INDIVIDUAL POINTS SERIES RULES 2015 Arizona Mountain Bike Association of Arizona State Championship Rules Welcome to the 2015 Arizona Mountain bike-racing season. The Mountain Bike Association of Arizona (MBAA) follows these rules. The board will make a decision on subjects not specifically addressed in this document. These rules apply to all 2015 MBAA Mountain Bike Points Series events. MBAA reserves the right to revise the MBAA Racing Rules should a situation warrant. Members shall be notified of any revision. It is the responsibility of each entrant to know the rules of the Series. Questions regarding the rules should be emailed to 2015 Competition Director Jon Shouse info@mbaa.net 520-449-4643. 1) GENERAL RULES 1.1 Poor sportsmanship or abuse of race officials or staff will result in ineligibility for a Series championship. 1.2 For individual races, the race official(s), not the MBAA competition director, will settle disputes over rules or results. 1.3 Protest will be handled on site ONLY! If you leave and there is a discrepancy in results you forfeit the right to protest later via any correspondence form know to man/women. It is your responsibility to make sure your name shows up on the results being posted before leaving. 1.4 Cash and prize awards will NOT BE MAILED; you must be present on the podium at the awards ceremony to receive them. 1.5 Protective eyewear must be worn at the start of each race riders not wearing eyewear will be disqualified on the start line. 1.6 No ear pieces may be worn on the course. 1.7 Riders may not trim, write on or otherwise alter the number plate in any way that eliminated the printing or makes it unreadable. Violations of this rule may result in race disqualification. 1.8 When possible, if more than (1) class is in a wave, the top (5) from each class will be called to the start line first. 1st place in each class will be called to the line. Next, 2nd place in class will be called to the line. Next, 3rd place in class will be called to the line. 1.9 When possible at Race One the top five pro/experts from the previous championship series will be called to the start line first. 1.10 The acting MBAA competition director will settle disputes over Series rules or standings. 1.11 For 2015, all volunteer hours and trail maintenance will count towards the team championship title as well as individual titles (reference section 10). 1.12 MBAA series participants are encouraged (but not required) to be MBAA members. 1.13 Ride safe. Ride often. Have fun. (Cat 1 = Expert, Cat 2 = Intermediate, and Cat 3 = Beginner ) *2% error will be allowed in weights 3) POINTS / SCORING Place Points Place Points Place Points 1 25 6 12 11 5 2 22 7 10 12 4 3 19 8 8 13 3 4 16 9 7 14 2 5 14 10 6 15 1 SIERRA VISTA, and HAVASU WILL BE WORTH 1.5x NORMAL POINTS! 3.1 MBAA State Mountain Bike Point Series will be tabulated from beginner through Expert in Cross Country. 3.2 USAC Cat 1 and 2 road racers are encouraged to race either Elite, or Expert class mountain bike race groups. 3.3 Racing age for the series categories is a racer s age as of December 31, 2015. 3.4 Racers must complete at least three (3) races in the same class and category to be eligible for a Series Championship in that class and category. In the event no racer in a class/category completes three races, the Director has the discretion, after all other jerseys have been awarded, to offer a Series jersey to the racer who received the most points in that class/category. 3.5 ONE DROP Your best five (5) results of six (6) events will be counted in determining a racer s championship standing. Information on series events will be posted at mbaa.net. Racers with the highest cumulative point total at the end of the series will be state champions. 3.6 To be eligible to win a series championship title, a rider MUST have completed a minimum of 5hrs of volunteer and/or trail maintenance. 3.7 Jerseys will be awarded to category champions as soon as possible after the season. 3.8 Should an event or events need to be cancelled due to course closure or other reason, the number of top finishes for determining standing may be adjusted. 3.9 For the MBAA State Point Series racers must decide by 3rd race which category they will be racing and stay in that category for the duration of the season. 1 st and 2 nd race points will carry over beginner to intermediate to expert. No other race categories are transferable. 3.10 The category in which you start the point s series is the category in which you compete for each of the races in the points series; however, you may elect to advance one category. Points earned in one category are transferable for only 2 races: 2

