OenoFlow Dynamic Membrane Microfiltration System for Winemaking CLEAR SOLUTIONS - OENOFLOW
The OenoFlow System In the last years crossflow filtration has established world-wide in the wine industry. It offers the user a wealth of advantages in clarifying and polishing filtration of wine. At Pall Food and Beverage the result of an intensive research and development work, combined with a large experience in dynamic membrane filtration of wine, has a name: OenoFlow. One of the main objectives of the OenoFlow Besides the remarkably high output of the OenoFlow system the development engineers have also directed their particular attention to the preservation of the wine quality. The selection of the plant components and its design allow a gentle wine treatment. Together with the user-friendly mode of operation the OenoFlow system represents a unique tool for the winegrower and the bottler. system is the separation of undesired particles and micro-organisms and a highest possible protection of the wine quality and characteristics whereby the OenoFlow system can be used in all steps of winemaking: directly after fermentation, after cold-stabilization and prior to bottling. OenoFlow technology The most important feature of the OenoFlow filtration system is the removal of visible particles in one working step and the distinct reduction of the filtration index. This is achieved by the use of a hollow fibre microfiltration membrane with its unique, symmetric structure which has especially been developed by Pall for the filtration of wine. Advantages of the OenoFlow system Remarkably high filtrate output, therefore: - very short residence times of the wine within the system (2 3 min) - low energy consumption and cleaning efforts - extremely low increase of oxygen content and temperature Maximum protection of the sensorial characteristics of the wine by selecting high-quality material components Low residual quantities because of high particle concentration in the unfiltrate No pre-treatment of the wine required due to the use of special hollow fibre membranes and filtration technology No filter aids required Characteristics of the OenoFlow system Constant filtrate quality Easy and safe operation with all versions of automation Minimum footprint required for plant installation because all process connections and operating elements are installed on one side With the Crossflow operating principle the solids are retained in the circulation loop during the filtration process. The wine is filtered by passing the membrane, without blocking the membrane prematurely. By the controlled backflush the particles which have accumulated on the membrane surface are detached. This results in a constant filtrate output and long filtration cycles. A very high solids concentration in the concentrate (up to 30 36 %) increases the efficiency by reducing the residual lees and thus the wine loss.
A system for all requirements Due to a customized automation and the variable number of modules the OenoFlow system is suitable to meet the requirements of both, small wine estates as well as of big wineries. controlled automatically, allowing a nearly unattended operation. The more simple, base-automated version (OenoFlow B) is also able to carry out every single process step with the difference, however, that the operator starts the individual programmes, which are then running automatically. The manual version (OenoFlow M) is suitable for wine estates and small wineries. It is also equipped with all Degrees of automation necessary safety devices which are necessary for an unattended operation, however the valves have to be actuated manually. The OenoFlow system can be supplied as manual, base-automated or fully automated unit. The operating sequences and thus the filtrate qualities are identical with all three versions. With the fully automatic type (OenoFlow XL A) the various process sequences are OenoFlow 6 B
OenoFlow M OenoFlow XL type A Manual system Integrated vessel for cleaning agents Closed circuit with retentate bleed back to the unfiltrate tank Easy to operate by means of Siemens OP 3, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Manual valves Automatic cutoff in case of dry-run, overpressure, output decrease, or excess temperature Available with 1 4 modules OenoFlow B Partially automated system Integrated vessel for filtration and cleaning purposes with transfer pump Easy to operate by means of Siemens OP 7, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Automatic concentration in the system Automatic draining Automatic cleaning with temperature control of the cleaning agent Automatic cut-off in case of dry-run, overpressure, excess temperature or lack of compressed air Available with 2 16 modules Output scopes of OenoFlow types M and B The new generation of OenoFlow XL systems will be equipped with the newly developed large-area modules. For the high output range this results in the great advantage that only a small footprint is required, combined with a low hold-up volume. Further characteristics of the OenoFlow XL plants are: Fully automated system Integrated vessel for filtration and cleaning purposes with transfer pump Dynamic Solids Control (DSC) for long filtration cycles at high constant outputs Control system with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and coloured touch screen Freely programmable production cycles consisting of filtration, concentration, draining, cleaning and re-start Freely programmable cleaning steps Batch control with volume recording Automatic test of the filtration membranes Available with 8 30 modules (larger units on request) Output scopes of OenoFlow XL plants Number of modules Average output (L/h)* 4 5,000 7,500 6 7,500 11,000 8 10,000 15,000 10 12,500 18,000 12 15,000 22,000 14 17,500 26,000 Number of modules Average output (L/h)* 2 1,000 1,700 4 2,000 3,500 6 3,000 5,000 8 4,000 6,500 12 6,000 9,500 16 8,000 13,000 OenoFlow HP the system for filtration in the high-pressure range** The OenoFlow HP has been developed especially for processing of sparkling wine. In this unit filtration is running under isobaric conditions on the pressure level of the sparkling wine tanks. As there is the possibility to also use this high-pressure version for still wine filtration, all filtration duties of a sparkling wine cellar from Cuvée *The indicated output figures depend on the type of wine and its pre-treatment. Concerning the concrete system sizing the user will get expert advice from our specialists. through to raw sparkling wine can be covered with one system. **available for OenoFlow B and A
Options for your specific requirements In order to fulfil specific customer demands and to adapt the systems optimally to the individual customer requirements it is possible to select from a variety of equipment options. The most important options are: This also allows blending of wines. Moreover, if combined with the automation of the unit, this device is particularly useful because wine cuvées can be put together and filtered round-the-clock. Quality and Service LCV Every drop counts One aim of the OenoFlow system development was to reduce the residual lees volume and the wine loss. The result was: LCV - Low Concentration Volume = Concentration to lowest possible residual quantities. In units with at least 4 modules this patented option offers the possibility to filter small wine quantities economically, even with a big filter, with the effect to reduce the wine loss to a minimum. When selecting the components of the OenoFlow system the Pall engineers attached great importance to use proven parts of wellknown manufacturers. This ensures an unproblematic spare parts supply world-wide. In addition, a network of experienced service specialists is at your disposal. They ensure an unobjectionable functioning of the system and thus a smooth production process by carrying out inspections, process audits and operator trainings at regular intervals. Tank Management Option (TDS) This option enables the user to program automatic filtration cycles OenoFlow a unique system for your wine and sparkling wine filtration using up to 3 different unfiltrate tanks and 3 different filtrate tanks.
