Junos Pulse Platforms Guide Introduction Junos Pulse is a dynamic, integrated, and easy-to-use network client that delivers anytime/anywhere connectivity, acceleration, and security. The Junos Pulse Platforms Guide describes the software that has been tested with Junos Pulse for Windows and Junos Pulse for Mac OS X. The Junos Pulse testing environment provides the following types of software qualifications: Qualified Platform The platforms listed as qualified have been systematically tested by the Juniper Networks Quality Assurance department as part of this release. Compatible Platform The platforms listed as compatible have not been systematically tested by our QA department in this release. However, Juniper Networks expects that the Pulse functionality will work based on testing in previous releases and knowledge of the platform. NOTE: Junos Pulse for Windows and Junos Pulse for Mac OS X are different clients with different feature sets. For more information, see the Pulse documentation. Documentation Hardware Requirements All Junos Pulse documentation in HTML and PDF formats is available at juniper.net. Table 1 on page 2 lists the minimum hardware configuration required to support the Junos Pulse (Windows or Mac) client. Table 1: Junos Pulse Hardware Requirements CPU Intel / AMD, 1.8GHz, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor System Memory 2 GB RAM Disk Space : 25 MB Logging: 50 MB Networking 10/100/1000 Wired Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Junos Pulse Server Platform Compatibility Table 2 on page 3 lists the Junos Pulse server platforms that were tested with this release of the Pulse for Windows and the Pulse for Mac OS X clients. 2

Junos Pulse Client Platform and Browser Compatibility Table 2: Junos Pulse Client/Server Compatibility Product Qualified Compatible Junos Pulse Secure Access Service IVE 8.0R1, IVE 7.4R4, IVE 7.3R7 IVE 7.2 Rx, IVE 7.1Rx Junos Pulse Access Control Service C5.0R1, C4.4R4, C4.3R6 C4.2Rx, C4.1Rx SRX Series Services Gateways 12.1R2.9, 11.4R3.7 11.x, 10.x Junos Pulse Application Acceleration Service JWOS 6.2R1.4 JWOS 6.1.R2.1 Previous versions of the Pulse client can be used with the latest release of Pulse server software, but new features that were added after the release of that client will not be available. For example, a Pulse 4.0 client for Windows or Mac supports IVE 7.4 features when connected to an IVE 8.0 server, but that Pulse 4.0 client does not support features that were added in IVE 8.0/Pulse 5.0, such as SAML support. Junos Pulse Client Platform and Browser Compatibility Table 3 on page 3 lists the qualified platforms, and Table 4 on page 4 lists the compatible platforms, for this release of the Junos Pulse client for Windows and Mac OS X. Unless otherwise noted, a major and minor version number (for example, 10.9), means that all revisions (10.9.x) with that major/minor version are supported. When a major, minor, and revision version number is specified (for example, 10.7.3), only that revision and later revisions of that major/minor version are supported. For example, 10.7.3 means that 10.7.3 through 10.7.x are supported, where x is the latest revision available. Junos Pulse Platforms Guide Adaptive Delivery for Juniper Client Applications In cases where ActiveX is disabled or is not available because of platform or privilege limitations, the client application is installed using Java. Adaptive delivery is available for Junos Pulse and for legacy clients (WSAM, Network Connect, Windows Terminal Services, and Secure Meeting). Sun JRE 1.7 or later must be installed on the client system to use adaptive delivery for Juniper client applications. Junos Pulse Deployed as Host Checker Policy You can deploy Junos Pulse as a remediation Host Checker policy. Table 7 on page 6 lists the supported platforms. This Host Checker application is supported only for standalone Junos Pulse Application Acceleration service working in conjunction with pre-7.0 Network Connect clients to provide a transition path for customers using the standalone WX Application Acceleration client (now discontinued). Table 7: Pulse As Host Checker Policy Qualified Compatible SA6500 running 6.5 R2 on Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64 bit Any SA device running 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 7.0, 7.1 or 7.2 on Windows 7 Home, Home Basic, Ultimate Vista SP2 Home Basic, Home, Professional, Ultimate Windows XP SP3 Home, Professional 32 bit SA6500 with IVE version 7.0 R1, 7.1, or 7.2 on Windows 7 Enterprise Junos Pulse Access Methods Junos Pulse supports the following access methods: Pulse NC Access Method (PNC) Layer 3 VPN connection to Pulse Secure Access Service Pulse UAC Access Method (PUAC) Layer 2 (802.1x) connection and Layer 3 connections to Pulse Access Control Service Pulse Firewall Access Method (FWAM) VPN connection to SRX Series Services Gateways (Dynamic VPN) Windows Secure Access Manager (WSAM) Per-application VPN tunneling to Pulse Secure Access Service 6

Nested Tunnel Support There are a vast number of possible combinations of connections and configurations. For example, both Layer 2 (wired and wireless) and Layer 3 connections can be configured either with or without enforcement (Host Checker enforcement of system health and policy compliance). Although an endpoint can have only one active VPN connection to Pulse Secure Active Service, an endpoint can have multiple simultaneous Pulse Access Control Service connections with or without a VPN connection. Table 8 on page 7 lists the configurations that are qualified and compatible. Any combination not mentioned in Table 8 on page 7 is not supported. Pulse Access Control Service IPsec enforcement in Pulse Secure Access Service (TLS) tunnels is supported. Table 8: Access Method Configurations Configuration Description Notes PUAC inside PNC outer tunnel Inner tunnel: Layer 3 IPsec tunnel authenticated through Pulse Access Control Service to ScreenOS or SRX device firewall sending enforcement information. Qualified PUAC + FWAM PUAC enforcement tunnel to one ScreenOS or SRX device running in parallel with FWAM IPsec connection to another SRX device Compatible Nested Tunnel Support Table 9 on page 8 lists the supported tunnel-in-tunnel (nested tunnel) configurations. The configurations are for a Pulse Secure Access Service 8.0 outer tunnel, a Pulse Access Control Service 5.0 inner tunnel, and the Pulse 5.0 client. 7

Client Interoperability Junos Pulse provides all of the services of previous Juniper clients. You can install Pulse on endpoints that have other Juniper clients. Table 10 on page 9 describes Juniper client interoperability. Coexistence means that both products can be installed on the same machine at the same time. However, only 1 product can be active at a time. Coexistence means that both products can be installed and running at the same time. 8
