1 Introduction When an Editor invites the Reviewer to review a manuscript, the reviewer receives an email notification to their external email address. The notification contains information of how a reviewer can accept or decline the review invitation: Or, Accept: When you click this link, you are directed to the Acceptance page which displays a message, thanking you for accepting to review the manuscript. You are then directed to the EVISE login page where you can login with your registered email address and password. Register to accept: When you click this link, you are directed to the Acceptance page which displays a message, thanking you for accepting to review the manuscript. You have the option to register yourself. Hence, you are directed to the Registration page. Once registered, you are directed to the EVISE login page where you can login with your registered email address and password. Decline: When you click on Decline, EVISE is launched and a message is displayed, asking the reason for declining to review the manuscript, where you can provide the reason. 3
2 Receive invitation for review When you receive an invite from the Editor or Journal Staff member to review a manuscript, you have the option to accept or decline the invitation. 2.1 For Unregistered user An Unregistered user can view the invitation sent to his external email address. The email contains the following hyperlinks: Register to accept Decline. Figure 1 Invitation for Unregistered User 4
2.2 For Registered user The Registered user can view the review invitation in the EVISE application or via the email sent to his EVISE registered email address. Figure 2 Invitation for Registered User Click on the Manuscript Title of the My Pending Review Invitations section. The following pop-up will be displayed. Figure 3 Review Invitation 5
3 Respond to an invitation The review process is described as follows: The Editor or the journal office invites the Reviewer. The Reviewer receives the invitation by e-mail. The Reviewer logs on to the site using the username and password or hotlinks provided in the e-mail. After reading the abstract, the Reviewer agrees or declines to review. If the Reviewer agrees, he or she logs on to EVISE; reads the manuscript and submits his review. The Reviewer provides his comments to the Author and Editor, selects a Recommendation, rates the manuscript and submits the review to the journal office. 3.1 For Unregistered user Register to accept An Unregistered user can view the invitation sent to his external email address. The email contains the following hyperlinks: Register to accept Decline. Figure 4 Register to Accept 6
When the Unregistered user clicks the Register to accept hyperlink, the following screen is displayed: Figure 5 - Register to Accept When you click Register hyperlink, you are navigated to the Registration page. Complete registration to gain access to manuscript for review. 7
Decline Invitation If you choose to decline the invitation for manuscript review, click on Decline link. A Decline to Review Manuscript page will be displayed. Provide a reason for declining the manuscript and click Decline to confirm your action. Figure 6 Decline Invitation 8
3.2 For Registered user The Registered user can accept the review invitation from EVISE application. Figure 7 - Accepting Invitation Or, Click on the Accept button. A message is displayed thanking you for accepting the invitation to review manuscript. It will now be moved to the My Review Assignments section of your homepage where you can access the manuscript details and provide your feedback. Click on the Decline button. A Decline to Review Manuscript pop-up will be displayed. Provide a reason for declining the manuscript and click Decline to confirm your action. Figure 8 Declining Review Invitation 9
4 Homepage As a Reviewer, you will be able to access My Reviewer Tasks in your Homepage where you can view the list of all your invitations and progress on accepted reviews. 4.1 My Reviewer Tasks You can perform the following tasks in this page. Accept / Decline your review invitations under My Review Invitations. Start / Resume your reviews under My In-Progress Review Assignments. Access your completed reviews by clicking on here hyperlink of Click here to view your completed reviews. Note: The color codes on the Review Due Date label indicates the urgency of your action i.e. Red color indicating past due date and green indicating due date awaited. Figure 9 My Reviewer Tasks 10
