CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN PSYCHOLOGY (CIP, 25 ECTS) MINOR STUDIES Contents: Contemporary Issues in Psychology (CIP, 25 ECTS) focuses on the contemporary research and clinical practices in the field of psychology. Furthermore, it provides the students information about the current research at the Department of Psychology, University of Jyväskylä (JYU). Students will have an opportunity to participate in lectures given by international researchers, visiting scholars, as well as teachers at the Department. Studies consist of lectures and/or seminars. Contemporary Issues in Psychology (CIP, 25 ECTS) will be delivered in English. Target groups: (a) Foreign students visiting Jyväskylä University (JYU), who are either studying psychology as their major subject at their home university or have completed at least one year of studies in psychology at their home institution, (b) Finnish speaking students who have psychology as their major or minor subject at the University of Jyväskylä and have completed basic studies in psychology and (c) postgraduate students at the University of Jyväskylä. Students have two alternative ways of completing their CIP studies. (1) They can study individual courses depending on their personal interests or needs of their study program. (2) Alternatively, they can choose a minimum of 25 ECTS from CIP courses to form a minor studies entity. Learning outcomes: After completing the CIP studies the students will understand the current trends in different fields of research and practice in psychology, and have basic knowledge of factors affecting psychological well being, cognitive functions, and the nervous system, among others. Contents: The course provides an overview of some current issues in research on development and adjustment at the Department of Psychology. Mode of Study: Lectures by the teachers and researchers of the Department of Psychology, JYU. Learning outcomes: After completing the course the students will understand the complex transactions of individual, social and contextual factors in development and/or understand some current trends in the field of developmental psychology. Contents: Varies from year to year. CIPA120 Current Issues in Biological Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning (2 10 ECTS) Learning outcomes: After completing the course the students will have understanding of specific issues in brain development, anatomy and relationships to cognition, learning and clinical issues. Contents: Contemporary issues in cognitive neuroscience and biological psychology related to cognitive development, learning difficulties, and brain anatomy among others.

CIPA130 Current Issues in Personality and Work Psychology (2 10 ECTS) Learning outcomes: The students will have understanding on current trends in the field of personality psychology. They will also understand how various work and career related events and factors are related to well being from different viewpoints (e.g., employee wellbeing, organizational performance, interventions). Contents: Specific content varies annually depending on current teaching staff and visiting researchers. Mode of Study: Lectures and/or essays, seminars/workshops. Learning outcomes: After completing the course the students will have knowledge of psychological interventions and factors affecting psychological well being. Contents: Current trends in the field of clinical, abnormal and health psychology. Content varies annually depending on current teaching staff and visiting professors. Mode of Study: Lectures and/or essays, seminars. CIPA190 Alternative courses from psychology study program (basic, subject or advanced level) (5 10 ECTS)

CIP for students of the University of Jyväskylä For students of the University of Jyväskylä CIP minor studies comprises of two modules. Module 1 is compulsory. Module 2 consists of courses on the following fields: Biological psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning; Clinical, Abnormal and Health Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Personality and Work Psychology. Courses in module 2 vary annually depending on current teaching staff and visiting professors.