a. First race at full points b. Second race at 1/2 points c. Rider advances to the next category. Each rider may earn points in only one category and class at a time. 3.11 Ties in the top-three standings in each class and category will be resolved by comparing points awarded in reverse chronological order. 3.12 Racers must use exactly the same name in each race. 3.13 Any changes to your category, team or anything else must be taken care of at registration. Timing will not be responsible to make changes on the start line. When you or your representative sign your registration form, you are confirming that everything is correct and you will be racing in the category you listed for on the start list. 3.14 Any rider may elect to ride in the next lower age class, but must remain in that class for the duration of the race series. A written statement must be attached to the first race registration form informing Timing/Scoring of this decision. Exception: Juniors are not allowed to do this. 4) UPGRADING 4.1 If you win a State Championship in one of the junior, Beginner or Intermediate classes, then you must advance to the next higher category or junior age group in the next year's MBAA point series regardless of the class size; UNLESS YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE CLASS. Junior Intermediate champions must move to Junior Expert in the next year s series. 4.2 Beginner women must move to Intermediate and Intermediate women must move to Expert whenever she has finished in the top (2) overall at the conclusion of the current race series, State Champions will be automatically moved up for the next season. 4.3 Junior women must move up to the next older age division whenever she has finished in the top (2) overall at the conclusion of the current race series, State Champions will be automatically moved up for the next season. 4.4 EXAMPLE: A 13 year (racing age) old who finishes in the top 2 overall of the State Championship within the 13-14 age division must compete in the 15-18 Junior category for the next Series. 4.5 Beginner men must move to Intermediate and Intermediate men must move to Expert whenever he has finished in the top three in the MBAA Mountain Bike Points Series. State Champions will be automatically moved up for the next season. 4.6 Rock Crusher men: State Champions will be automatically moved up for the next season. They may choose intermediate or expert. 4.7 Junior men must move up to the next older age division whenever he has finished in the top (3) overall at the conclusion of the race series. State Champions will be automatically moved up for the next season. 4.8 EXAMPLE: : A 13 year (racing age) old who finishes in the top 3 overall of the State Championship within the 13-14 age division must compete in the 15-18 Junior category for the next Series 4.9 State Champions will automatically be moved up. If by chance a class only has 1 rider the whole season and that 1 rider is the State Champ they will not be moved up unless the rider chooses to. 4.10 If you have justifiable reasons for remaining in your current category, you may petition the MBAA board. Petitions must be received by MBAA by December 31, 2014. If your petition to remain in a class is granted, it is within the discretion of the Board as to whether you will be eligible to compete for championship points. TEAM POINTS SERIES RULES 2015 Arizona Mountain Bike Association of Arizona State Team Championship Rules Welcome to the 2015 Arizona Mountain bike-racing season. 5) TEAM REQUIREMENTS: 5.1 Teams can be made up of men, women or both; and of any skill or age category. 5.2 There will be 2 team categories for 2015: a. Little Ring = minimum 2 members, maximum of 8 cost $100 b. Big Ring = minimum 9 members, maximum of 30 cost $150 5.3 Team members may not cross over with any other team. 5.4 Teams must have a captain with a valid email address. 5.5 Team Captains will be in charge of submitting the names of racers on their team prior to the second event. 5.6 Volunteer/Trail Maintenance Requirement a. Little Ring MUST complete 20hrs (total) of volunteer/trail maintenance to be eligible to win. b. Big Ring MUST complete 40hrs (total) of volunteer/trail maintenance to be eligible to win. 5.7 Team Captains must attend the Team Meeting scheduled for the day of the second Series event. 6) TEAM REGISTRATION/FEES: 6.1 Team captains may register their team online using MBAA website. 