4.2 My Editor Tasks You will be able to access this tab only when you are handling an Editor role. Figure 10 My Editor Tasks My Editor Tasks tab displays the following details: Actions Where you can, Select accept / reject / request a revision on the submission. Reject the Submission and Offer Transfer Send the manuscript back to the Author for correction. Withdraw / Remove the submission. Manage Flags and Assign the submission to an Editor. Un-assign an Editor from the Submission. Manuscript Number* - Unique Manuscript Number Revision Revision status of the submission (Original / Revised) Manuscript Title* - Given Manuscript Title Submission PDF Link to download the PDF Corresponding Author* - Corresponding Author for the Submission Assigned To* - Assigned Editor Days at Status* - Number of days present in the current status Initial Submission Date Date of Manuscript Submission Target Decision Date Expected Decision date Days to complete task* - Number of days pending to complete the task Reviews Completed* - Number of Reviews completed Region of Origin* - Region of Origin of the submission Section / Category* - Category of the Submission * Indicates that the editor can apply additional filters to view submission 11
4.3 My Author Tasks You can perform the following tasks in this page. Start a new submission by clicking on Start New Submission button. View your incomplete submissions under My Incomplete Submissions along with its Article type, Version and Initial Submission date. Click Resume to continue the submission. View your submissions pending with the journal under My Submissions with Journal which can be accessed by clicking on the Submission Name. Access your submissions with final decision by clicking on here hyperlink of click here to view your submission with a final decision. 5 My Reviewer Overview You will be able to access this tab only when you handle a Reviewer role. The My Reviewer Overview page displays a table of data about each manuscript which contains the following columns: Actions To Send Reminder, Un-invite and Change Due Date. Reviewer Name* - Name of the Reviewer E-mail Address* Email address of the Reviewer Manuscript Number * - Unique Manuscript Number Manuscript Title * - Given Manuscript Title Reviewer Rating* - Rating of the Reviewer Date Invited Date when the Reviewer was invited Status* - Current Review Status of the Submission Days at status* - Number of days present in the current status Due date - Number of days pending to complete the task Reminders sent* - number of Reminders sent. The Status tab displays the review status. For Example: Invited, Uninvited or Completed. Figure 12 Review Status page Note: If the Editor is part of the Regular and Special Issue, he will have the Issue Option in the drop-down list. 6 Access to Scopus As a reviewer, you are provided with 30 days of free access to SCOPUS when you accept a review invitation in EVISE. If you accept another invite, the access period will be extended by another 30 days from the expiry of the current access period. If you get uninvited or decline a previously accepted review, the access to Scopus will be reduced by 30 days. 13
7 Manuscript Overview Page The Manuscript Overview page consists of key identifying information about the manuscript, including: Manuscript number, version number and article type. Manuscript Title. Manuscript Status information. In the middle of the Overview page is a link to view the manuscript PDF, as well as details of co-authors (if available), the Abstract, Keywords, Highlights (if available), Additional Information and References. The Manuscript Overview page displays the following tabs along with the above details: Overview Files Messages History 7.1 Overview The Overview section displays details like the journal manager and editor s name to which the manuscript is assigned and the date of manuscript submission along with its information provided by Author such as: Other Authors Abstract Keywords Highlights References Figure 13 - Overview 14
7.2 Review Form You will be able to opt-in and opt-out from sharing your reports and identities of an accepted review invitation while submitting your recommendations to the receiver journal. 7.2.1 Reviewer Comments In this section, you can give comments to the author and the editor. The comments that you give for editor cannot be viewed by the author. You can add more supporting documents (if any) for your review You are also provided with the Article Transfer options where you can choose to show or hide your identity when your manuscript is transferred to another journal. Figure 14 Reviewer Comments Note: More guidelines can be viewed through the Guide for Reviewer and How to submit your review links provided in the Review form. Click Upload Files link and select the relevant file from your local drive. After selection, the files are displayed in the Upload Files section. You can upload multiple supporting documents for a manuscript. You can provide the overall recommendation by selecting the appropriate recommendation term from the drop-down list. 15
Figure 15 Upload Files 7.2.2 Annotations This tab allows you to give annotations for the manuscript and save it. The annotation is a pre-defined template for which you can make the required changes. It is displayed on topright of the screen in Annotations section. Figure 16 - Annotations 16
