Business-driven Intelligence as a Service Jedox Cloud High performance analytics and planning in the cloud Whitepaper

Cloud Computing The cloud plays an increasingly important role in our personal lives, as our digital histories are stored from apps and our smart devices. In business, over 65% of companies have at least one cloud application. 88% of these intend to further invest in cloud solutions this year. 1 Gartner forecasts the cloud computing market to exceed 250 billion USD by 2017. 2 Harness the power of the cloud For business, options extend beyond storing data in the cloud. From scalable elastic infrastructure, development platforms, process management and business software applications, the cloud offers hardware-independent productivity. Agility and scalability are crucial factors for decision makers, who respond favorably to zero hardware expenses, zero administration costs, and rapid solution deployment (see fig. 1). This agility and speed has built competitive advantages for cloud pioneers. For example, Salesforce.com has overtaken SAP as market leader in Customer Relationship Management (CRM). And ERPs like Sage and Actindo, once major onsite implementations, are now provided as services through the cloud. Cloud-computing is enabling new business possibilities and disrupting industries as new players can appear rapidly and scale globally without the traditional barriers to entry and upfront capital costs. With the powerful economic and business benefits of migrating data and business processes to the cloud, it is unsurprising that Business Intelligence (BI) is now available in the cloud. Cloud BI unifies two key competitive factors: cloud computing as a cost-saving, fast and agile platform, and BI that provides insight on your data and improves the accuracy and speed of business decisions. Business Intelligence in the cloud Data is becoming part of every product or service. Today, business users are often first to search for new solutions to solve their challenges in data preparation, aggregation, presentation and analysis. IT s role is also changing, as users expect the flexibility of bringing their own devices and use modern apps. Cloud BI users benefit from instant access to BI insight on their data, without needing programming skills. The cloud removes barriers of hardware, setup and administration and the simplicity of the named user per month subscription makes Business Intelligence fast and flexible. For global enterprises, cloud reduces the complexity and cost of scaling datacenters. Critically, for medium-sized firms, cloud BI offers immediate access to the same capabilities traditionally only available to much larger corporations, and frees them from the ongoing cost for in-house IT resources to administer and implement solutions. Cloud BI means you can be agile. The shifting relationship between IT and the business Business Intelligence and analytics typically increases revenues, reduces costs, or strengthens governance, risk and compliance. Traditionally, IT owned highly structured Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence systems and treated the business as a consumer. A problem was, that this traditional IT approach couldn t invest in uncertainty. While corporations need well-structured enterprise-wide performance management processes and master data management, they also need agility and bottom-up innovation from creative and informal business champions who make things happen. With rapid digital disruption across industries, the need to foster information innovation grows. IT must now work in two styles simultaneously managing enterprise architecture and standards, while engaging a much larger business community who can run a more experimental analytical approach with their data. This is self-service. And if a department gets it right, IT can help roll it out across the organization. Just as Finance advises business users on how to most effectively deploy capital, today, IT must support and empower business BI power-users, citizen developers, and analysts on how to best leverage their information assets. Fig. 2. HR dashboard with Jedox: In Excel, web, mobile and cloud Jedox cloud redefines self-service Jedox makes your transition to cloud BI easy. Recognized by Gartner, BARC, Butler Analytics, CeBIT, and Gleanster, Jedox gives you self-service analytics and advanced performance management (PM). You gain scalable, cost-effective, and secure reporting, analysis, and planning capability in the cloud. Traditional BI was never adopted by more than 30% of an enterprise. 3 Complex tools restricted the benefits to professionals who analyzed data, and management who viewed reports and dashboards (known as descriptive analytics). Often, the balance of operational employees, customers, and partners did not have direct access to the insights which would help them make better decisions. One size did not fit all. Today, democratizing data means pervasive BI you may not even know you are using analytics because it works seamlessly in the tools you are already familiar with. Jedox gives you Business-Driven Intelligence. Business users are empowered with robust and intuitive authoring tools to model and deploy BI apps for dashboards, collaboration, and analysis. Jedox provides a consistent platform with functionality for different types of users. Business users get Excel-like fluidity on the web, and live interactive capability inside Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Data Scientists have rich and deep capability to hack and run analysis on their data using R inside Jedox-integrated projects, and seamlessly visualize multidimensional data in business-relevant terms through embedded Apps. And because Jedox is read/write, you can capture any type of input from across your enterprise, to support collaborative decision making. 3 3 Source: Gartner.

Jedox balances decentralized empowerment for business units with enterprise information governance. The zero-footprint web provides a complete management environment to automatically integrate data from practically any source and control user access with easy administration. There is no hardware setup or system confi guration - all you need is a modern web browser with HTML5 capability. And you can use Jedox apps on your smartphone or tablet to directly analyze, plan, and report through Jedox cloud. Infrastructure that grows as you need To handle critical company data, BI solutions require secure cloud infrastructure. For high scalability and accessibility, Jedox cloud is available on multiple global cloud infrastructure providers with customizable data centers across regions (see fi gure 3). Setting up a new Jedox cloud solution takes minutes. Users can safely create separate cloud instances for labs, test, and production. Thanks to fl exible processor scalability, memory, and storage, you can start small and then scale to transform your entire business with global Jedox BI with thousands of users. All data stored in the Jedox cloud is encrypted by default and you can overlay further tokenizing services with full control of the token vault and the encryption keys securing the data. Jedox only collaborates with ISO-certifi ed infrastructure providers, 5 whose data-security and privacy standards are subject to frequent audits. Jedox cloud solutions comply with strict security requirements, giving you the assurance your data is secure, so you can get on with improving business processes. 4 4 Source: Ostrato Hybrid Cloud Management Survey 2014. 5 ISO/IEC 27001:2005; ISO 9001:2008; ISO 27001