6.2 Team registration is $100 per Little Ring team and $150 per Big Ring team. a. This is a one-time fee to be paid prior to a team being recognized at a point series event. b. Team captains are responsible for paying in full and providing a complete roster by event two. 6.3 Any transactions involving registration, roster modification, trail maintenance documentation, other concerns, or matters of importance should be conducted between the Team Captain and the MBAA Membership Director. Information for contacting the MBAA Membership Director will be posted on the web. 7) TEAM RULES: 7.1 Team member names, must be submitted as part of a complete team roster. Team rosters must be finalized prior to the start of the third MBAA race. 7.2 Once a rider is submitted for a team, they cannot change to another team. 7.3 If a rider is submitted for a team after 3 races, only the races after the submission will count toward the team standings. 7.4 A rider cannot be dropped from the team once they are added. 7.5 Riders added to a team before the third race will have race points they have earned from the previous 2 (two) races count toward team points. 8) TEAM SCORING: Team must complete volunteer/trail maintenance hour requirements to be eligible to win. 8.1 Team standings will be posted on the MBAA site as soon as possible following after event two. 8.2 The Team Event in 2015 will count towards team points. 8.3 Volunteer at events must be documented by volunteer coordinator. 8.4 Trail Maintenance must be documented & verifiable. The MBAA website has a link to log your trail hours for validation. Hours must be complete 2 weeks prior to the final race of the series. 8.5 The overall team standings will be determined by taking the best five results per person per team per race, including the team event. 8.6 The championship trophies (Little and Big) will be awarded to the winning team as soon as possible after the series. 8.7 The trophy must be returned prior to the start of the next season, they ll be cool trophies. 4

9) TEAM EVENT RELAY RULES 9.1 The 2015 MBAA Team Relay Event will be held at McDowell Mountain Regional Park on Saturday March 28, 2015. 9.2 Categories will be as follows - all Relay teams are 4 (four) person. o Male Team must consist of four men of any racing age. o Master Men All four Team members must have a racing age of at least 45 years old. o Junior Men All four Team members can not have a racing age over 18 years old. o Women Team must consist of four women of any racing age. o o Mixed - Team must consist of two men and two women any racing age. Full Monty Team of four must consist of: Junior (1 male or 1 female, racing age no older than 18) Male (1 of any racing age) Master (1 male or 1female, must have a racing age of at least 45 years old) Female (1 of any racing age). The MARC in the Park team point awards system is as follows: Place Points Place Points Place Points 1 50 6 24 11 10 2 44 7 20 12 8 3 38 8 16 13 6 4 32 9 14 14 4 5 28 10 12 15 2 9.3 Each team member must complete at least one (1) lap to qualify for individual points based upon team finish. 9.4 Points will be awarded to the related Big Ring/Little Ring team associated with each registration. 9.5 The team event does NOT count towards individual points. 9.6 Duration of race will be four (4) laps of the course (Pemberton Trail) 9.7 There will be a LeMans style start for this event. 10) VOLUNTEER HOURS/TRAIL MAINTAINENCE: For 2015, all volunteer hours and trail maintenance will count towards the team championship title as well as individual titles. 10.1 To be eligible to win the state championship title a team must complete the minimum amount of trail maintenance and volunteer hours. a. Little Ring MUST complete 25hrs (total) of volunteer/trail maintenance to be eligible to win. b. Big Ring MUST complete 50hrs (total) of volunteer/trail maintenance to be eligible to win. c. Individuals MUST have completed a minimum of 4hrs of volunteer and/or trail maintenance to win. 10.2 It is the responsibility of the team members to ensure the correct recordation of your name, team affiliation, and hours on the official MBAA Volunteer roster at each event. 10.3 All volunteer hours must be completed 7 days prior to the MBAA Series Finals (subject to change based on volunteer needs at the finals). Trail Maintenance & Volunteer Hours 10.4 For trail maintenance and volunteer hours one member hour is defined as one person providing one hour of service for a team. 10.5 Hours may be accumulated by family members, teammates etc. it must be noted at the time of recording hours to whom the hours are being dedicated. 5

10.6 A list of participants and hours worked for volunteer hours must be provided to the Volunteer coordinator on site. 10.7 A list of participants and hours worked for Trail Maintenance hours must be signed by the authorized Trail Maintenance organizer and emailed or provided to the MBAA Trails & Advocacy Director. The MBAA and the event promoter make no express or implied guarantee against damage loss, harm, injury or death to participants, spectators, or others as a result of publication of or compliance with these rules 6