7.3 Files The Files tab displays the list of supporting documents which have been uploaded for the selected manuscript by the Author or Editorial staff. You can also download the uploaded files. 7.4 Messages Figure 16 Files Overview The Messages tab displays all the communication that has taken place for the selected manuscript between you and the Editorial staff. Click on the Subject field to view more details about the communication pertaining to a particular submission. Figure 17 - Messages Overview 17
7.5 Compose New Message The Compose New Message section allows you send a message to the Editorial staff regarding the manuscript. Click Compose New Message. The Compose New Message screen is displayed, where you can enter your message to the Editorial staff and provide details about the manuscript. 7.6 History Figure 18 Compose New Message In this section, you can view the submission details such as Revision, Status and so on. 7.7 View PDF The View PDF displays consolidated manuscript files submitted by Author during submission / revision / resubmission process. Save the uploaded file by right-click on View PDF link to save the file. 7.8 Download Zip file Figure 20 View PDF The Download Zip functionality allows you to download the manuscript file and additional files, if any, in a.zip format. 8 Reports As a Reviewer, you can access the overview reports of your relative journal via Reviewer History section of your Reports page. You are requested to select the criteria based on which you will be presented with the History report which contains the below details: Submissions Reviewed Accept recommendations by given reviewer Reject recommendations by given reviewer Revise recommendations by given reviewer Days review Submission rating Accept review invitation Reject review invitation Figure 22 Reviewer Historical Report 20
9 User Profile You could access your User profile to modify your profile information by clicking on your Name displayed in the top-right corner of your EVISE screen. 9.1 General Information This section holds your contact details, job title, address and other account information allowing you to update the same. 9.2 EVISE Specific Information This section holds your account details which are specific to Evise such as email address, institution, department etc. and allows you to update the same. Figure 24 Contact and Other Information You can update the topics by clicking the Edit and Select Topics button consecutively. However you cannot modify the acquired topics. 22

9.3 Change Password This section allows you to change your password. You are required to follow the password policy which is displayed in this section of your User profile. 9.4 Activity History Figure 26 Change Password This section allows you to have an overview the previously submitted manuscripts. 10 Starting Review You can start reviewing a submission of the manuscript using the Start Review button in the Overview tab. This button navigates you to the Review Form. 10.1 Review Form Figure 28 Start Review The Review Form option allows you to provide your comment and upload the review files in the Review Comments tab. You can also provide annotations in the Annotations tab. Please refer to the Review Form section of this Guide to access more details on the same. 10.2 Viewing previously submitted review When you are assigned a revised submission: EVISE checks, if you had provided any feedback / comments for the previous version of submission. If you had provided feedback on the previous version of submission, EVISE displays an Author Response link for viewing the previous review comments and author s response to the review comments. You will be able to view the consolidated feedback and the author s response. As part of the peer review process, you are provided with links to access instructions related to the peer review. You are also provided with the links where you can access the final document. 25
11 Incomplete Review The manuscript review can be resumed from where it was previously saved, using the Resume Review button on the Overview tab. This button navigates you to the Review Form. 12 Submitting Review Figure 29 Resuming Reviews Once you have provided your review feedback, you can go ahead and submit the same to the Editor so that the Editor can view your feedback and make an informed decision on the manuscript. In order to submit your review: Click the Submit Review button. A Send Review? pop-up will appear consisting a preview of your review feedback The preview review screen contains the following: Reviewer provided recommendation term. Responses to Reviewer questionnaire Comments to author and Editor. An overview of the annotations. Response to Article Transfer Suggestion Uploaded files. Note: In order for you to provide more relevant information to the Editor, you will be presented with a set of questions selected by the Journal for the specific Article Type. 26
Figure 30 Submit Review Once you click Ok button, a pop-up will appear indicating that the review has been successfully completed and where the completed review can be found (activity history). If you click on Cancel, you will be taken back to the Reviewer Form screen where you can update/change your review feedback. 27