Jedox unifi es analytics, traditional Business Intelligence and Performance Management so you no longer need point solutions. The capability is there - you get to decide when and where you use it. Jedox Cloud includes: Data discovery & fl uid visualization Dynamic dashboards KPIs & scorecards OLAP ad-hoc drill-down and drill-through Real-time driver-based planning What-if scenarios and predictive analytics Enterprise budgeting, forecasting and consolidations Mobile BI and multi-dimensional analytics High velocity in-memory performance with Big Data GPU scalability Write-back on any data and workfl ow controls to optimize business processes Fig. 4: With one click, Jedox converts your Excel workbooks into multi-dimensional OLAP data cubes ExcelPLUS in the cloud: Self-service empowerment The biggest barrier to transformational Business Intelligence is complexity. If it s too hard, users won t use it. Jedox gives you award-winning ease of use. Jedox s ExcelPLUS empowers business users to own their BI solution without burdening IT, ExcelPLUS keeps Excel s strengths and eliminate the drawbacks. Powerful and familiar, Jedox s Excel-like interface means you reduce Excel chaos, improve compliance and implement BI solutions quickly and easily using common corporate metadata and business rules, so users collaborate with powerful and secure automation. On-demand scaling Jedox cloud is optimized for scalability and performance. With Jedox s on-demand solution, you can fl exibly add users and new data sources without purchasing and confi guring hardware or installing new servers. Organizations can start rapidly with a small user group to solve departmental challenges today, and then roll out across the enterprise when ready. 5

Short implementations + transparent pricing = high ROI Jedox cloud delivers significantly shorter implementations, require no up-front hardware investment and features a refreshingly transparent license and support model. Onerous license costs by legacy BI providers have traditionally placed hard limits on how widely organizations could extend the benefits of BI. Jedox provides better performance, at a better price. The Jedox pricing model includes infrastructure, such as hardware and memory. Organizations leverage a robust and secure platform while benefiting from a 70% increase in ROI compared to on-premise solutions. 6 Less capital tie-up (OpEx vs. CapEx) CIO s have traditionally struggled to prove the business value of IT. Large capital-intensive BI projects require big upfront cash funding. Cloud BI solves this by distributing costs and connecting costs more directly to business activity. You still own your information assets, but instead of hefty software and hardware assets, Software as a Service (SaaS) means you move towards outcomesbased pricing. The flexibility of Jedox s named user per month subscription provides Jedox cloud users with a transparent and straightforward operational expenditure model that reduces depreciation. BI software as a monthly service reduces initial investment and capital tie-up, and allows for immediate tax reduction. You remove lengthy budget approval barriers so you can deliver benefits quickly and easily. www.jedox Your data securely in the cloud Connecting Jedox to other cloud-based data sources is easy with intuitive predefined connectors for SAP HANA and Salesforce and industry-standard connection methods such as SOAP and JSON. Jedox cloud gives you a flexible hybrid approach where you get to enjoy the advantages of cloud economics today even while core or legacy systems remain on premise or in your own private clouds. Jedox Data Integrator has a rich set of out-of-the-box connectors including classic connectors for standard corporate data sources such as IBM DB2, SAP BW and ERP, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle. Connect to your on-premise systems or own data centers using Jedox Data Integrator, for fast and secure integration between your Jedox cloud instance and your upstream systems. Enterprise management and governance You hold extensive enterprise management capabilities of your own Jedox cloud through your browser, including architecture, system administration, single sign-on, and network management. Users can collaborate in real-time using Jedox apps from any device and connect from the Jedox Office add-ins direct to secure cloud data. BI where you want it. You control the granular data security model and manage users, groups, and roles to empower users to model data and business rules, manage consolidation and reporting hierarchies, create stunning reports and beautiful dashboards, and add new data sources independently. Beyond data discovery, you can assign rights to manage complete business processes like budgeting with workflow, or statistical forecasting with predictive analytics. 6 6 Source: Nucleus Research, 2014 Analytics Market Survey: Overall companies spent 40% less on consulting fees and 25% less on application support personnel.

Advantages for on-premise users Existing Jedox in-premise users who are not yet planning to move fully to cloud can still easily leverage a hybridcloud approach, with the cloud as a temporary test or experimental environment, removing the need for virtual machines, expensive hardware and IT resources for testing and confi guration. Be constantly up-to-date with the newest in analytics Jedox cloud automatically provides updates, so you always work with the latest capabilities. This frees up IT from maintenance effort. Instead, IT can focus on being strategic technology partners to the business, rather than system administrators. Jedox cloud gives IT the answer to meet business user demands for big data, modern apps, and bring-your-own-device, while delivering greater effi ciency. Control your own data, we ll look after the rest Jedox cloud gives you quick, easy and personalized access to Jedox s powerful analytics, discovery and unifi ed BI/PM platform.
