Call for Entries Photo: Trail system indowntown Edmonton. Photo by Samuel Oboh 2013 Preamble With its vast and varied landscape, alluring built environment and the bountiful experiences it offers, Alberta is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth. While architecture contributes significantly in shaping the experience, grandeur and beauty of Canada s most westerly prairie province as a world-class travel destination, its value as a tourism asset is not often sufficiently and explicitly acknowledged. It is against this backdrop that the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC Alberta Chapter) is delighted to announce the first annual architectural photo competition - planned to run from September 16, 2013 to February 27, 2014. Objective of the Photo Competition The defining criteria of the RAIC Alberta Chapter Annual Architectural Photo Competition revolves around using creativity, excellence and innovation in capturing experiences to promote high quality built environment and architecture as an essential component in sustaining Alberta as a world-class travel destination. Accordingly, the competition, open to enthusiasts from all works of life, aims to reveal the hidden beauty of architecture in Canada s most westerly prairie province while simultaneously exposing its value as a place-making and tourism asset. Entries will be reviewed by an independent jury and winning entries will be published and developed into a book of post cards (exclusively for the RAIC) for sale and mass distribution. Also, selected entries will be curated for travelling exhibitions in various locations across the country including the prestigious Festival of Architecture (in Winnipeg 2014 and Calgary 2015) and at select international events. CFE-2

Proceeds from the competition will be used to support notfor-profit local initiatives such as the RAIC Alberta Chapter Architecture4kids program in Alberta, RAIC Foundation program supporting students and interns in Alberta, and many more initiatives to help advance the awareness of the rights of the public to better health and access to quality lifestyle through responsible architecture. Scope The photographs entered into the competition may range in focus and scope and should lend itself to interpretations that reveal the hidden beauty of Alberta s built environment and promoting responsible architecture as an essential place-making component for advancing Alberta as a world-class travel destination. The photographic images may include uniquely designed interior or exterior space(s) with identifiable individual or collection of architectural component(s), structure(s) or piece(s) found in rural and / or urban Alberta. The object of focus or subject of the photograph may capture locally, nationally or internationally recognizable architectural icon or landmark in any community in Alberta.
