5) The rudder downhaul system may be modified provided the function from the original supplied specification is not altered. MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (a) The rig may be polished and may be lightly sanded over a localised area provided the shape profile of the rig is not affected or altered. (b) Repairs to minor scratches and minor damage to vinyl/branding is permitted. (c) Additional laminate may be added to the exterior surface of the sleeve section of the mast top section to ensure the connection is secure. (d) A chafing pad may be added to the outer end of the gennaker pole. Any chafing pad shall be of a maximum thickness of 15mm and shall not extend more than 250mm from the gennaker attachment point. (e) Maintenance of standing rigging is permitted provided the original weight, length or function is not altered from the original as supplied by the CA. (f) Replacement of standing rigging does not require prior approval under I.1. provided replacements are sourced via the CA. (g) Replacement of running rigging does not require prior approval under I.1 (h) Tell tales may be added to any part of the rig. (i) Not more than 4 layers of additional carbon laminate may be applied to the boom spar by the mainsail clew strop. The maximum dimension of any added laminate shall not exceed 400mm in any dimension. (j) A single additional control line may be attached to the mast rotation arm. This control line shall not exceed 5m in length. (k) A removable cap or covering may be added to the top of the mast. If fitted it shall not extend more than 20mm along the spar from the top point or project more than 10mm above the top point. 12

C.9.2 MAST (a) USE (1) The mast track may be extended at its lower end but shall not extend lower than the top of the gooseneck fitting. Only an extension of the existing mast track is permitted and all parts shall be as approved by the XTEC. (2) The mast spar sections shall be fully inserted and joined as originally supplied. (3) The rake of the mast spar shall not be altered whilst racing. C.9.3 C.9.4 C.9.5 C.9.6 BOOM (a) USE (1) The access window on the boom spar may be covered with a removable flexible covering. (2) Until 31 st December 2012, either boom spar type may be used. GENNAKER POLE (a) USE (1) The gennaker pole sections shall be fully inserted and joined as originally supplied. (2) The gennaker pole shall be rigged in a longitudinal plane and attached to the centre of the forward beam at its inboard end. The outboard end shall be attached via the bridle rods connected to each hull bow. STANDING RIGGING (a) USE (1) Rope loops replacing the lashings attaching the standing rigging to the mast spar are optional. (2) Flexible adhesive tape or shockcord may be added to the standing rigging or running rigging. RUNNING RIGGING (a) USE (1) Halyards, sheets and control lines shall be rigged in their original and readily operational function. (2) The method of attaching the halyards, outhaul and sheets to the boom, jib, mainsail and gennaker is optional. (3) A device may be added to the gennaker halyard immediately above the swivel. This may not extend more than 150mm in any direction. (4) An additional strop may be added to the gennaker sheet block fixing. Any additional strop shall not be adjustable and shall only be secured to the beam end. (5) The gennaker furling line system may include any number of blocks and/or lines which are optional in their size, positioning and 13

C.10 SAILS attachment method, however they shall be used solely for the purpose of controlling the gennaker furling line. C.10.1 MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR (a) Sails shall not be altered in any way except as permitted by these class rules. (b) Routine maintenance such as minor patches and chafing patches is permitted without prior approval of the XTEC. Minor patches may be repainted or rebranded without prior approval of the XTEC. (c) Fibrefoam battens shall be used in the mainsail batten pockets 2 through to batten pocket 7 and in the leech batten pockets. (d) CTech battens shall be used in the mainsail batten pocket 1. (e) Battens may be shortened to fit its batten pocket. Any shortening of the battens shall only be done at the outer end. (f) Transparent flexible adhesive tape may be added to the battens provided that any tape added does not affect the performance or bend characteristics of the batten. (g) Tell tales may be added to any part of the sails. C.10.2 LIMITATIONS (a) Not more than 1 mainsail, 1 jib, and 1 gennaker shall be carried aboard. (b) Not more than 1 mainsails, 2 jibs, 2 gennakers and 1 storm jib shall be registered to a team per calendar year. Registration details shall be detailed on the certificate. (c) Only sails registered to a team may be used during an event. The Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions may amend this rule. (d) A second mainsail may be registered at the discretion of the CA, provided that not more than one of the mainsails was supplied after 1 st November 2011. If permitted, it shall replace the existing registered sail, which shall not be valid for use by the same boat for the remainder of the calendar year. (e) If a sail is damaged beyond repair, its replacement shall require the XTEC approval before use. The Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions may amend this rule. (f) The battens for each jib shall be Fibrefoam. C.10.3 MAINSAIL (a) USE (1) The sail shall be hoisted on a halyard. The arrangement shall permit hoisting and lowering of the sail whilst afloat. (2) The highest visible point of the sail, projected at 90 to the mast spar, shall not be set above the top point. 14

C.10.4 JIB (a) USE (1) The battens shall be in the batten pockets whilst racing. C.10.5 GENNAKER (a) USE (1) The gennaker furler is permitted to be tied to the pole bridle end cap but shall be removable. 15

J.1 Hiking Normally Hiking normally as referenced in C.1.1(e) is clarified as follows; Running rigging and standing rigging that is part of the Extreme 40 permitted equipment may be used for the purposes of normal hiking. C.1.1(e) does not permit trapezing on the Extreme 40 and it does not allow additional devices or equipment designed specifically for hiking to be used unless permitted by other rules. 25
